Lift off. We are go for .NET Data
Community Standup. [music]
>> All right, awesome. Welcome everybody.
It's another month and another
.NET Data Community Standup livestream.
We have a great topic
for uh today. So, definitely looking
forward to
having Yuri talk uh us or tell us about
the .NET Connect and Entity Developer.
But, before we do that,
I have a few items on the list to tick
off. The first one, obviously, is that
the .NET
uh
not .NET. Well, .NET as well, but Entity
Framework Core 11 Preview 2 is out. You
can download it from NuGet, and you can
uh try it and play with it. There's a
bunch of new features. We are now in the
phase where most of the new features
start rolling in um because it's like in
the middle of the the development cycle.
There is no polishing it and no
stabilizing stuff like that.
So, we have a few items on the list that
are new and definitely worth talking
about. The first one is the support for
min by and max by.
So, in the in link operators, we have
these two methods that are quite new
and you can now use them plus the async
variants to translate
them into your SQL or whatever querying
language your provider is using. So, for
example, into SQL Server, Postgres, and
stuff like that. So, min by max by
little simplification if you are
interested in max and min.
Then, we have support and it's kind of
going in in waves. There will be more
stuff coming in around vector search and
vector indexes.
It's currently experimental in SQL
Server,
but you can use
functions like vector distance and
vector search and has vector index on
the databases that obviously support
that. We are working on making sure that
we have like
a unified API surface that the databases
that do support it can
plug into instead of having custom
functions for each and every database,
meaning that you have also the unified
way to do these these queries and stuff
like that.
Then, there was a bunch of full text
improvements, full text search
improvements on the SQL Server. So, if
you are using the full text search
on the SQL Server, you can now use
bunch of new functions and features
around that. And together with that, we
have a support for table valued
functions for the full text search.
So, there's a function that's called
free text table or contains table. That
means you can do the searching if you
are using the full text. And finally,
the last one, a kind of a small but also
important, especially if you're using
SQL Server 2025,
uh SQL Server 2025 introduce a new
function called JSON contains,
uh which basically checks whether a
value exists in a JSON document.
So, uh we are now using it in
in um our translations
if you have the compatibility level set
to 170
on the Entity Framework. So, instead of
using the where in select open JSON and
stuff like that, now we just do JSON
contains.
Um
so, most notably, this function can
actually use JSON indexes if there is
one defined. So, obviously, it's kind of
a performance uh performance benefit.
And another small uh item on my list
that I want to talk about before we jump
into uh into the scheduled topic is uh
Microsoft Build.
Let me try this one
if I can make it happen.
So,
the Build is coming this year to San
Francisco. It's June 2nd and 3rd. We
will have sessions from people like
Satya and Scott Hanselman, Jared Palmer,
and other people across the .NET and VS
Code and VS and GitHub uh and more
interactive sessions, meetups,
workshops, stuff like that.
Uh the registration is open. We are
excited to connect with you in San
Francisco and virtually. So, definitely
go there and check
the the links or just find your your
favorite search engine
what um
what you can do to register and check
what's happening and stuff like that.
But,
with that, let me bring in
Yuri.
Uh he is from Devart and today he is
going to tell us about the DotConnect
entity developer and how it can simplify
your workflow.
So, before we jump into the topic,
tell us a little bit about yourself.
>> [snorts]
>> Yes, hello Yuri once again. Thank you so
much for inviting me today. I'm glad to
be here. So, I'm Yuri. I'm working at
Devart for the last 2 years. So, that's
the great company
and we met with you in Poland at DotNet
conference. It was a great time. I met
lots of great people and I like this
community very much. So, I'm mainly
responsible for doing sales in our
company. So, like four different product
lines. So, Devart is on the market for
around like we almost like 3 years on
the market. And today I
Today I prepared a short presentation
about the products that we wanted to
demonstrate to you and it will be a
short demo at the end.
>> Awesome. Tell me a little bit about
Devart because I'm pretty sure people
around the data and databases know about
bunch of different providers that Devart
has and had um
since the Entity Framework 6 or even
before for various databases. Um is it
still the case or did Devart expanded
the the portfolio to some other stuff
that people might be interested in?
