In this video, we'll show you how to
create and configure an EF Core model
using Entity Developer, a visual OM tool
from Devart that simplifies model design
and code generation. Let's get started.
Entity Developer works both as a Visual
Studio plug-in and as a standalone
application. Perfect if you're using a
different IDE like VS Code. In this
video, we'll create a .NET project in VS
Code and use Entity Developer as a
standalone tool. No need for Visual
Studio or built-in integrations. Let's
create a model using the database first
approach. Create a new EF Core model and
select database first. Choose your data
provider. You can use either connect or
an open-source connector. In this
tutorial, we'll use a MySQL database
with an open- source provider and enter
the connection details. Pick the tables
you want to include. Then follow the
wizard to set naming conventions, EF
core version, and code generation
settings.
Finally, save your model and generate
the code. Your DB context and entity
classes are ready to use.
To update your model, right-click it and
add a new property. Once added, go to
update database from model to apply
changes. Follow the wizard to review the
schema updates and confirm the script.
After execution, save the model and
check that your changes appear in the
generated code.
Let's create a model from scratch using
the model first approach. Start a new EF
core model in entity developer and
select model first. Configure model
settings, choose code generation
templates, and finish the wizard. Add
your classes, define properties, and set
up primary keys.
You can also add associations and
inheritances to shape relationships and
hierarchies in your model.
Finally, save the model and generate the
code. Your EF core classes are ready.
The update database from model wizard
detects every change. New fields,
renamed properties, updated types, and
generates safe SQL scripts to apply
them. No need to drop tables or lose
data. Just choose what to update, and
Entity Developer handles the rest.
To create a database script from your
model, go to model, generate database
script from model. Follow the wizard to
configure sync settings and select the
tables to include. Review the generated
SQL script. It's ready to run in your
database environment. Ready to speed up
your EF Core development? Download a
free 30-day trial of Entity Developer
and experience faster, error-free OM
design. Try it now and simplify your
workflow.
