hey guys welcome to film learn the show
dedicated to learning some filmmaking
and learn you and guess what today we're
not in After Effects we're not in
Premiere Pro we're not an audition we're
in new territory lawrence marker now
over the many years and seasons of gum
learnin i've had many requests to use
different types of software and one of
those requests for us to use wondershare
filmora
and it just so happens that film or i
approached me and said would you like to
do a film in an episode on their
software so I thought why not
so let's firstly talk about what filmora
actually is wondershare filmora is a fun
and easy way to edit your footage
perfect for beginners filmora hosts an
extensive effects store with loads of
elements to enhance your production
including filters and animated elements
and other modern video effects when new
collections added every month
it features both basic and advanced
video editing capabilities so it's great
for people just starting at or the more
advanced editor click the link in the
description to download your copy today
well that didn't sound pre-recorded at
all did it now one little bit of trivia
guys that I would like you to know this
entire episode was actually produced in
wondershare filmora
so that title sequence of the staff at
lower third that came up on screen and
all the editing was done inside the
program
pretty cool huh oh if anyone's wondering
why there's a giant screen behind me and
all the shelving is gone it's because
I'm actually renovating the studio right
now I figured since we've now achieved
the goal of a hundred thousand
subscribers or about to finish season 6
it's a bad time for a revamp of the
studio and one of those things includes
a brand new PC the 55 inch 4k monitor
and yes that is way too big but enough
of that let's jump into the video gang
ok guys here we are in wondershare
filmora now at first glance this seems
like a pretty familiar layer to anyone
who's opened up many editing software in
the last 10 years you should be pretty
much at home it's a perfect start point
for a beginner too because everything is
extra
namely straightforward so let's have a
quick look over the interface and then
we'll do some fun stuff so let's head
down here firstly and talk about the
timeline as it of thought we have two
video tracks and two audio tracks but
you aren't limited to that say you want
multiple elements or clips on top of
each other it's super easy to add more
tracks we just head down here and click
add more tracks looking then up the
amount of text and audio tracks here now
if we want to add more video tracks well
that's easy too let's firstly add a
video track like so and then the moment
we add a second layer you can see
filmora adds a new track automatically
now we've also got the preview window
over here and of course we've got our
menu up here which contains this message
button this has some really cool info
like if new packs have been released or
even some new tutorials by the therm or
our staff themselves now along this area
here is where you'll find all the
content you've downloaded from the film
or effect site now they do have some
free packs you can download and film or
itself is also free to use but in order
to remove the watermark from your
footage once you've exported it you do
have to buy a subscription to their
service but we can touch on that later
now say you have your subscription all
set up and you want to start downloading
effects or elements well that's pretty
easy you firstly have to log in and
activate your ID by clicking this button
right here which I already did as you
can see and then we simply click the
more effects button run up here and a
new window open up and we are in the
effects store area from there it's
simply a matter of searching through the
loads of packs and finding one you might
want to download for example I'm digging
this one right here so I hit download a
little pop-up window comes up and says
it's downloading to my effects now I
went in downloaded a whole bunch of
these to play with now at any point if
you want to see what you've got just
click on my effects and it'll load up a
big list of all the things you've
downloaded so we've got a bunch of
different elements to choose from
titles lower thirds V effects elements
like explosions or destructions muzzle
flashes and a whole lot more but we've
got our effects so let's close that
window head back
to filmora and have a little fun okay
we're back now gang let's start by
importing some footage let's head to
media up here and then I'll choose
import grab a movie file and that's it
we can then double click that to add it
to our timeline or drag and drop it in
now for more is an editor so we can cut
our footage easily by grabbing the cut
tool here and just trimming the footage
as you see fit
you know I trimmed one earlier so it's
one of those pre-prepared ones so I'm
not gonna trim it on screen right now
okay so the next thing I want to do is
add a lower third so I'm gonna head to
the tax credit menu right here and I
think I'll grab this one let's drop it
on this track and from there we can
customize it like so just click the text
icon and then the title editor will open
up in the preview window up here now one
thing I did notice when I'm editing in
the preview window is that these are
text boxes layered on top of each other
so it can get a little bit cumbersome to
work with them in this preview window so
I highly recommend clicking on the
advanced button here and we'll do a
editing here from there it's a matter of
selecting the text box and typing
whatever you want you can also play with
the font the size the alignment in here
if you like you can also play with the
position and the scale within the