>> Yeah, we're actually the multi-product
company and we have two major product
lines right now that we are
actively promoting. That's the database
tools. That's the IDEs and tools for the
SQL Server, for Oracle, for Postgres,
and for MySQL and MariaDB, of course.
And the data connectivity product line,
that's what we are going to to talk
right now. So, data connectivity product
line includes
ADO.NET providers, Delphi, DB Express,
Python connectors, JDBC drivers, SSIS
components, and Excel add-ins.
So, the entire product line is mainly
was built to help developers to build
their application and get that
straightforward connection to the
different applications, cloud services,
etc. Instead of writing the code, you
can get our trial license and
get access straight away.
>> You mentioned Delphi.
I
>> Yeah.
>> I I actually well my my kind of
professional career started with Delphi.
I was always always joking that I was
following Anders Hejlsberg with my like
languages. So, it was Delphi first or
Pascal and and Delphi first. And then
C#, it it kind of broke with the
TypeScript, but that's a different
story.
At least for me it broke. Um is Delphi
still a thing?
>> Actually, that's not what
>> the How is the community there?
>> Community uh there are like
it's decreasing. Of course, we are
seeing decline, but that's the the
product line that we've developed for
years and we keep supporting it. That's
not we what we like actively promoting,
but that's the data access components
for Delphi for to get access to Oracle
cloud applications, different databases.
So, instead of
writing the code, it's much easier to
get our product and to get access in the
code to access all the data
straightforward. So,
yeah, that's still on the market and
there are tons of legacy applications.
So, if someone still uses it, you can
take an advantage and use our connectors
at this point.
>> Interesting. By the way, guys, if you
want to send a question, you are
definitely welcome to do it in the chat.
I'm monitoring it. I'm again alone here.
So, it's a little bit more difficult to
push all the different buttons and
levers and stuff like that, but I'm
trying my best. So, if you have
questions as Yuri is explaining
and doing his presentation, definitely
feel free to ask in the chat. I will try
to relay those questions. If we don't
have the answers and stuff like that,
because obviously there's the like
situation we don't know all the answers,
we will make sure that it will be
responded later in the chat or in the
comments on on YouTube and other places
where the question was actually asked.
So, let me bring this one because, yeah,
Delphi Visual Basic, good times.
I mean,
yes.
I remember
it's probably
15 plus years ago. I was I was already
working in .NET and I
came to a Delphi conference at that
time. Kind of to like look like what's
happening in the in the old section.
And they were showing something that
completely threw me off because I was
used to the rich ecosystem of .NET. They
were showing that at the time the Delphi
the IDE was able to show value of like
date times in the debugger instead of
just address and stuff like that which
for .NET we take for granted that you
can look at the string and date time and
and whatever. So, yeah. Anyway,
bring it on. Uh I think you have a
presentation so I will bring it on stage
and we can take it from there.
>> Okay, so let me start sharing my screen.
Let me know if you can see it.
>> Yep, we are there.
>> Yeah, okay. So, two main topics that's
the dot connect and entity developer.
So, they are both were built to help dot
connect community dot connect .NET
developers to build their .NET
applications especially for enterprise
environment to make them faster, secure,
and more maintainable.
>> [snorts]
>> And
about Devart already have mentioned a
few words. So, we are in the market
since 1997.
We have like we put the highest focus on
database tools, CLM solutions, data
providers, data integrations. So, we
have over 40,000 companies worldwide
using our tools and connectors. We have
over 200 experts worldwide. We have
several offices around the globe with
the primary in Czech Republic, also
Slovakia, Hong Kong, and part of the
team are in Ukraine right now.
So,
um
if you have more questions, feel free to
ask in the chat. We'll be glad to answer
for them. So, moving next to like what
is dot connect exactly?
>> [snorts]
>> So, dot connect is our advanced ADO.NET
data provider family. It's been designed
to
for secure and high performance access
in .NET applications. And that's
basically for all the major databases
and services like CRM, ERP, accounting,
and many more. So, all the sources can
be found on our website.
As you can see right now, if I can move
it right here.
