Rips 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs to MKV, MP4 and other video and audio formats

Leawo UHD Ripper: Rip 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays to HDR10 MKV or MP4 on Windows

Leawo UHD Ripper is a Windows program that removes AACS 2.0 protection from 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and converts them to HEVC 10-bit HDR10 MP4 or MKV, lossless multi-track MKV, or ordinary MP4, keeping 7.1 surround sound. It costs $44.95 for a 1-year license or $99.95 lifetime. It's for home-theater owners who want their 4K discs on a media server or NAS, and it needs a capable PC and a UHD-friendly Blu-ray drive.

4K discs are the best-looking home video you can buy, but they only play in a 4K player. Ripping them keeps the HDR picture and lossless sound while letting you stream the film to any 4K TV in the house.

What we checked: the installer Leawo's UHD Ripper download page serves (the shared Prof. Media 13 installer, file version 13.0.1.6, 209,171,392 bytes, dated October 10, 2026), the order page prices ($44.95 for 1 year with a 5-day money-back guarantee, $99.95 lifetime with 14 days), and Leawo's UHD Drive Tool page, on October 31, 2026. We didn't rip a 4K disc with it ourselves.

Before you buy: your drive matters most

  • Most UHD drives need older firmware. Leawo says UHD Ripper handles nearly all 4K discs "if your PC is equiped with UHD-compatible drive". Its own UHD Drive Tool page explains that the firmware on many UHD drives blocks third-party ripping software, and that tool ($99.95 a year, sold separately) downgrades it. Leawo lists tested drives such as the LG WH16NS58 (firmware 1.V5 and earlier) and LG BH16NS58 (V1.02 and earlier). Check your drive model and firmware before buying.
  • It needs a modern PC. 4K hardware acceleration needs an Intel Kaby Lake (7th generation) or AMD Ryzen CPU and a GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon 5000-class card. An older PC will be slow.
  • It needs lots of space. Leawo asks for 200 GB of free disk space, and a lossless rip is about the size of the disc's main movie.
  • Personal use only. Leawo's site says its software is for content "that you have lawfully obtained", not for piracy, redistribution or rental-disc copying.

Overview

Leawo UHD Ripper is a module of Leawo Prof. Media 13, the same suite that contains Leawo's Blu-ray and DVD rippers. The home screen shows each module as a tile; UHD Ripper activates 4K disc ripping in the Convert tab.

Ripping works the same way as in Leawo's other rippers: Add UHD/Blu-ray/DVD loads a 4K disc, folder or ISO, you pick an output profile, and Convert starts the job.

Features

Keeps HDR10 and 7.1 audio

Leawo UHD Ripper outputs HEVC 10-bit HDR10 MP4 and MKV, so the high dynamic range survives the rip, and passes 7.1-channel audio through. Its lossless MKV and MP4 outputs copy the video and audio streams without decoding or re-encoding at all, which keeps the disc's quality exactly.

All the audio tracks, subtitles and angles

Leawo UHD Ripper can rip a 4K disc to one multi-track MKV that keeps every audio track, subtitle and camera angle, so a media server can offer them all. You can also choose single tracks to keep files smaller.

4K hardware acceleration

Leawo UHD Ripper uses the graphics card's 4K decoding and encoding to speed up conversion, which is why it asks for a GTX 1050 or Radeon 5000 card and a Kaby Lake or newer CPU. Acceleration is switched on in the Performance settings.

Editor and built-in 4K player

Leawo UHD Ripper's editor trims, crops, adds an image or text watermark, adjusts video effects, merges titles into one file and applies 3D effects, and lets you set codec, bit rate, resolution, frame rate, sample rate and channels. A built-in UHD player previews titles and captures screenshots.

Benefits

  • Reference-quality files. Lossless and HDR10 output keep what you paid for in a 4K disc.
  • No more swapping discs. A NAS full of 4K MKVs plays through Plex, Kodi or a media player on any 4K TV.
  • Protects expensive discs. 4K discs cost more and scratch just as easily.

Real-World Uses

  • A 4K Plex or Kodi library: rip each disc to a lossless multi-track MKV with HDR10 and every audio track.
  • A smaller 4K copy: convert to HEVC 10-bit HDR10 MP4 to save space while keeping HDR.
  • A 1080p copy for a tablet: downscale the same disc to HD MP4 for travel.

Who It's For, and Who Should Skip It

Good fit: home-theater owners with a growing 4K disc collection, a modern Windows PC and a drive they've confirmed (or are willing to downgrade) to read UHD discs with third-party software.

Skip it if:

  • Your discs are regular Blu-rays and DVDs. Leawo Blu-ray Ripper costs the same and its lifetime license also covers DVDs. It doesn't need a special drive or a powerful PC.
  • Your drive isn't UHD-friendly and you don't want to change firmware. The ripper can't read the disc without it.
  • You want a disc-to-disc 4K backup. That's Leawo UHD Copy; Leawo sells UHD Ripper + UHD Copy together for $119.94 lifetime.

Usage Guide

  1. Check the drive: confirm your UHD drive model and firmware against Leawo's supported list; downgrade firmware with UHD Drive Tool if needed.
  2. Install: download and run the Prof. Media installer from Leawo's UHD Ripper download page.
  3. Add the disc: in the Convert tab, click Add UHD/Blu-ray/DVD and choose the disc, folder or ISO.
  4. Pick the output: click Output Profile, then Change, and choose HDR10 MP4/MKV, lossless MKV or another profile.
  5. Convert: click Convert, choose the output folder on a drive with enough space, and start.

