Combine PDF Files in Preview

Have you wondered if it was possible to merge similar PDF files together into one file without downloading third-party software? Well, turns out you can--and it's really simple, too! In this screencast we show you how to easily merge your PDFs into one document using Preview.

hi everyone I'm Dan Lorenzo and this is
a quick tip for mac tuts+ so i'm here to
show you how to combine PDF files in the
preview application that comes standard
with mac OS 10
this is useful if you have related
documents that you want to combine likes
a tax returns from years past
you can combine them and have them all
in one file instead of searching through
many for something so you'll see here
that I have two pdfs PDF one and PDF -
now I want the content of PDF to to
merge into PDF one so that I have one
document with two pages instead of two
one page documents
so let's go ahead and open up the first
one ok and this is my first PDF document
and it's pretty great
so the first thing we're going to do is
go up to the View menu and we're going
to ensure that thumbnails is selected as
you can see it is so we see the preview
of the document in this thumbnails
window
so now we're going to get our second PDF
that we want to merge into PDF one and
let me make this a little smaller
there we go and so we drag PDF to into
the thumbnail window of the preview
application
so now we have PDF one up here in PDF to
to combine the pdfs all we do is click
and drag PDF to into PDF one and let go
and if you'll see up here there's a
little arrow if we click down here
you can now see that there's actually
two pages to this one document this is
the first page and this is the second
page
ok so now that we merge these two pdfs
together we can either go to file export
to create a new document with the merge
pdfs or we can go to file save to
overwrite the existing one page document
and include the newly added pages so my
case I'm just going to save PDF one and
i'm going to rename it to reflect the
changes
behind pdfs and so if we open it up
we can now see that yep we have the
contents of PDF one and PDF to within
our new PDF document