So, you can go to devart.com, go to data
connectivity, and then dot net
providers, and here you can find all the
sources. You can divide them between
databases and clouds.
All right. Uh so, moving back to the
presentation.
Uh so, like basically, if you're
building modern web apps or integrating
with legacy systems, our dot connect
helps to streamline connectivity while
keeping your code base clean and and
efficient.
Uh for the databases that we support, uh
like you can use the presentation uh
I'll have already shown the chat
uh on the website. So, basically, that's
the most major databases,
cloud applications, and of course, the
European CRM systems, like the
Salesforce, Dynamics 365, QuickBooks
online, Zoho CRM, and others.
And dot connect universal, basically,
that's the thing that has everything
under one umbrella.
Mhm. It uh like we offer this product
that combines multiple connection types
into single solution. So, instead of if
you're working with multi
uh
like different databases, you can get
universal license, which like holds all
the database connections under one
license.
And it's pretty useful if you need like
two plus
connectors at the same time.
So, that's ideal for applications that
need to support multiple like back ends
and switch between providers without
writing the data access layer.
So, moving to the next slide uh about
advantages. So, of course, that's the
direct connection, secure data transfer
for SQL and API support, visual Server
Explorer.
Uh so, the main of course that's the
security. Since we passed all the
enterprise grade security audits to meet
your compliance requirements. About the
performance because like it's been
tested in real world dot net workloads
and applications that shows great
performance.
And our beautiful support team that
always ready to support you and you can
get access to experts to help you with
your like debugging, upgrades and
architecture.
And compatibility. Compatibility so
dot connect is built for full
compatibility across the entire dot net
ecosystem supports dot net framework
including legacy versions which is
important. Dot net core and all dot net
versions. ASP.NET, Blazer, MAUI and
others.
Then it also supports the leading ORM
frameworks including entity framework
and entity framework core with advanced
link you migrations and performance
tuning.
Uh Dapper for micro ORM use cases. Um
then also in hibernate
uh with visual model design and link
connect. Our link
our link you based ORM with like great
performance.
And
the thing that I wanted to show you
today that's our entity developer. So,
entity developer is our powerful ORM
visual designer that pairs beautifully
with dot connect. It comes in handy as a
good combination.
And it simplifies the data modeling and
automates code generation giving you
clean maintainable data access layers
without repeatable
like boiler plate.
Uh key features. Key features of entity
developer that's the data sources, of
course, that you can get access. So,
and that streamlines the creation of
core and that I have mentioned in
Hibernate and link connect models, so
you can focus on business logic instead
of like boilerplate code. By using
Entity Developer, so your teams, like
you and your teams, can cut development
time in half. It's much easier to use it
once since you have like the UI how you
can work with databases. Reduce manual
mistakes by like up to 99%. It It's very
helpful and improve the consistency
across like different projects.
So, this basically reliable,
maintainable, and productive data access
layers. So, you can use it within the
Visual Studio or you can use as a
standalone product that needs to be
installed. Like it depends on your use
case. So, if you prefer to use it
independently, okay. If you'd like to
use it within the Visual Studio, I'll be
showing you through the Visual Studio.
Cuz based on our reports, that's much
more convenient for them.
Okay. So, moving to the Visual Studio. I
have preconfigured project today.
Um by the way, if you would like to
download our dot connect
uh ADO.NET providers, you can go to the
website.
>> [snorts]
>> You can select the source
and
go. We have the free trial for 30 days,
absolutely for free. You can test
everything. You can try it. It's
for everyone who is interested to try it
and feel the power of it.
So, I also would like to say about
Oracle itself that
the product offering is a high
performance with a direct connection
support where like no Oracle client is
required. As for example, for the SQL
light, it includes built-in encryption
support eliminating the need for a
separate SQL cipher license. Universal
that I have already mentioned that has
all the connections under one license
type, so it's much easier to maintain
and manage if you are having
beautiful and big team.
Salesforce, QuickBooks, and Zoho, that's
basically it has features built-in
interactive um
open authorization, so there is no need
to manually obtain and manage tokens,
which is like
a bit painful like to manage them, so
it's much easier to work through our
like dotConnect product.