preview box here as well to gang as you
can see it's all looking pretty good now
this is par for the course with all
these elements across all of these
panels gang it is really easy to work
with if we head the transitions we have
a bunch of them to blender cuts easily
in filters you can see we have an
absolute buttload of color grading
options some weird noise we have a just
an absolute crapload of things you can
do to customize your shot moving on over
to overlays and a lot of these are just
simple borders there's also some
distortion effects here but one thing I
do want to point out is if you can see
this arrow here up in the corner it
means that you haven't downloaded the
element yet and you can simply double
click this icon to download that and
we'll come straight on the computer and
update filmora automatically moving on
over to elements this is where pretty
much our alpha Channel VFX components
live now this is a bit more basic than
our other compositing software you're
just clicking and dragging them on top
of each other there's not a lot of
customized
yeah but having said that you can do a
right-click once you've added it to your
timeline and head down to advanced edit
and this will open up the
picture-in-picture edit now you can add
masks at this point where you can go
into the effects menu where you can add
a drop shadow or you can add a border or
just change the orientation by rotating
the effect itself you can also go into
compositing and change the blending mode
so say if you don't like the way it's
blending on normal you can get a screen
or add or any of the ones that look
quite familiar if you've used After
Effects or premier Pro now guys just
like with the title menu as well you can
easily click on any one of these
elements that you've added to your shot
and reposition them or scale them
wherever you need them to be
now guys one thing I do want to mention
is once you've clicked on one of these
buttons along here be it overlays
elements split-screen whatever you also
have the ability to go over to our menu
over here that contains all of the
elements and just drill down to the ones
you want for example the moment you
click on it you're displaying everything
but say I want to say just check out the
VFX once I click on that and there we go
so we've now got our destruction we've
got our rain and basically everything
I've downloaded that is classified as
VFX same thing with the expansion's here
we click on that we have those too so
you're not limited to just saying oh
well I've got 383 elements and I've just
got to scroll down through them now you
can very easily just go now I want that
one
or I want that one or I want that one
ok guys using this example footage I'm
just going to quickly build a VFX shot
for you just to show you how quick and
easy it is I'm gonna zoom in to fit the
entire clip in the timeline and then
we're going to head over to the elements
section and I'm gonna hit VFX and forced
on us I think we might grab either an
explosion or a fire acid this huge fire
one will do let's just check out a
preview of that now cat doesn't look too
bad so let's just drag and drop that
onto our timeline there now it does
start a little bit too late like it
takes a little bit too long to get
started that's what I'm gonna do is just
scroll on a timeline just a little bit
until it's actually started yeah
and then I'm gonna use the cut tool just
a trim that first part off there we go
then I'm just gonna delete the excess
there and I'm just gonna drag it to
start at the start of our video there
noise now let's just adjust it I'm gonna
move it over to that section so I'm
reacting to it and I'll just scale it up
a little bit and move it over just a
little bit let's just check out how that
looks
yeah not too bad as you can see we have
a little bit of access on the back so
I'm also going to head to the end of our
video clip here and I'm just gonna use
the cut tool once more that way the
entire clip just plays as it's okay so
next I want to add say no not some smoke
just yet I'm also gonna add some embers
to the shot just to sell the fact that
all the rooms on fire so this
large-scale one will do I'm gonna drag
and drop that in there and once again
I'm just gonna use the cut tool to trim
it off and there we go hit there and
delete the excess there we go now one
thing I'm gonna do is I don't really
like the way those looks so I'm gonna go
into the advanced edit option go into
compositing and change this from normal
to screen that way they get a little bit
paler and they glow just a little bit
and I think I'll do to finish this one
off there's just to add a little bit of
smoke that's just across the screen it's
blowing smoke what I'll do so I'm just
gonna drag and drop that up as you can
see my large-scale embers I cut them off
a little too early and didn't drag them
all the way out so I'm gonna drag that
out once again zone lasts the length of
the clip and I'll just trim that when I
trim my blowing smoke so we'll grab the
cut tool once more and I'm just gonna
delete those two and we'll go back to
the start of our clip we run here and if
we hit play
now that doesn't look too bad at all and
what did that take us what a minute two
minutes and that's how easy it is to
build an effect shot in filmora moving
on from that the last two panels are for
layering split screen layout and finally
the export button allows you to save
your finished work to upload to YouTube
or Vimeo or whatever else you want to do
with it I ain't judgin but that my
friends is our whirlwind tour
wondershare filmora done so guys that is
one of shares for more it is a really
easy piece of software to use it's great
for beginners just stepping their toe
into the effects and you have access to
