Leawo U-NEXT Downloader: Save U-NEXT Movies, Dramas and Anime on Your PC
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader, sold as CleverGet U-NEXT Downloader, is a Windows program that downloads the movies, dramas and anime you can play in your own U-NEXT or H-NEXT account to MP4 or MKV files at up to 1080p, so you can watch them offline in any player. It runs on 64-bit Windows 7 to 11, costs $59.95 for one year or $99.95 for lifetime, and the free trial downloads 3 videos.
U-NEXT is one of the biggest streaming catalogs in Japan, but everything you watch there stays locked inside U-NEXT's player and its app's download feature, needs a Japanese connection, and disappears when a title leaves the catalog or your subscription ends. Leawo U-NEXT Downloader turns a title you're playing into an ordinary video file on your hard drive, which you can copy to a laptop, a USB stick or a media server.

What we checked: the CleverGet Windows installer from Leawo's download link on October 24, 2026 (510 MB, file version 27.0.0.0, rebuilt on October 23, 2026), and the one-year license at $59.95 on the order page on October 24, 2026, with the lifetime option at $40 more and a renewal price of $35.97 after the first year. Leawo's product status page listed U-NEXT as "Working" at 1080p and 720p the same day. We didn't download a U-NEXT video ourselves, since that needs a U-NEXT account and a Japanese connection.
Before you buy
- A Japanese IP address is required. Leawo's user guide says U-NEXT only lets you log in, play and download from a Japanese IP. If U-NEXT won't play on your PC, Leawo U-NEXT Downloader can't download from it either.
- It only saves what your account can play. You sign in with your own U-NEXT account. Titles that cost points or a rental have to be paid for on U-NEXT first.
- 64-bit Windows only. There's no 32-bit build. A Mac needs the separate Mac license.
- The one-year plan renews. The order page sets the one-year license to renew after 12 months, at $35.97 when we checked. Lifetime is a one-time payment.
- Personal use only. Leawo's fair use policy allows downloads of videos you legally own, for your own needs. Sharing downloads or using them for business is forbidden.

Overview
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader isn't a separate program. It's one of several dozen download modules inside CleverGet, Leawo's video downloader, which you install once and activate module by module. CleverGet works like a web browser with a download button: you open U-NEXT in a CleverGet tab, sign in, and start playing the title you want. A blue download icon in the corner then asks CleverGet to read the stream, and a Download window lists every quality U-NEXT offers for that title, with choices for MP4 or MKV, audio track and subtitles.
The module also covers H-NEXT, U-NEXT's adult-content sister site (video.hnext.jp). The same CleverGet window can hold other modules too, such as Japanese services like ABEMA, DMM TV and NHK ONE, or Netflix and Hulu, each bought separately and each with its own 3 free downloads.
A U-NEXT movie playing in a CleverGet tab, with its video.unext.jp play URL pasted into the address bar, the blue download button at the bottom right and the empty Library sidebar on the right (Leawo's user guide, Windows).
Features
You choose the stream, so you choose the file size
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader shows every stream U-NEXT serves for a title, with its resolution, bit rate and file size, before anything is downloaded. Take the 1080p stream for a TV, or a smaller one when a whole drama series has to fit on a laptop. The quality ceiling is whatever U-NEXT streams: Leawo lists U-NEXT at 1080p and 720p on its status page, and older catalog titles can be much lower.
The Download window for a 26-minute U-NEXT episode: three 640 x 480 streams (287 MB, 187 MB and 78 MB) and one 320 x 240 stream, then Output MP4, Audio "HEAAC jp 125kbps", Subtitle and "Remux into file" above the Download button.
Whole seasons from one episode
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader detects the other episodes of a series once you parse one of them, so you can tick a few episodes, the current season or every season and queue them together. It's the difference between parsing 12 anime episodes one at a time and setting up the whole season in one go.
Audio tracks and subtitles kept or picked
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader keeps the original audio and subtitle tracks or just the ones you choose, useful for Hollywood films that U-NEXT carries both dubbed and with Japanese subtitles. With Remux into file ticked, subtitles go inside the video. Untick it and they're saved as separate SRT or SUP files that you can edit, translate or load into a player only when you want them.
GPU acceleration, resume and auto shutdown
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader uses GPU hardware acceleration where your graphics card supports it, picks up interrupted downloads where they stopped, stores the title, length, quality and track details as metadata, and can switch the PC off when the queue is done. From the Library you can open a finished file in Leawo Blu-ray Player or send it to Leawo Prof. Media to burn a DVD or Blu-ray (both separate Leawo products).
