Cisdem Duplicate Finder for Windows: Reclaim Gigabytes from Duplicate Files and Near-Identical Photos
Every phone backup, camera import and "Copy of" download leaves another set of the same files on your PC. Add a OneDrive folder, a Dropbox account and an external drive full of old backups, and you can have the same vacation photos in four places and the same song in three formats. Windows itself can't tell you which files are copies.
Cisdem Duplicate Finder for Windows can. It compares files by their actual content, not their names, finds duplicates on your drives and in your cloud accounts, spots photos that are merely similar, and lets you clear them out in a few clicks, with the originals kept safe.

Overview
The home screen has two panels. Local File Scan covers the folders and drives on your PC, with quick filters for All Files, Images, Documents, Videos, Music and Folders. Cloud File Scan connects to your OneDrive or Dropbox account and cleans up duplicates online. Below them, a log of recent scans shows how many results each found, how much space they used, and what you deleted.

Under the hood, Cisdem pre-filters files by size and then compares content with fast XXH3 hashing, so a renamed copy is still caught. Similar photos are found with on-device AI models that compare what's actually in the picture. Cisdem says this processing happens entirely on your PC, with nothing uploaded.
Features
Exact duplicates, whatever they're called
Because files are matched on content, "IMG_0141.jpg" and "beach (2).jpg" are recognized as the same photo. Cisdem lists support for formats including JPEG, PNG, HEIC, CR2 and NEF raw files, MP4, MOV, MKV, MP3, M4A, OGG, DOCX, XLSX, PDF, ZIP and RAR, and it finds duplicate folders too. You can scan several locations at once, including across your PC and an external drive, and exclude folders you don't want touched.
Similar photos and a "best shot" pick
Version 5 added an AI engine that finds photos that look alike even when they aren't identical files: burst shots, edited versions, resized or compressed copies, the same photo in another format, and shots of the same scene from different angles or lighting. It also scores photos for technical and aesthetic quality and checks faces, so the AI Smart Selection can suggest which shot to keep. GPU acceleration and caching speed up both first scans and rescans.
Review everything before you delete
The results window opens with an overview of how many duplicates each file type has and how much space they take. Tabs split them into Document, Image, Music, Video, Folder and Other, and three view modes let you see thumbnails, a large preview, or a detailed list with paths, sizes and dates. You can sort, search and filter the groups.
The results window: duplicate groups on the left, a preview of the selected photo, the copies with their paths, sizes and resolutions, sort options, and a summary of selected items and space to be freed.
Automatic selection with rules you control
In each group, Cisdem automatically marks the copies to remove and leaves the original untouched. If you'd rather decide yourself, the selection rules let you pick by file name, newest, oldest, or from a prioritized folder list, for example always deleting the copy in Downloads before the one in Pictures. You can also tick and untick files by hand.
The Duplicate Files settings tab with preset selection rules: do not auto select, by filename, newest, oldest, or by prioritized location.
Three safe ways to remove duplicates
Send duplicates to the Recycle Bin so you can restore them if needed, delete them permanently to free space immediately, or move them to a folder to sort through later. If you have to stop halfway, you can save the scan results and pick up the clean-up next time you open the app.
Benefits
The obvious payoff is disk space, often gigabytes on a PC that's been through a few phones and cameras. Just as valuable is order: one copy of each photo means your library, backups and cloud storage stop growing with clutter.
Cloud scanning matters if you pay for OneDrive or Dropbox space. Clearing duplicates there can keep you under a storage tier without downloading everything first.
And because selection is automatic but fully reviewable, you get speed without the fear of deleting the only copy of something important.
Real-World Uses
- A messy photo library. Years of phone imports into Pictures and OneDrive. Run an Images scan, let similar-photo detection group the burst shots, and keep the highest-scored frame.
- An office documents folder full of attachments saved several times over. A Documents scan with the "oldest" rule clears the extra copies.
- A music collection with the same tracks in iTunes and loose folders. Scan both and remove the copies.
- Before a backup. Scan an external drive and your PC together to avoid backing up the same files twice.
- Dropbox over quota. Connect the account and remove duplicate files online.
Who It's For
