Have you ever wanted to build a really
professional looking website, but the
whole idea of learning code, you know,
HTML and all that stuff, just seemed
like this huge hurdle? Well, today,
we're going to tear that hurdle down.
We're going to take a look at WYSIWYG
Web Builder, a tool that's all about
putting a web developer's power right in
your hands, no coding required. And
that's really the whole idea behind
WYSIWYG. It literally stands for what
you see is what you get. It means that
what you're designing on your screen is
exactly how it's going to look online.
Let's get you set up at your new digital
workbench. This is the main screen, the
first thing you'll see, and it's
basically where all the design magic is
going to happen. This is your canvas.
Instead of writing lines of code, you're
going to be dragging and dropping things
right onto the space, literally watching
your web page come together right before
your eyes. Right at the top of the
screen, you'll see the ribbon. Just
think of this as your command center.
All your tools are neatly organized into
different tabs, but what's really cool
is that it's contextual. So, if you
click on a text box, boom, a whole new
set of text editing tools appears. Click
on an image and you get image tools.
It's super smart and keeps your
workspace nice and clean. Then, over on
the side, you have the toolbox. This is
where you grab all the fundamental
building blocks of your site. Need to
add a paragraph? You grab the text tool.
Want to pop in an image? It's right
there. It even has a search bar if
you're in a hurry to find something
specific. Now, you're going to love this
next one. Let's talk about a huge time
saver, blocks. These are basically
professionally designed pre-made
sections of a website. Think about
needing a photo gallery or a contact
form. Instead of building it all from
scratch, you just find a block you like,
drag it onto your page, and you're done.
And the best part? You can still
customize everything about them.
So, we've been talking about adding
stuff to a single page, but what about
the whole website? Let's zoom out for a
second and look at how you become the
architect of your entire project,
managing the whole structure of your
site.
This right here is the site manager, and
it's basically your website's blueprint.
It shows you the entire hierarchy of all
your pages. Now, here's the crucial
part. Whatever you name your pages here
becomes the actual file name. And this
is why your main home page has to be
named index. Web servers are set up to
automatically look for a file named
index.html when someone visits your
site. So, remember that.
So, if the site manager is for your
whole website, the object manager is for
just the page you're working on right
now. It gives you a neat list of every
single item on that page. Every picture,
every piece of text, every line. It's a
lot like the layers panel in a program
like Photoshop. From here, you can
reorder things, hide them, lock them.
It's your best friend for taming
complexity on a busy page.
Okay, so we've placed our objects, we've
structured our site. Now, it's time to
zoom back in and get into the real
nitty-gritty. This is where we get to
fine-tune everything and get it looking
absolutely perfect. It's called the
property inspector. Anytime you click on
an object, this panel comes to life and
lets you change literally everything
about it. The colors, the borders, the
size, you name it. Every single change
you make happens instantly, in real
time. No more tweaking something,
saving, and refreshing the browser to
see what happened. You see it as you do
it.
And finally, we've come to a really
crucial decision. This is something
you'll want to think about before you
even start building, because it affects
how your website will look and feel on
all the different devices out there.
You basically have two main options:
absolute layout or flexible layout.
Think of absolute layout like you're a
painter. You have a blank canvas, and
you can place any element anywhere you
want, down to the exact pixel. It gives
you total creative freedom.
Flexible layout, on the other hand, is
more like building with a the system.
You put your content into the grid and
it automatically arranges and resizes
everything to look great on any screen
from a tiny phone to a giant monitor.
And there you have it. The tools are all
laid out on the bench and the canvas is
clean and ready to go. So really, the
only question left is, what are you
going to build first?