Where it falls short

  • The drive hurdle. Most of the setup work is the drive, not the software; a firmware downgrade costs extra through UHD Drive Tool, and changing drive firmware always carries some risk.
  • Cost adds up. One Trustpilot reviewer who paid $229 for the software and $40 for hardware called it "nowhere near worth that". If you only need 4K ripping, buy UHD Ripper alone.
  • Trial limits aren't stated on the UHD Ripper page; the Blu-ray Ripper trial converts the first 5 minutes of each title. Test on your own disc and drive during the trial.
  • Dolby Vision isn't listed. Leawo advertises HDR10 output; it doesn't mention Dolby Vision.

What Users Say

Trustpilot

Leawo's Trustpilot pages showed 4.4 out of 5 from 151 reviews (leawo.org) and 4.3 from 158 reviews (leawo.com) on October 31, 2026. On 4K ripping and Prof. Media:

  • Alexander Robinson (5 stars, September 2026), "Blu-ray Ripper and UHD Ripper": "Blu-ray Ripper and UHD Ripper Work Great."
  • Guido (5 stars, September 2026): "they worked flawlessly both in copying 1:1 physical media and in extracting single video file in .mkv format"
  • Satori Agape-Economo (5 stars, August 2026): "I opted to get the lifetime license as I hate subscriptions."
  • Mand (5 stars, October 2025): "Had problems with several Blueray i couldn't ripp in certain settings."
  • Alix Mccartney (1 star, January 2026, "SCAM! DO NOT BUY"): "At $229 it goes without saying it is nowhere near worth that just for the software let alone the $40 for the hardware."

From Leawo's own product page

Leawo quotes a customer named Jacorb: "Best tool for 4k UHD Blu-ray ripping, I utilize this software to enjoy my 4k Ultra Blu-ray movies on my 4K UHD TV, it works very well." The vendor picks these testimonials.

The pattern: owners with working setups report good 4K rips and helpful support. The negative experiences center on the total cost of software plus hardware and discs that won't load in some settings. Independent, hands-on reviews of UHD Ripper are scarce; most of what's online is published by competing ripper vendors.

Comparisons

UHD Ripper vs Leawo Blu-ray Ripper

Same price ($44.95 a year, $99.95 lifetime). UHD Ripper reads 4K UHD discs and outputs HDR10; Blu-ray Ripper reads regular Blu-rays and DVDs, runs on older PCs with any Blu-ray drive, and its lifetime license includes DVD Ripper. Most people with mixed collections should start with Blu-ray Ripper and add UHD Ripper only for their 4K discs.

UHD Ripper vs Leawo UHD Copy

UHD Copy backs up a 4K disc to a blank disc, folder or ISO; UHD Ripper turns it into a playable video file. Media-server users need the ripper.

FAQs

What Blu-ray drive do I need for Leawo UHD Ripper?

Leawo UHD Ripper needs a UHD-capable drive whose firmware lets third-party software read 4K discs. Leawo's UHD Drive Tool page lists tested models, such as the LG WH16NS58 with firmware 1.V5 or earlier, and the tool downgrades newer firmware on supported drives.

Does Leawo UHD Ripper keep HDR?

Yes, HDR10. Leawo UHD Ripper outputs HEVC 10-bit HDR10 MP4 and MKV and lossless MKV/MP4 that keep the HDR10 picture. Leawo doesn't mention Dolby Vision.

Can Leawo UHD Ripper also rip regular Blu-rays and DVDs?

Ripping regular Blu-rays and DVDs is the job of Leawo Blu-ray Ripper and DVD Ripper, which are separate modules of the same Prof. Media suite. If your collection is mixed, the Prof. Media bundle or Blu-ray Ripper plus UHD Ripper covers it.

Will Leawo UHD Ripper run on an older PC?

It may run, but slowly. Leawo UHD Ripper's 4K hardware acceleration needs an Intel Kaby Lake or AMD Ryzen 1000 CPU or newer, and a GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon 5000-series card or newer, plus 4 GB RAM.

How big is a 4K rip?

A lossless rip from Leawo UHD Ripper is about the size of the disc's main movie, and Leawo asks for 200 GB of free space. HEVC HDR10 MP4 output at a lower bit rate is much smaller.

Is the yearly or lifetime license better?

The lifetime license. Leawo UHD Ripper's lifetime price ($99.95) is about two years of the auto-renewing subscription, and it comes with a 14-day money-back window instead of 5 days.

System Requirements

  • Windows: 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or 11
  • Processor: Intel Kaby Lake series or AMD Ryzen 1000 series or newer
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon 5000 series or newer
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM or more
  • Disk: 200 GB free
  • Other: a UHD-compatible Blu-ray drive and an internet connection

Conclusion

Leawo UHD Ripper is worth it for 4K disc owners who already have, or are ready to set up, a UHD-friendly drive and a modern PC. HDR10 and lossless multi-track output give you files that look and sound like the disc, and the $99.95 lifetime license is reasonable next to the cost of the discs themselves.

The main reason not to buy is the drive: without compatible firmware it can't read your discs, and fixing that costs extra. If your collection is regular Blu-rays and DVDs, Leawo Blu-ray Ripper is the better and cheaper fit. Test your own disc and drive during the trial first.
