Before you buy
- On an Apple Silicon Mac it needs Rosetta 2. The app has no native Apple Silicon code, so macOS asks to install Rosetta 2 the first time. Apple has announced that macOS 27 is the last release with full Rosetta 2 support, and from macOS 28 Intel-only apps like this one won't run on Apple Silicon Macs, so check that Allavsoft has shipped a native version before you upgrade past macOS 27.
- Newer macOS versions aren't on Allavsoft's list. Its Mac page lists versions up to macOS 14 Sonoma. If you run something newer, the trial is the way to confirm it works on your Mac.
- Test your own sites first. Sites change how they deliver media, and Trustpilot reviewers report YouTube and Spotify downloads stopping for a while until Allavsoft shipped a fix.
- Only download what you're allowed to. Saving media is subject to each site's terms of service and to copyright. Use it for your own uploads, free-to-download material and content you have permission to keep.
- Mac and Windows licenses are separate. Buying this license doesn't cover a Windows PC.

Overview
Allavsoft for Mac uses a single window with four tabs: Download, Activity, Convert and Merge. On the Download tab you paste a link, pick the quality, choose where to save, and optionally tick "Automatically Convert to" with a format such as MPEG-4 Video. Files go to the folder shown under Save to, and a big round button starts the job.
Allavsoft for Mac's Download tab: URL box, Download Quality set to Best Available, a /Users/Allavsoft save folder, and Automatically Convert to MPEG4 Video ticked.
Features
Download from 1,000+ sites in two steps
Allavsoft for Mac downloads from YouTube, Spotify, Facebook, Vimeo, Dailymotion, SoundCloud, eHow, Udemy and many more. Copy the page address, click Paste URL (or use "For Multiple URLs" for a batch), and click Download. It saves in the best quality the site offers, up to 4K or 1080p, and it pauses and resumes downloads.
Allavsoft's own two-step guide on the Mac: Step 1 pastes the video URL, Step 2 is the Download button, with MPEG4 output selected and a save folder under Movies.
Formats ready for iMovie, Final Cut Pro and Apple devices
Allavsoft for Mac converts whatever the site serves (FLV, WebM, F4V, MP4 and others) into MP4, MOV, Apple ProRes, AVI, WMV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VOB, MKV, DV, 3GP, TS and more. ProRes and MOV drop straight into iMovie, Final Cut Pro X or 7 and Final Cut Express, and the device presets cover iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and QuickTime, plus Android phones and game consoles.
Music in Apple Lossless, M4A, AIFF or MP3
Allavsoft for Mac saves audio from music videos and music sites (Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer and others) as MP3, Apple Lossless, M4A, WAV, AIFF, AAC, AC3, FLAC, OGG, MP2, DTS and more, so tracks go into the Music app in the format you prefer.
Convert, trim and adjust files already on your Mac
Allavsoft for Mac's Convert tab works on files you already have. Pick a file, choose the output format and quality, and with Show Advanced Options you can change the volume (0 to 200) and cut out a section by start and end time. The Merge tab joins several clips into one.
The Mac Convert tab: a downloaded MP4 selected, MPEG4 Video output at High quality, the volume slider, and Cut Video start and end times.
Benefits
- No second converter. Video arrives as MOV or ProRes for your editing app, and music arrives as Apple Lossless or M4A.
- One app for many sites. You don't need a separate tool, or a sketchy website, for each service.
- Pay once. The lifetime license includes updates, which a downloader needs as sites change.
- Covers older Macs. It still lists old macOS versions that many current downloaders no longer support.
Real-World Uses
- A video editor pulls their own old YouTube uploads back as ProRes to recut them in Final Cut Pro.
- A DJ saves their SoundCloud mixes as Apple Lossless for a set played offline.
- A student downloads purchased course videos that permit offline viewing, merges the parts and copies them to an iPad.
- A teacher trims a Creative Commons clip to the two minutes the class needs.
Who It's For, and Who Should Skip It
Allavsoft for Mac suits Mac users who download from many sites and want the files in Apple-friendly formats without a second app. It's a good fit if you edit in iMovie or Final Cut, or if you're on an older Intel Mac.
Skip it if you want a native Apple Silicon app with a modern Mac design: Allavsoft runs through Rosetta 2 and its interface looks dated. Skip it too if you only need YouTube, since free tools built on yt-dlp handle that, or if you want Netflix, Disney+ or Apple TV+ downloads, which are DRM-protected. Those services' own offline downloads are the reliable route.
Usage Guide
- Download the DMG from allavsoft.com (about 192 MB) and open it.
- Run the installer package. It installs Allavsoft in your Applications folder. On an Apple Silicon Mac, accept the prompt to install Rosetta 2.
- If macOS blocks it, Control-click the app in Finder and choose Open, or click "Open Anyway" in System Settings > Privacy & Security, as Allavsoft's install guide shows.
- Paste a link on the Download tab, or add several with "For Multiple URLs".
- Pick quality and format, and tick "Automatically Convert to" for MOV, ProRes, MP3 or another format.
- Click Download and follow progress on the Activity tab.
- Register with the license name and code from your order email to remove the trial limits.
Where it falls short
- Not native on Apple Silicon. Every program in the package, including its bundled ffmpeg, is Intel-only code, so it relies on Rosetta 2.
