in this tutorial we're going to take a
look at how to backup your email
calendar contacts and other items
outlook 2010 the procedure remains
largely similar in outlook 2007 as well
you should really run this process about
once a month in order to be able to
recover from a virus hard drive failure
or a variety of other items that can
cause you to lose data
so let's go ahead and walk through the
process at this point
first thing we're going to do is to go
up to the file menu and click on options
on the screen that appears
let's go to advanced on the left hand
side and then click on export now this
research to be someone familiar if
you've done this before on older
versions about look if you haven't
not to worry it's pretty straightforward
wizard so the first thing we're going to
do is select export to a file and click
on next
then we're going to go ahead and select
outlook data file . PST
let's say our outlook backup file
ok so here we can choose which folders
we want to back up so i might want to
back up my inbox my calendar or I might
want to back up everything and I can do
that by simply clicking on the top level
of the tree and selecting next
at this point you have the ability to
change or browse to a different location
I'm fine with wear mine safe to just for
the sake of time I've already read
through this process so i'm not going to
go ahead and run through it again about
you click finish
i'm going to click cancel at this point
ok so here's my backup file you can see
that my files a little art so we're
taking a little while back up
I would strongly recommend to copy this
off to an external drive on so that you
have more than one location
I again if your hard drive fails you
don't want to be stuck with everything
on one computer so if you copy this
often external drive
let's say your hard drive fails tomorrow
or next month you'll have the ability to
recover at whatever . this backup was
taken
