in this lesson we will learn how to draw
lines in CAD
lines are the most basic and commonly
used shapes in CAD
here when we refer to lines we
specifically mean straight lines
excluding curves or arcs
the line drawing icon is located at the
top of the left toolbar
you can directly click on the line icon
button choose line from the draw drop
down menu or simply Type L in the
command line to start drawing lines
first let's use the toolbar button to
draw a line
click on the line button then click at a
certain position on the drawing to set
the first point of the line
now move your cursor to the right and
you will see prompts displaying the
length and angle of the line
this part that shows the dynamic values
is called Dynamic input which means user
can see Dynamic Dimensions angles and
other input options displayed near the
cursor as they move it over the drawing
while clicking with the mouse to select
the second point is possible it may not
be as precise as using keyboard input
alternatively you can enter the length
value and then the angle value after
pressing the tab button to confirm the
second point
from the previous operation we noticed
that continuing the cursor movement
allows us to draw lines connected to the
second point of the previous line
additionally let's shift our Focus to
the command line
we can follow the prompts on the command
line to perform operations
the command line describes the current
software operation for example in our
case it indicates that we are currently
drawing lines and the software is
waiting for us to select the next line
segment's endpoint
the options in square brackets offer
more choices
for example besides selecting the next
point we can input C to close the line
for you to undo
now let's input C to close this shape
and form a quadrilateral
let's try it again
you can press the spacebar to repeat the
previous command
click on the first point then the second
third and finally connect to the
starting point of the first line to form
a triangle
press the space bar or the enter key to
end the line command
in the exercise above we use the toolbar
button to draw these lines
next let's learn how to draw lines using
the command line
Type L and press enter
the command for drawing lines is line
cat offers a simplified command L which
allows you to quickly access the line
drawing function making it more
efficient than using the line button
following the prompts input the
coordinates of the first point for
example 20 comma zero
after confirming with the spacebar you
can locate the second point on the
screen to draw a line
you can enable object snaps while
positioning points which will help you
accurately select the endpoints of the
line
for example we can snap to the center of
the circle and then the next line will
snap to the midpoint of this line
press the space bar or the enter key to
exit the line command
through today's lesson we have gained a
certain understanding of drawing lines
and using command line prompts
with this Foundation we can now try
various other drawing commands such as
drawing arcs and circles
we'll cover those in our next class
thank you for watching
