so in this tutorial we're going to get
into InDesign and we're going to do a
rough guide to placing picture logo type
and picture into a document which would
be a PDF which can be distributed on the
internet so let's go got everything
fired up
so first things first new document go
there and indesign gives you a couple of
different presets I said the page size
two letter which means eight and a half
by eleven that got some other ones in
your to legal tabloid a five four three
two one all the way down to compact disc
and web layouts so just say okay let
that come up now first thing we want to
do is look at our pages and the great
let's create a couple different pages
they're all assigned to this master what
they call master a first thing we want
to do is overall masters we want to drop
in this graphic so i'm going to go to
place grab my swimsuit jpg and drop it
right there
zoom out a little bit we see that the
bounding box is bigger than the image so
we resize that in here and then click
the image again to actually resize the
image hold down shift scale
proportionally and we can play with that
a little bit i don't want to want to
make it a little interesting so i won't
go like that would be my composition and
next we do put a logo there so let's
bring in the logo
let's see level black we can draw the
size of that just like so pop that in
there
and on this page let's drop a let's call
this out and make sure we know let
people know that this is what's up in
here so let's block that out and let's
crank that opacity down a little bit you
can play with that slider up here and
get some effects I got selected you got
play with this little go dial in what
you want okay and then finally drop a
little type in there and we're going to
put a spring summer 2011 swim suit
select that Center in and drop it right
in there
ok so that's our basic layout for the
cover
real simple next thing we're going to do
is let's create some pages with some
type so let's go into our our master
pages and what the master page does is
you can have more than one of them but
each master page is something every
Pete's so if i want to i got 20 pages
that are going the same layout i want to
create a master page instead of having
to create layout again and again and
again and again
so first thing we want to do is bring
our logo back in here
logo just dropped in like so it's kind
of that bounding box a little bit
drop that in there and let's create some
text win some type of blocks there goes
one copy that i'm going to paste it into
place with a sit right on top of the
other one and drag it right there and
get a little bit of a gutter you can see
it's a little bigger than the page i'm
gonna grab both of those and scale them
into sighs I'm gonna grab this going to
copy this and paste that
put it down here too and there we go now
i gotta come back into the same thing
with the graphic drop that in there and
let's Center is ok now let's also put
the web URL anew
www rose that calm okay so that way
people are interested american families
on the way they can go straight to the
site
oh and let's just leave a little bit of
space between these logos and I was
branded looking good
zoom out select all this copy this paste
it into place
let's drag it over here now one nice
feature about in design something they
have called text threading text threads
can be displayed from the view menu and
go to extras show
text threads now i guess in to hook up a
text around just grab this grab this
little box right here drag it in there
that blue lines 7,000 thread is an
option now sorry for that interruption
at my news uh so now we click here to
create next text thread connected there
you can see this one a little bit better
when taking this text thread and
connected there so now we put typing is
going to flow through allergies so this
master area that this is the master page
a4 finished so let's go and just bring
in some type and one nice feature about
in designs when you're bringing in your
your documents that it kind of gives you
all the pet of the page that you need so
if you've got a 40 page document it's
gonna roll out 40 pages or dropped out
right in this text area and it's
updating so if we scroll down here on
our own menu we can see that we've got
some let got a total of twelve pages
come back to the top
so next we want to do with us work on
this type body of type so i'm going to
select everything and i'm going to left
justify it and now i want to hook up
this these headlines
so I'm gonna switch the
front-of-the-house something bold and
I'm gonna bump up the points so we can
see it a little bit better and i'm going
to make the color make the color red
ok
now what we can do is still have to go
through every text item and and dial up
the style for it we can make some kind
of character style and characters down
we just type in headline in saving now I
wouldn't go here headline-grabbing
overhead lines and apply the style so
you get the point out the numbers we can
drop it here and tan through somewhere
that sounds cool
so there we go
can get a good idea now let's just jump
down the bottom I got one more picture I
wanted to kind of get into so
Oh almost last i wanna i want to change
this out so what I want to do is almost
like that let that page and say override
all master page item
and let's get rid of this this text info
is bringing this picture keeling which
is another model for this particular
project so bring her in
okay I want this to be a full-page I
wanted to be full page so I'm gonna
bring this up here and I want to bring
this down some and double click this
like i showed you before we want to
actually edit the image outside of the
bounding box and we can blow that out
like so in its crop get all the cumbia
share the crapper head just a little bit
will so that's our that's not look book
list our store logo back on their the
logo right there so that's our catalog
on lookbook whatever time ever on the
client highlight this text and let's say
we want to add line but we don't want
the color red we can always edit with a
always add styles to so i just sent it
and
it looks good so to make a PDF we just
go to export will call this lookbook
2011 press save and say okay and just
gonna export the image and open it going
to export to PDF and down one nice thing
is you'll see that this text is actually
live text and just come on down we can
see this text is live
we've got some links in here from the
document all these things are great if
you're posting your document on the
worldwide web ciarlo those pretty sharp
that livetype come down and check out
the hiker at the end and everything was
good
so that's how you do it
