at backing up and restoring lost email
messages in Outlook Express it's a
little more complicated than outlook in
that it uses multiple files instead of
12 store all your messages in but in
case you find yourself in a scenario
where outlook crashed or you're trying
to restore your messages you'll need to
know these few simple steps to find them
so I've created a basic email address
within outlook and these are the folders
a typical folders if you've created more
you'll see more here and you'll have
your messages here and your deleted
items and so on
now say for example you need to import
messages or you want to backup the ones
that you have here is raining need to go
to find them
you go to your C Drive documents and
settings and here you'll see all the
users on your computer important that
you also choose folder i go to tools
folder options view and goes to show
hidden files and folders because once
you get in here you'll need it
the folders for your where email
messages are actually hiding our is
hidden so choose your user and then you
want to go to the folder local settings
which as you can see it's kind of great
here
that's because it was hidden before now
it's not application data microsoft then
you want to look for Outlook Express

now if you want to make a backup you
need only to copy these and paste them
in a different location
now let's say I'm backing them up i
wanted to back them up to a new folder
on my desktop called email back up make
sure you do a copy and paste not a
cut-and-paste and now I've got a backup
as of today
now if the same thing happens you need
to locate a missing inbox file you can
go to start search you go to all files
and folders and you'll do star . these
and dog dieselboy X in x-ray and it
should locate all the dbx folders as you
see here I've got these are my email
folders it will actually find two sets
now we'll find the ones on the desktop
and I should find the ones deep within
local settings but just so you know the
folders the email folders for Outlook
Express and in . d DX to import them if
you've had a failure you're trying to
restore backup it's real easy the open
public express you go to file import
messages you'll choose Alex press six
and you'll choose import mail from an OE
sixth or directory in giving option you
want to go to your backup directory
which is I
desktop and your email back up and it
finds all the folders that are there
then you can hit next and import them so
had I had a bunch of messages it would
have imported them all so it's important
to know how to get to your outlook
express emails is a little bit different
than outlook and how to restore them in
a crisis situation often times if all
the crashes heals all your emails will
still be fine you'll just need to find
those dbx files and we saw them so i