And the Entity Developer that I'm going
to demonstrate to you today.
So, I have like the the project here.
>> Can you maybe zoom a little bit?
So, folks watching on smaller screens
can see.
>> Yeah, I'll try to
>> That's better.
>> Okay. So, in this case, I have
preconfigured project. I preinstalled
the Entity Developer.
If you would like to install it using
like NuGet packages, you can
it's for the dotConnect. For the Entity
Developer, you have to download it from
the website. As you can see, you can
find them for example,
Devart Oracle.
Um
and you will see it right here. So, we
have over 5 million downloads for
dotConnect for Oracle.
But in my case, I will be adding new
um item and I will select
Devart EF Core model as of today.
So, I will click add.
Then you have to like database first or
model first, it's up to you, but in my
particular case,
um it actually doesn't matter. So, give
me a second here.
I will
come back within the second.
Okay. So, yeah. I will start from
adding. Then you can select database
first or model first. Click next. Here,
basically all you need to do is add your
like host name and the port itself, of
course, to get a connection to your
database. So, I'll provide
that's the 399.
Then we have the
and the database.
I will be using the MySQL.net
for MySQL, but as you can see, I have
pre-installed OData Connect for Oracle
and Salesforce, so you can choose
between like different sources if you
like to do so.
Then let's test the connection.
Connection is successful, and I manually
added like Sakila database. That's the
default one for tests.
So, clicking next, and here is the
topic. Like this wizard, you have to
choose the model. So, if you would like
to use already pre-configured database,
if it's like an existing project, or if
you would like to create everything from
scratch, for example, you're building
something new, you can create an empty
model and do it
from the scratch. In my case, I will be
using like generate from
from database.
Mhm. Then moving next. So, from this
section, you can see the objects. You
can select all the objects if you would
like to do so. In my case, there is no
need. Uh, I will select only the objects
related to the film. You can dive deeper
and see other objects within the like
the
the tables.
>> Yeah, like the columns and stuff like
that. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah, so everything is there.
Apart from that, you can group by
database and like I have selected
Sakila, but if you need to show all the
databases, you forgot something, you can
again use it.
>> Yeah.
>> Um moving next. In this case, basically,
that's the naming rules for entities and
their elements. That's for
developers how they would like to use
it. So,
um that's maintainable. You can change
if anything comes up or you don't need
to like add underscore, remove
underscore, remove invalid characters,
etc.
Moving next
to the next session. In this case, you
can save the connection to the model
file entity storage. Uh you can, for
example, detect many-to-many
associations. You can select the EF Core
version if you like
move in between different ones. And the
target framework, like we've recently
like updated to the
10.
>> Mhm.
>> And then, for example, like entity
space, I will just call it demo.
And moving next.
Uh on this section, I like uh this model
uh choose the diagram content.
So, you can do it custom if you would
like to like select something manually
or you can split by databases on or just
select all entities,
which I'm going to do.
So, moving next, here you can choose the
code generation templates for your
model, how the code will be generated,
and the classes
will be created based on this.
So, you can use preconfigured templates.
I will be using like EF Core, the
standard one in my case. But, if you
prefer and if anyone has some questions,
please go ahead. Like my technical team
and I will answer all the questions
after the presentation in today's
standup.
>> I I have a quick question. Can this
template be
like created manually? Assuming let's
say I am in a company and we have a
specific rules, can I add a template
into this list?
>> In this case, that would be possible and
discussable. Also, our technical team
will help you to do so. But that that's
for our mainly tech guys because like I
was like highly focused only on the
standard ones. And that's the most like
used across the industry. So, if you
would like to change something, you can
use like our preconfigured template and
apply changes right here.
>> Right. Got it. Got it.
>> Like about the general information, like
generation, if you would need to change
it about absolute output, serialization,
validation, so you can do it right here.
>> Right.
>> And then clicking next, and of course
you have to download the data from my
SQL EF Core NuGet package. And then
click finish.
And as you can see right now, though
we'll create the classes.
They have been created.
Along
And the schema has been created.