- Gatekeeper friction. Allavsoft's own guide explains that it chose not to notarize the app so that older macOS versions keep working, which is why recent macOS versions can show a "cannot be opened" warning on first launch.
- Sites break it for a while. Trustpilot's one-star reviews are mostly about YouTube or Spotify downloads stopping until an update arrived.
- Spotify account risk. Spotify downloads need your Spotify login, and some users report their account being blocked or closed.
- Dated design. The window looks much as it did years ago and doesn't follow current macOS design.
What Users Say
Trustpilot: 4.0 out of 5 from 316 reviews
Allavsoft's Trustpilot page covers both the Windows and Mac versions, and 76% of its reviews give five stars. Few reviewers say which version they use. One who switched platforms wrote:
- "Good tool for me as a dj. I was using the windows version en now will be using the mac version" — Jermain Vliet
Other five-star reviewers mostly mention support:
- "customer service has always quickly responded and has been helpful." — Flyer
- "Definitely worth the paid version." — Terry J, who got a reply within an hour
The 11% of one-star reviews are mostly about sites that stopped working:
- "My Allavsoft does not download anything anymore not even YouTube." — Alexander Wright. Allavsoft replied: "YouTube is still supported."
- "Complete piece of junk software!!" — Dale Morgan (July 2026), whose Spotify and Deezer downloads stopped. Allavsoft's reply: "We have found the solution to Spotify again."
- "Spotify closes account if this software is used." — Ronald Ramakers
Allavsoft replies to every negative review there, usually within a day.
Other reviews
TechJury's Deyan Georgiev, reviewing the Windows version that shares the Mac version's features, wrote: "Allavsoft might not have the fanciest user interface, but it makes up for it by being intuitive." On AlternativeTo, stefanachermann says it "works to download music from Tidal to FLAC or MP3", while TorQueMoD calls it "just a GUI for Youtube-DL".
The pattern: users like how simple it is and how quickly support answers, and the complaints are about sites breaking it for a while. Mac-specific reviews are rare, so the trial is the best test of how it runs on your Mac and your version of macOS.
Comparisons
Allavsoft for Mac vs free yt-dlp apps
Free Mac apps built on yt-dlp are quick to get YouTube fixes and cost nothing. Allavsoft adds music-service downloads, conversion to ProRes and Apple Lossless, trimming, merging and email support in one app, and still covers old macOS versions.
Allavsoft for Mac vs the Windows version
Both versions share the same download engine, tabs and price. The Windows version adds a screen recorder button in its toolbar, while the Mac version leans on Apple formats such as ProRes and Apple Lossless. Each license works on one platform only.
Editions and Pricing
| License | Price | Macs | Updates |
| Lifetime License (sold here) | $59.99 (listed at $99.99) | 1-3 | Free for life |
| 1 Year License | $29.99 (listed at $49.99) | 1-2 | For one year |
| 1 Month License | $19.99 (listed at $29.99) | 1-2 | For one month |
The shorter licenses are on Allavsoft's own Mac store. For anyone who'll use it more than a couple of months, the lifetime license is the better deal. From September 19 to December 29, 2026, Allavsoft's coupon code Give70OFF, typed on the order page, brings the Mac lifetime license down to $18 (we checked it at checkout on October 24, 2026).
FAQs
Does Allavsoft run on an M1, M2, M3 or M4 Mac?
Yes, through Rosetta 2. Allavsoft for Mac is built for Intel processors only, and Apple Silicon Macs run it with Rosetta 2, which macOS offers to install the first time you open the app.
Why does macOS say Allavsoft can't be opened?
Allavsoft's install guide explains that it doesn't have the app notarized by Apple, so Gatekeeper may stop it the first time. Control-click the app and choose Open, or click "Open Anyway" in System Settings > Privacy & Security. Allavsoft's install guide walks through the same steps.
Can I edit Allavsoft downloads in Final Cut Pro?
Yes. Allavsoft for Mac can convert downloads to Apple ProRes or MOV as it saves them, so they open in Final Cut Pro, iMovie or Final Cut Express without another conversion.
Does an Allavsoft for Mac license also work on Windows?
No. Allavsoft sells Mac and Windows licenses separately, at the same price. The Mac lifetime license covers 1-3 Macs.
Is Allavsoft for Mac safe?
Allavsoft for Mac's installer from allavsoft.com is signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate. Download it only from allavsoft.com: "free license" and "full version" copies on YouTube and file sites are a common way to spread malware.
How much disk space does Allavsoft for Mac need?
Allavsoft for Mac takes about 375 MB once installed, plus room for your downloads. The installer itself is about 192 MB.
System Requirements
- macOS 14 Sonoma, 13 Ventura, 12 Monterey, 11 Big Sur, 10.15 Catalina or earlier versions on Allavsoft's list
- Intel Mac, or Apple Silicon Mac with Rosetta 2
- 512 MB RAM or more
- About 375 MB of disk space for the app, plus room for downloads
- An internet connection
Conclusion
Allavsoft for Mac is worth it if you download from many different sites and want the results in Apple formats, ProRes for editing and Apple Lossless for music, without a second app. The $59.99 lifetime license is fair, and the Give70OFF coupon makes it an easy decision while it runs. The main reasons to hesitate are that it's an Intel app running through Rosetta 2 on newer Macs, and that sites like YouTube and Spotify can break it for a while. Try it on your own Mac and your own links first, then buy.