After the download: the finished episode appears in the Library's video tab on the right with an Open Folder link, while the U-NEXT page stays open on the left (Leawo's user guide).
Benefits
- Files instead of a rental. U-NEXT's own downloads live inside its app and stop playing when the license or subscription runs out. MP4 and MKV files stay on your drive until you delete them.
- Any player, any screen. The files play in VLC, Windows Media Player, Plex or Kodi, and copy to a phone, tablet or TV that reads MP4.
- Watch abroad without a VPN. Titles downloaded in Japan play anywhere afterwards, since nothing is streamed.
- One app for several services. If you also watch ABEMA or Netflix, the same CleverGet install handles them with their own modules.
Real-World Uses
- Before moving or travelling abroad: download the dramas you're following while you're still in Japan, then finish them where U-NEXT won't load.
- A home media server: save anime seasons as MKV files with their subtitle tracks and add them to Plex or Jellyfin for the whole household.
- Language study: keep a drama's subtitles as an SRT file next to the video to read along, pause and replay lines.
- Before a title leaves: U-NEXT rotates licensed films out of its catalog, and a saved copy keeps playing after it's gone.
Who It's For, and Who Should Skip It
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader is for U-NEXT subscribers in Japan who watch on a Windows PC and want to keep what they watch as normal files, especially people who travel, are about to leave Japan, or run a home media server.
Skip it if you live outside Japan and have no Japanese connection: U-NEXT itself won't play, so there's nothing to download. Skip it too if U-NEXT's own app downloads on your phone are enough for a commute, or if you watch on a Mac (buy the Mac version instead). If you only need two or three films, the free trial may cover you.
Usage Guide
- Install: download the CleverGet installer (about 510 MB), run it and launch CleverGet. The U-NEXT module is built in, so there's nothing else to install.
- Set the output folder: click the three-dot icon, open Settings, and under General set "Save Video To". Tick "Create subfolder for each stream service" if you use several modules, then click Save.
- Sign in to U-NEXT: open U-NEXT in a CleverGet tab and log in with your own account. Leawo's guide says to tick its login options so parsing works.
- Play the title: paste its video.unext.jp URL into the address bar or search for it, and start playback. CleverGet can only parse a video whose playback page is open.
- Download: click the blue download icon at the bottom right, pick the stream, MP4 or MKV, the audio track and subtitles, and click Download. Progress shows in the sidebar, and the file appears in the Library and your output folder when it's done.
- Activate when you buy: click Activate at the top right and paste the registration code from your order email into the Activation Center.
Where it falls short
- One U-NEXT video at a time. Leawo's user guide notes that the U-NEXT module downloads one video at a time, so a queued season runs episode after episode, even though CleverGet's settings allow up to 5 parallel tasks for other sites.
- 1080p only where U-NEXT has it. The episode in Leawo's own guide tops out at 640 x 480. Older series won't come out sharper than U-NEXT streams them.
- A heavy install. The installer is about 510 MB because it carries every CleverGet module, and Leawo asks for 5 GB of free disk space before your videos. The product page's "377 MB" figure is out of date.
- Site changes break it for a while. CleverGet customers on Trustpilot describe modules that stopped working after a streaming site or CleverGet update until Leawo shipped a fix.
- The refund guarantee has conditions. Leawo refunds within 14 days only when a problem is confirmed by both sides after working with support, so test with the free downloads first.
What Users Say
We found no independent hands-on review of the U-NEXT module itself, so this section gathers what is available: Leawo's own testimonials, Trustpilot reviews of CleverGet as a whole, and one independent review of CleverGet.
Testimonials on Leawo's U-NEXT Downloader page
Leawo's product page shows three testimonials about this module. They're the vendor's selection, with no dates or sources, so read them as marketing:
"I was looking for an easy and reliable way to download videos from U-NEXT, and I'm glad I came across CleverGet U-NEXT Downloader. The download speed is impressive and the user interface is simple and intuitive." Mason Jones
"It allows me to easily download my favorite TV series in batch from U-NEXT with just a few clicks." Atlas Clark
"The integration with Leawo Blu-ray Player and Leawo Prof. Media is a fantastic addition." Zayne Perry
Trustpilot: CleverGet, 4.7 from 66 reviews
CleverGet has a TrustScore of 4.7 from 66 reviews on Trustpilot (79% five-star, 6% one-star), 22 of them from the last 12 months. None mention U-NEXT. The reviewers mostly praise reliability and support:
"This is the best video downloader I have encountered so far. It downloads videos from almost all streaming sites." Kamlesh Bhatt, 5 stars, August 2026
"I have been using Cleverget for quite sometime." ... "I found the tech support folks were very good and helpful with getting to the bottom of it." Satori Agape-Economo, 5 stars, August 2026
"They are extremely knowledgeable, responsive, and timely." Pops, 5 stars, July 2026, about the support team
"I did encounter a problem, but the technical team was very responsive and resolved it." Florian, 5 stars, May 2026
The critical side on Trustpilot
Even the positive reviews describe breakage that support had to fix. Farsite KG says "there have been only a few disruptions which were promptly fixed by the company". Alberto gave 4 stars after "The Crunchyroll module stopped downloading subtitles after the last update." Mike reported an HBO problem where the "downloaded video was systematically quite shorter than the original" before a fix arrived.