So, in this particular case, we have
four tables. That's the film, film
category,
a film actor, and film text, which is
like basically independent. And
something happened to my studio is
always, okay. Ah, no, all good. It's
been creating the entities. So, as you
can see, it has created like all the
models. And
>> [snorts]
>> in my case, we can select everything or
we can work straight with one like
object. In my case, you can like add new
property association or new inheritance.
Uh you can change something if you want
like you can like do the double click,
change the type, change the name, uh
like select the column, etc. So, in my
case, for example, like I do not see the
country right here and if I would like
to
uh add an object. But before we add you
I can open the preconfigured class and
as you can see that the code has been
preconfigured and you can use it
straight away. And if you apply any
changes and save these changes, they go
in straight to the code.
So, for example, you can see like there
is no
uh like country here. In my case, like I
will do the right click, I will add new
property,
and I will call it
country, and the type string, no
specific things. Okay, the country,
control S, saving the changes.
And moving right here and here is our
country.
>> Mhm.
>> The same goes if you I would like to
change the I don't know, let's do the
left double click and I would like to
change the
>> [snorts]
>> the type for integer 16 and that's I'm
going to that's going to be changed for
sure once I've saved the
the schema right here.
You see.
And that works for all the database. If
you would like to create everything from
scratch, you can do so. You can For
example, if you have selected like build
everything from from zero,
then you can create new class
and
create it on your own. Once you save it,
the code has been created and it's ready
to use.
>> Mhm.
>> That's why it's a beautiful and powerful
combination of entity developer with our
dot connect
connectors.
Uh and in this case, for example, we
have no association with film text. Uh I
will add a new property right here. I
will also call it country.
And uh
since we have
like integer, let's make it integer as
well. And we have country here and
there.
And let's make an association.
Okay, so
I I did it manually, but if you open it
and you would like to apply any changes,
you can do so. So, you can In my case,
that's going to be uh like
the first one is film, then the film
text. I'll remove at the foreign key
properties, and then I would need to
select the country here.
And on the right side in the film text,
the country. And save. And as you can
see, the dependency has been built.
>> Mhm.
>> And once I've saved it, it goes straight
to the code. So, that's been added that
you can see and already use it.
And uh that's basically it.
Uh um
Okay. Uh so, I probably
switched it, but again, so
once we have it,
I will open the model once again since I
I accidentally closed it. As always
happens.
And now uh if you're working with the
diagram,
you need to update your database. In
this case, we have like three different
options that you can update the model
from database, you can update the
database from the model,
or you can generate scripts. So, once
you've added like new classes, new
associations, you added new objects,
you've connected them, it's ready to
use. And like you receive the new task
from your like product owner, and you're
building something new. You enter the
entity developer, you added the new
objects, you save them, and it goes
straight to the code and class.
>> [snorts]
>> So, once it's done,
we can, for example, now update the
database from our model.
>> [snorts]
>> And then you can create the database
tables or regenerate storage if needed.
In our case, there is no need. I will
click next.
Uh in this particular case, I will
select only a secure database. If you
are using multiple databases, you can do
so.
Oh, once you having this um
action, you can jump in and see the
difference what objects been added. As
you can see, the country has been added
and the other objects been changed. And
and the key is right here.
Then click next. You can see the action
plan and the full script of it. So, if
you prefer this view, that's okay.
And click execute. And in this case, you
will update the database from the model.
Or if you prefer to use
Like if you are using like IDE for
managing your database, for example,
like the studio for MySQL, that's part
of our product that we also developed
cuz you asked about DBeaver, that's like
also our
integrated development environment, the
DBeaver studio for MySQL.
Uh
Like I have the same table. If you need
to prepare the script, you can also do
the right click on the free space,
generate database script from the model.
You can include drop, regenerate the
storage, but it's not necessary right
now. Then you can select the target
server and you can select MySQL, Oracle,
SQL Server. It depends on the
connectors. Then the server version, of
course.
Target schema and um .NET connector that
we are currently used. That's the .NET
connector for MySQL.
And again, you can see the objects
added, changed, etc.
Uh click next and here is your script.
You can basically copy it, get to the
studio,
create the new one, and update it right
here.