Cisdem Duplicate Finder suits home users with big photo and music collections, photographers juggling RAW and JPEG copies, and office workers whose Documents folders have grown out of control. It's built to be safe for non-technical users, thanks to automatic selection and the Recycle Bin option, while the rules and folder priorities give power users control.
Usage Guide
- Install and launch. Run the installer and open Cisdem Duplicate Finder.
- Activate if you've bought it. Click the key icon and enter your license code. Until then, the title bar shows the app as unactivated.
- Add locations. Under Local File Scan, click Add Folder or Drive, or drag folders in, and choose a file type filter. For the cloud, add your OneDrive or Dropbox account.
- Scan. Click Scan Now (or Cloud Scan) and wait for the results.
- Review. Browse the overview and tabs, preview files, and adjust the automatic selection or apply a selection rule.
- Remove. Click Delete and choose Recycle Bin, permanent removal or Move to Folder.
Tips
- Speed up big scans. In Settings, under Similar Images, turn off the similar-images function when you only need exact duplicates.
- Empty the Recycle Bin afterwards. Space is only freed once the deleted duplicates leave the bin.
- Use folder priority to protect your main library, so copies are always taken from Downloads or backup folders first.
What Users Say
Cisdem's product page shows a 4.9 rating from 277 user reviews collected on its site. Ken Ando, JP: "Love it... it is easy to use and very effective. Finds the duplicates and gets rid of them safely while giving you 100% control over the files that you want to delete. Highly recommended." CLM, AU: "I purchased Cisdem Duplicate Finder last year and needed to transfer the software license to a new PC. Cisdem Support was second to none with a response and resolution within minutes."
On Trustpilot, Cisdem scores 4.8 out of 5 from about 300 reviews across its products. These excerpts were read through a summarizer, so treat the wording as close but not guaranteed exact. Sabyasachi Jana, 5 stars, bought this exact license: "I purchased the Cisdem Duplicate Finder for Windows - Lifetime License... Ethan & Joey from Cisdem swiftly attended to my request." For balance, Michael Voge gave 3 stars, writing that the program "has become increasingly difficult to use... the new interface is simply not very user-friendly". He praised its speed but found the redesign, with Cloud File Scan given more prominence and a different folder-selection workflow, harder to navigate than earlier versions.
Comparisons
Lifetime vs. one-year subscription
Cisdem's Windows store offers both. The Lifetime License sold here is a single payment. The One-Year Subscription costs less up front but renews every year. If you expect to keep cleaning up duplicates for more than a couple of years, lifetime is the better deal.
1 PC vs. 2 or 5 PCs
This license covers 1 PC. Cisdem also sells lifetime licenses for 2 and 5 PCs at a lower price per computer, plus bundles with its AppCrypt and ContactsMate apps.
Windows vs. Mac
The Mac edition is a separate product with extra Mac-specific features such as scanning the Photos and Music apps. Buy the version for the computer you'll use.
Editions and Pricing
The license sold here is the Windows Lifetime License for 1 PC at $39.99 USD, a one-time purchase. Cisdem's store also lists a one-year subscription and multi-PC lifetime licenses, and every purchase carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
FAQs
Will it delete my original files?
Automatic selection always leaves one file in each group untouched. You review everything before deleting, and the Recycle Bin option lets you restore anything removed by mistake.
Can I move my license to a new PC?
Customers report Cisdem support transferring a license to a new PC quickly. Contact support with your order details when you switch computers.
Does it work on Windows 7 or 8?
Cisdem lists Windows 10 or later as the requirement for the current version, so older Windows versions aren't supported.
Does it scan Google Drive?
The Windows app's Cloud File Scan connects to OneDrive and Dropbox. For other cloud services, sync their files to a local folder and scan that.
Can I save results and finish later?
Yes. When you close the app, it asks whether to save the scan results, and you can import them next time to continue deleting.
Why hasn't my free space changed after deleting?
If you chose the Recycle Bin option, empty the bin to release the space.

Conclusion
Cisdem Duplicate Finder for Windows does one job well: it finds every copy of your files, wherever they hide, and helps you remove them safely. The content-based matching and new AI similar-photo detection go well beyond what Windows can do on its own, and cloud scanning is a real bonus for OneDrive and Dropbox users.
The redesigned interface won't please everyone, so try the free version to see the results on your own files. If it finds the clutter you suspected, the one-time $39.99 license is an easy way to get your space back.