David Faries gave 4 stars, praising the support but adding: "The only thing I did not enjoy was having to sign up for a 3rd party paid service as a trial to transfer a file."
MobileAppDaily: 4.1 out of 5
Arpit Dubey's review of CleverGet as a whole on MobileAppDaily scores it 4.1 out of 5 (4.5 for performance), finding that "The subtitle management features work well in practice." The same review warns that "some users report output quality occasionally being lower than the advertised original quality."
Its prices are for the all-in-one CleverGet package, not this single module.
The pattern
People like CleverGet's range of supported sites and a support team that answers quickly and ships fixes. The recurring complaint is a module that stops working for a few days after a streaming site changes, and output that's only as good as the stream. With no U-NEXT-specific reviews to go on, the 3 free downloads are the real test: try them on the series you actually watch.
Comparisons
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader vs U-NEXT's own app downloads
U-NEXT's phone and tablet apps download many titles for offline viewing at no extra cost, but the downloads only play in the U-NEXT app, have viewing deadlines, and need your subscription to stay active. Leawo U-NEXT Downloader costs extra and works on a Windows PC, but gives you standard MP4 or MKV files with no deadline. For a commute, U-NEXT's app is enough. For keeping a copy, you need a tool like this.
Windows version vs Mac version
The Windows and Mac versions cost the same and download the same U-NEXT streams. The Windows version needs 64-bit Windows 7 to 11, the Mac version macOS 11 or later. A license works on one computer of its own platform only.
Editions and Pricing

Prices are from the order page on October 24, 2026. The registration code arrives by email right after payment.
FAQs
Does Leawo U-NEXT Downloader work outside Japan?
Only through a Japanese IP address. U-NEXT blocks logins and playback from other countries, and Leawo U-NEXT Downloader can only download what U-NEXT plays in CleverGet's browser.
Can Leawo U-NEXT Downloader download from H-NEXT?
Yes. Leawo U-NEXT Downloader lists video.hnext.jp next to video.unext.jp as a supported site, so the same license covers both.
Do videos downloaded with Leawo U-NEXT Downloader expire?
No. Leawo U-NEXT Downloader saves ordinary MP4 or MKV files that keep playing after your license or U-NEXT subscription ends. An expired license only stops new downloads.
Is the lifetime license of Leawo U-NEXT Downloader worth it?
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader's lifetime license costs $40 more than one year. With renewals at $35.97 a year, it pays for itself early in the second year, so it's the better buy if you'll use it for more than a year.
Can I use one Leawo U-NEXT Downloader license on two PCs?
No. A Leawo U-NEXT Downloader license activates on one computer, and a second PC needs a second license. The Windows license doesn't work on a Mac.
Does Leawo U-NEXT Downloader run on 32-bit Windows?
No. Leawo U-NEXT Downloader needs a 64-bit edition of Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or 11.
What can I do if Leawo U-NEXT Downloader says no video was detected?
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader only parses a video whose playback page is open, so start playing the title first. If it still fails, Leawo's user guide suggests clearing CleverGet's cache under Settings, and you can send a report from the program's Bug Report option.
System Requirements
- Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or 11, 64-bit
- 1 GHz or faster Intel or AMD processor
- 512 MB RAM (1024 MB or more recommended)
- 5 GB or more of free disk space, plus room for your videos
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 or better graphics card
- Internet connection with a Japanese IP address, and a U-NEXT account
Conclusion
Leawo U-NEXT Downloader is worth it if you're a U-NEXT subscriber in Japan with a Windows PC and you want to keep what you watch: it saves the best stream U-NEXT offers as a normal MP4 or MKV file, handles whole seasons, and keeps the subtitle tracks you choose. The main reason not to buy is that it depends entirely on U-NEXT: without a Japanese connection it can't do anything, many older titles stream well under 1080p, and a U-NEXT site change can stop it until Leawo patches it. Use the 3 free downloads on your own titles first, and if you'll keep it beyond a year, take the $99.95 lifetime license.
