Making videos is fun!
And it’s never been so easy!
Watch this step-by-step tutorial to learn
how to make your own video using multiple
video clips with smooth transitions between
scenes, background music, captions, titles,
and even special effects!
Step 1. Open the Movavi Video Editor program
If the software is not already installed on
your computer, click here to download a free
version and follow the tutorial steps.
Step 2.Add your files to the program
Click Add Media Files to choose the videos,
photos, and audio tracks you want to use for your movies.
All the files will be added on the Timeline
board.
Simply drag and drop the video clips, photos,
and audio clips, putting them in the order
that best brings your ideas to life.
Step 3. Сut and trim the video clips
If you need only part of a clip for your project,
simply select it and drag and drop either
the left or right end.
Check the preview window - that will help
you with precise trimming.
When you find the moment at which you want
to trim the clip, release it and the editor
will shift to the next clip automatically,
leaving no blank spaces in your project.
If there is an unwanted scene within a clip,
use the Split tool.
Select the clip, place the red marker at the
moment where you want to split and click the Scissors icon.
Now, trim the two clips as described previously
to delete the unwanted part.
Step 4. Set up smooth transitions
Click the Transitions tab and choose from
the selection of artistic transitions.
Drag the icon with the transition you want
to use to the Timeline and drop it between
two video clips.
Check the result in the preview window.
If needed, you can change the transition duration
– right click on the transition,
choose Transition Properties, and set the desired duration in the pop-up window.
Now, repeat with the other clips, choosing
different transitions if you want.
If you’d like to use the same transition
for all the clips, there’s a shortcut!
On the toolbar, click the Add transitions
to all clips button, choose the style and
duration in the pop-up window and click OK.
The transitions settings will be applied to
all the clips.
Step 5. Add filters and special effects
Click the Filters tab to see the filters and
special effects library.
If you find a filter that will work well for
your project, drag the icon and drop it right
on the desired video clip.
The selected filter will be applied to only
this clip, not the whole video.
If you change your mind, click the star icon
on the video clip, select the effect from
the pop-up menu and click Remove.
Step 6. Add captions and titles
Go to the Titles tab and choose the preset
you like best – there’s everything from
simple titles to artistic captions with backgrounds
and animation.
Drag the icon to the Timeline and drop it
above the video clip.
You can trim the title in the same way as
you did with the video clips.
Double click the new titles clip and enter
the desired text in the preview window.
At this point, you can also rescale and reposition
titles and background, change font, color,
animation speed and other settings.
When you’re finished, click Apply.
Step 7.Set up the background music
Trim the audio the same way you did with the
video clips to make the background music length
the same as the video.
You can have several audio tracks playing
at the same time - for example, to combine
background music, narration and sound effects.
If a video clip has original sound, select
it, click the Tools tab and set the volume
to zero in the General menu - this way, the
original sound will not interfere with the background music.
Alternatively, you can keep the original sound
and lower the volume of the background music.
Step 8. Save your video project
When your video project is complete, click
the Export button.
In the pop-up menu, choose the desired video
format and settings or use a preset with the
optimal settings for your target device or
for sharing online.