>> Nice.
>> So, in a nutshell, that's basically it.
It has much more functionality that I
showed you today. So, to explore it, all
today's viewers and you you can go to
dever.com, find Entity Developer. It's
absolutely for free to test, to use it
as a trial.
Go ahead and test it. If you have any
questions, we are always welcome
questions. You can If it's sales-related
questions, you can send it to
sales@dever.com. If you would like to
get some technical assistance, technical
support, or you have just technical
questions, you can go to
support@dever.com.
And your ticket will get to the proper
technical support manager, and you will
get an answer. Or just keep it in the
chat, and we'll be able to answer after.
>> Right.
>> So, from my side, that's probably that's
it for today. And yeah.
>> I have a first question. It's kind of
random. It It popped in my head as I was
watching your Visual Studio demo.
And
I have to say I love Visual Studio. I'm
like most of the time I'm working in VS.
It's like tool of my choice. I feel I
feel kind of at home there.
But I know some people prefer using VS
Code or even a command line. Is there a
support, especially if you are doing uh
cross-platform development on Linux, for
example? Do you have support for
something like that?
>> Uh, it is possible to get, but it highly
depends on the use case. For Entity
Developer, you can use as a like
standalone application. It can be
installed like outside of Visual Code.
And you can use it. Uh and of course for
VS Code, it's also helpful, so
you can get it and talk to our tech guys
and go to
uh .NET basically providers and
resources, and you can find everything
that is related to the supported
platforms, what is supported, and
that's basically it.
>> Right. That brings the question from the
chat. I guess it's a question. I'm not
sure.
.NET 4.8.1.
I guess I'm guessing the question is
whether you support basically .NET
Framework.
>> Uh yes. So, give it a minute. I will
let me pick up this one. I will check
straight away.
Uh uh uh uh uh
Okay.
>> By the way, you are not sharing your
screen if you are.
>> No, I'm just uh trying to find it if
it's supported or not. So, on my screen
that was only the Entity Developer.
>> Got it. Got it.
>> Mhm.
Yes, it is supported.
>> Nice.
All right. Um
next question.
Are there
any community versions? I think you've
already said that you have 30-day
completely free trial.
>> Yep.
>> Anything else you would like to add to
that?
>> Um in this case,
uh
uh yeah, also my colleagues just
confirmed that like all the latest
versions are supported.
As that's for the previous question. Uh
as for the community versions, uh like
uh
in in this case, if you would like to
say on, but
uh for dotConnect, we have only trial.
We have community editions for like our
studios, but for dotConnect, we have
only free trial.
>> Mhm.
Awesome.
So, there's a comment, not a question,
uh but I think it's worth putting it on
screen.
Great. dotConnect is amazing.
I love to see that. I'm pretty sure you
as well. Absolutely.
Um
so
yeah, let me check. It's moving.
Right.
There's one question, um and I have a
follow-up question to that. On your
slide,
y- there was uh that the Devart
headquarters is in Prague, Czech
Republic.
Which actually kind of surprised me. I
had no idea because I'm based in Czech
Republic, not in Prague, but in Czech
Republic.
Um so, that was quite surprising. I had
no idea. Uh I'm absolutely happy to hear
that. But there's a question,
where is Devart originally from?
>> Ukraine.
>> Ukraine? Nice.
>> Yes.
Yeah, so like like most of like the core
team and like the most powerful office
we have had like our main office
located in Ukraine, but since all the
latest news, like parts of the team were
moved to Slovakia, Czech Republic. I'm
located in Spain currently, and part of
my team as well here with me. So,
part of the team work remotely, but we
have over like we almost like 300
plus
um
employees here at Devart. And we keep
growing.
>> Nice.
Um
there is another one.
Does DotConnect support vector searches?
>> Yes.
>> expand on that question and say what's
the situation around DotConnect and AI
in general? AI and databases.
>> Oh, yeah. AI is everywhere nowadays.
>> [laughter]
>> So
>> Yes.
>> And in this case, like DotConnect, it
was built to to get the connection. So
you don't need to write the code. So you
don't need to spend your time. You get
support. You get security.
