NEW! AI Document Conversion with ChatGPT MCP | Convert InDesign, Microsoft Publisher & QuarkXPress
What happens when ChatGPT can directly access a professional desktop publishing conversion engine?
In this video I demonstrate the brand-new OmniMarkz MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server for both OmniMarkz SE (Windows) and OmniMarkz (macOS).
Instead of simply chatting with AI, ChatGPT, Claude Desktop and Cursor can now interact directly with the OmniMarkz conversion engine to convert, inspect and analyze professional DTP files.
That means you can:
✅ Convert Microsoft Publisher files
✅ Convert Adobe InDesign files
✅ Export IDML automatically
✅ Open legacy documents in Affinity Publisher
✅ Generate document inventories
✅ Create detailed file summaries
✅ Inspect fonts, images and links
✅ Use AI to understand complex publishing files
During this walkthrough I show:
• Installing the OmniMarkz MCP Server
• Connecting ChatGPT Desktop
• Troubleshooting MCP installation
• Restarting ChatGPT correctly
• Verifying installed MCP servers
• Converting Microsoft Publisher files to IDML
• Converting Adobe InDesign documents
• Creating AI-generated inventory reports
• Reviewing fonts, linked graphics and document structure
• Using ChatGPT as a publishing assistant
One of the most exciting demonstrations is how ChatGPT doesn't simply convert a document—it can also explain what is inside the file, summarize its contents and generate an inventory report that includes page structure, fonts, linked graphics, metadata and much more.
This becomes especially valuable for:
• Graphic designers
• Print production departments
• Publishers
• Marketing teams
• Documentation teams
• Prepress professionals
• Creative agencies
• Anyone migrating away from Microsoft Publisher
With Microsoft Publisher being discontinued, organizations increasingly need reliable migration workflows to Adobe InDesign, Affinity Publisher, Canva and other professional publishing environments. This video demonstrates how AI can become part of that workflow.

NEW OmniMarkz MCP server and more!
Closed Caption:
So this is the new MCP server in OmniMarkz SE in
this case. Also available in the OmniMarkz Mac OS
version. This MCP OmniMarkz SE or OmniMarkz Mac OS
uh linkage will allow you to use your chat GDP or
Claude and other GPTs to query your document
but more importantly to also do conversion
right in your familiar chat GTP interface. So
now when you drop an InDesign or a Publisher
or a QuarkXpress file on chatGTP for instance
it'll instantly be able to do something with it.
This is the power of OmniMarkz so you
get linkage not only to mcp server
for doing conversions through your AI
workflows but also you get uh direct
batch conversion via the new conversion center.
Okay, we're going to launch OmniMarkz SE. The
latest version doesn't only have the conversion
center but also linkage to an MCP server.
This will allow you to use OmniMarkz
within ChatGPT or claude etc.
So now when we open OmniMarkz
we get the conversion center and we get
the normal one-off um interface over here.
And this the conversion center where you can find
all of your DTP files and convert them all at
once even if needed. Be careful with that though.
Generally you want to do conversions one at a time
to check things over. Depends on your file types
and depends on why you're doing the conversion.
So under the settings which will be under file
settings in OmniMarkz you'll see a new tab called
MCP. It'll have the three supported out of the
box. Cursor, Claude desktop and chatGTP desktop.
If we click down, we can see how we do that. We
install ChatGPT Desktop MCP here on the Windows.
Same applies on the Macintosh. I take
screenshots because if there's any problems,
ChatGPt can help you uh with the installation,
right? If and when needed. And we hit save.
And now it should be installed. The
only thing we should do is restart
uh chatGPT. Okay, so we got a little
bit of help. What we need to do,
that's why I take the screenshots.
Quit chatGPT. We're going to quit
OmniMarkz. And we're going to start
them all up again. Can ask which
Windows
system. Just to be more specific, it's going
to ask you to continue with work. We do that.
Work codex is now all installed in one
chatGTP app, which is a lot handier.
they got the marks conversion and the uh
node reply. All looks good. So now we can do
just in our familiar uh chatgpt interface,
we can drop a file like this publisher file.
We just drop it in there and we say
convert with OmniMarkz MCP to IDML.
We need to allow once or allow
this entire conversation.
Could also click always allow
which I'm going to do now.
We're going to always allow.
You
see how chatgpt and claude and the rest will go
a step further and help you really understand
the conversion process.
There we go. We got the IDML. We can
now open that in this publisher file,
Microsoft Publisher, which is being discontinued.
We can now open it in affinity or in indesign.
So, let's take another file here. We'll
drop it on indesign file. We'll say
convert to IDML with OmniMarkz.
Awesome.
So now I can download IDML and open this
indesign file in affinity for instance.
But you can also ask questions. Tell me
more about the about this converted file
like a
file inventory.
Now look at that. We got
a complete file inventory.
So we get a conversion assessment. The core
structure converted cleanly. Page geometry,
text stories, textile and graphic frames colors
and external link metadata are all present.
This was originally a Mac file. So
it's important to understand because
if there are any issues, you
want to be able to tackle them.
So I recommend such a um file inventory and
summary report with every converted file.
Once again, depending on your workflow
and um the type of jobs you're converting,
we get all of the information. This is
a relatively small file. You can see the
size. It was an internet um online
file and you get all the particulars
including what uh the content is and what
the linked images are and the fonts used.
So pretty amazing. So isn't that amazing?
Check it out today over on markzware.com.
I'll put the link below to the exact location of
OmniMarkz SE. It's a very powerful way to convert
your Microsoft Publisher files to Affinity or
InDesign or even to Canva or to convert your
Inesign files to other formats like Affinity or to
convert QuarkXpress which is very popular still to
this day being converted to InDesign. We offer
all levels of conversion for professional DTPers
and those on the more document level
marketing and documentation departments.
So once again, check it out over on markzware.com.
Very exciting news, the new conversion center
NMCP server connection in OmniMarkz SE