You get
support from our technical team. And of
course, that's the product that
that will be supported. And I already
mentioned about like the the benefits of
using the DotConnect itself.
But about the AI, so we like working on
some AI.
For example, we've created an AI
assistant for our studios that going to
help you to work with databases. And but
as for DotConnect, currently there is no
support for any AI.
>> Okay.
>> But we're we're making something new and
soon, probably in the third quarter,
you'll get an announcement from our
team. So we're working hard on the new
project.
>> Okay, good. Good. Well, if
if
I'm pretty sure if it's
like Awesome. We will have you back.
>> It is definitely AI related. So
we'll keep you posted.
>> Okay.
Um
Yeah, guys.
Third quarter, we'll have another
stream. And we'll have a great product.
Another comment.
It's not a question, I guess. I'm
pleased to hear how many solutions are
coming from many different countries.
Great job.
I'm I'm always surprised.
Maybe just me um being from Europe,
Czech Republic, we think about like US
only. Like it's like the huge country
and everything comes from the US and
stuff like that. Uh but then you learn
that oh this product and that product
and this service is actually from random
country all over the place. So, this is
definitely great example.
And being on the market for that long
definitely
uh tells something. I remember
even with the first versions of Entity
Framework
guys, listeners, I'm not saying Entity
Framework Core, I mean the Entity
Framework, which is like 2007-2008
days, Devart was already existing at
that time and having ADO.NET providers
and stuff like that.
Right, we have one question.
No, we don't.
Um
Oh, we do. There is another one.
>> to my boss.
>> [laughter]
>> What [snorts] is the difference between
Oracle Data Provider for .NET and
dotConnect for Oracle?
>> So, in this case like I was mostly
focused on like Oracle our product is
called like dotConnect and that's like
reliable the framework for getting the
connection to
wait, I found another question to the
Oracle database.
So, and I found like a very nice
question how to
I lost it. Give me a second. How to tell
to my ah how to tell I say to my boss to
purchase dotConnect plus Entity
Developer. [laughter]
You can test. You can download it, show
them that it shows the value and of
course that it's useful and will speed
up your work significantly. And in in in
this case, you can see the difference
like look with these tools, I can do X
number of work more. So, I can like show
like 20, 30, 50% like more performance
that I'm currently doing right now. And
I'll be more happy like happy developer
>> [laughter]
>> happy so great solution.
Right.
>> Um okay, let's go back to the previous
question. What is the difference between
Oracle data provider for .NET and dot
net provider?
>> Yeah,
uh
Uh like as for this question, there are
some technical things, but overall,
that's the support and performance.
>> Okay.
>> difference that the support that we
provide and of course the performance
cuz it's been already tested and each
new release we are doing
QA sessions and we always work on the
best performance that it can do. So,
once you're gathering lots of data, you
will see the difference in performance.
>> Nice. So, we have another question. Can
I use this with mobile applications like
Android? I guess you already answered
that because you have a support for
Maui.
Um which obviously runs on .NET. So,
>> Yes.
>> that this Yeah, it's yes.
>> It is cross-platform.
>> I saw a question and then it scrolled.
So, I probably lost it. So, in the
meantime, I will ask another question.
Um
What security considerations do
developers need to be aware of? Because
you mentioned multiple times like the
security and support and stuff like
that. Can you expand a little bit on on
that topic?
>> Uh like in this case, that would
probably
would be mostly related to our tech guys
because in this area I'm not an expert,
so
I'll be glad to answer after the today's
standup. The benefits of of course we
can answer this question like straight
after the
developer.
>> Got it.
Maybe maybe related question
um
have you or you as a company, not you as
a person, tried like Copilot in in in
Visual Studio? Does it work with the
devart scenarios? Is it fine suggesting
code or suggesting fixes and stuff like
that?
>> Uh I didn't personally, but from what
I've heard it it is still much to be
desired and the Microsoft has still to
do some work in it.
It also like it shows good performance,
but not always and like since the AI is
still is still not like this is not the
Skynet right now.
>> [snorts]
>> Mhm.
>> It still needs to be polished. So you
need to write like the proper prompts
and the short one it shows
hallucinations working with the huge
amount of data, so in this case you
should be very careful.
Especially if you're working on the
production.
Cuz from what I've heard like the the
Amazon servers were like
were shut down for 30 hours recently
because an AI it decided to rebuild the
database the entire database from the
scratch and it did it and it's been down
for like 30 hours. It's a cool story
about like and after that they applied
the rule that uh
every like single chunk of code should
be reviewed and approved by senior
developers.
>> All right, there is a A
that might be important for everybody
who is listening and watching and even
for the recording, where can I follow
your QA sections?
I think the best way for some follow-up
questions and follow-up answers will be
uh on the in the comments section on
YouTube because YouTube uh recordings
are there basically forever.
Uh so if you are watching the recording
and you have a question or you're
looking for an answer that was like we
will do a follow-up, go
go to YouTube
and check the comments there. We will
make sure that everything uh extra is
posted in there.
And there is a uh it's maybe highly
technical and not really important, but
let's try anyway. Which technology
technology is used in your diagrams?
>> Uh the entity developer diagrams are not
based on DGML as
as is. Uh so it uses like own
proprietary diagramming engine and file
format.
>> Mhm.
Awesome. Awesome. So
>> designed for ERM modeling.
>> Okay. So
let's give a few minutes, well, like
minute or two for extra questions to
come up because the live stream has like
I don't know 10-20 second delay.
And
after that, it's basically it.
There is a comment that might be
related. I found Devart so interesting
that I recently installed it in Visual
Studio.
Glad to hear that. Uh but it's not free
and yet SQL which comes with Visual
Studio is free.
>> Yeah.
As I have already answered on this, so
basically that's we always provide a
support because like our tech team
they're always dealing with our
customers and they're always facing some
issues, problems with architecture when
they're building their apps and they
always need help and they can always
rely on our technical team that is
always ready. With the free product
that's the free product is it is not
providing any kind of support and it's
not that like reliable as our. Of course
we have a paid product but still that's
like the most
and
the most benefit comes with this. Since
once you have some issue, you need to
fix it as soon as possible, our guys are
on it.
>> Awesome.
So that should be it. I don't see any
more questions coming in.
Thank you for your presentation. It was
definitely awesome. I
I never I always knew about the DevArt
and the connectors and stuff like that
from like the history and stuff and also
because I'm writing a provider for
ADO.NET driver for Firebird
which is again a niche database let's
say or at least not the mainstream one.
Uh and I know that DevArt is also
covering
let's say not the mainstream ones, the
specific ones. So I always knew that
there is this company. It was definitely
nice to see the presentation, the
product. Um I can tell it's it's very
polished from the Visual Studio
presentation because as a
maybe like a professional
uh user of this product, I can spot
immediately if there is something like
not well done and this was this was
definitely
uh well polished um product and
dialogues and everything. It you can
definitely see that it's not something
that's been on the market for a year or
two
because the the small things like icons
and buttons and stuff like that need
some time to be polished and and all
these small details.
So, thank you for your presentation.
>> Thank you so much.
>> are more questions
feel free to send them uh either
directly to uh Def Art if you have some
specific question or go to the comments
in YouTube and uh you can either ask a
question or look search for answer for
something that was not answered on
stream because it was technical or
needed some extra details or anything
like that. Again, don't forget about the
build.
I can maybe play the promo because I
like it and I finally found it.
Uh so, if you want to have latest and
greatest and be the first one to uh know
about
what's happening
in the um in the .NET and around
Microsoft products. Um yeah,
registration's open. Go there and uh
register and visit build uh this year,
June 2nd to 3rd in San Francisco.
Awesome. No other questions are coming.
That's awesome. Thank you, Yuri. And
>> guys. If we missed anything, we'll
definitely review all the questions
after today's stream and you'll get your
answers. So, no worries and sorry if we
missed this.
Thank you, Yuri. It was my pleasure
talking to you today. Thank you for
inviting me.
>> Okay. Awesome. Uh thank you, guys, for
watching and we will be live again next
month.
Bye.
>> See you. Bye.
>> Hey.
