There is a feature that's called
Background Removal that will make
it possible to remove the background in a
video clip without the use of a green screen.
I know many of you like to fly around and film
with your drones, and you do that often with high
confidence. But when it comes to editing,
the business is a little bit more shaky.
This is why I have something very exciting to
show you today: the Movavi Video Editor 2023.
The video editor is so simple. You don't need
any professional experience to work with video,
and you can still create stunning results.
This is not a free piece of software, and if
you decide to buy the software through my link in
the description below, you will get an additional
20% discount, and you get a free gift, a set of
My Channel Pack Effects, on top of that as well.
And if you don't like that, you can actually
get the Movavi Video Editor on a subscription
plan as well, if that is something that you
prefer. So, this is a win-win, if you ask me.
Editing video can be complicated, and the learning
curve is pretty steep. And this is probably the
reason why so many of you are holding back from
sharing what you have captured with your drones.
But what Movavi has done is to simplify the user
interface and the workflow, while still giving you
access to some premium features that are normally
only reserved for more expensive editing software.
This means that you won't have to invest a
lot of time in learning complex software,
fiddling with settings, and
watching endless YouTube tutorials.
With the 2023 version of the Movavi Video Editor,
you are getting access to some pretty hefty
features supported by AI. For instance,
you can replace the background in your
video without the use of a green screen,
or you can remove unwanted sounds from your
audio track just by the use of a single button.
The interface is available in all
the major international languages,
which makes it very, very easy for you
to get started if you're not a native
English speaker. The software is also
available for both Windows and Mac.
Let's start with the interface.
That's really easy to understand.
On the left side, we have the main
menu that includes File Import.
There's a section for music. There's a section for
titles and overlays, a section for transitions,
and there's an Effects and Filters section that
will allow you to add different filters to your
footage. And there's a section with some fun
stickers that you can use to spice up your edit.
Under the More Tools option, this
is where all the powerful stuff
is hidden that will help you enhance your footage.
Let's start by importing some footage so I can
show you some of the features
that you're getting access to.
We do that by going to the File Import menu here,
and then we press Add Files. Then we simply locate
the files that we need to get imported. We select
those and add them to the Project Files library.
I could also choose to drag and drop the files
into the interface. That would work equally well.
Under Project Files, you will now have access to
the video clips that we have just imported. On
the right side, there's a preview window.
Just click on one of the imported clips,
and it will automatically play back.
You might notice that the resolution
in the preview is not that impressive,
and this is because it's set
to low resolution by default.
I can switch that into high resolution,
so you can see now the image got sharper. But that
would also put additional stress on your computer,
especially when you're playing with
multiple effects and stuff like that.
You might want to dim it down
to the low-resolution preview,
but know that this will not affect the
final output when you render the video.
The lower part of the interface consists of
the timeline that's neatly organized with
three default tracks: one for text,
one for video, and one for music.
Adding a video to the timeline is really easy.
You can either drag it in or simply double-tap
the clip, and it will automatically
jump to the beginning of the timeline.
You can add more tracks if you like, and you can
actually also disable them temporarily if you
need to do that. You can stretch or compress the
timeline for better visuals of what you're doing.
You have a toolbar on top of the timeline
that will allow you very easily to modify
the clip. You could decide to rotate your footage,
which we don't need to do in this case, and
you could decide to crop in if you want.
Let's say you want a closer view of the
car here. We can just crop in the footage,
especially if it's shot in a high resolution.
That would be a good option. So, if I do that,
you'll see now I get a much
closer look at the footage.
Let's say you're not producing videos
for YouTube, but maybe for Instagram,
and you want to be able to do vertical
videos. You can simply change the aspect
ratio through the drop-down menu that's
located here below the preview window.
So, if I just select 9:16, I will
get the vertical format, and I would,
of course, need to scale the footage
accordingly. But that's a nice option,
that you can change this
directly within the interface.
You have the option to cut the video. You simply
do that by placing the playhead, which is this
red vertical line, where you want the cut.
Then you simply press the scissors here,
and the clip will be divided into two.
You can remove footage that you don't want in your
timeline by simply marking the part that you want
to get rid of, pressing the Trash Can icon,
or using the Delete button on your keyboard.
And for the more advanced users that want
to do some color adjustment of the footage,
there's an option for that as well.
Here you will have access to some Auto settings
that will be automatically applied to your
footage, or you can simply switch it into Manual
mode, where you can do the adjustment by yourself.
Now, let's go through the options
in the main menu on the left.
In the Import menu, as you
saw, you can import files,
but you can also add a whole folder if you want.
You simply go through the Finder here, and then
you select a folder. Let's just pick the drone
here, and then you drag that folder directly into
the interface, and the footage will be imported.
Then it automatically jumps to Project Files,
which is the media bin that contains all
the footage that you have imported for
the project, as well as sample videos,
intro videos, and backgrounds that you
could all use to spice up your edit.
Below the Import section, you
will find the Audio Library that
contains a selection of sound effects and music.
You might need to download them to
be able to use them in your video,
but there is enough to get you
started, which is super nice,
so you don't need to worry about copyright
issues when you are editing your videos.
To add a piece of music to the timeline,
you simply drag it into the
timeline, and then you position it.
Maybe you don't want the beginning of the music
track. Then you can simply place the playhead,
which is the red vertical line here.
You can place that in the position here,
select the clip, press the cutting tool,
and then you can remove the part that you
don't want simply by pressing the Trash Can
or using the Delete button on your keyboard.
Then you can reposition the soundtrack
where you want it in comparison to
the video clip. Let's just try it.
[Music]
If you think the audio level on the
track that you just added is too high,
you can simply select it, and then you can
pull down this line here to reduce the output.
Let's add some text, and we can
do that through the Titles menu.
As you can see, there's quite a few to choose
from, and some of them are actually animated. So,
if you just press them, they will
play back through the preview window,
so you get a feeling of what it would look like.
To add a text, we simply drag it into the timeline
like this. After that, you can
simply double-click the title.
Then you get access to the Clip Properties,
where you can change the text and the fonts.
You can change the text directly in the preview
by simply double-tapping the
text here. And if I just say:
Like this, and go down, and
I want this to say Video
Editor. See, I can do it
all very simple like that.
But if I want to change the color, for instance,
to better suit my needs, I
would need to do something else.
So, I would need to highlight the title. I would
take this Video Editor part, and then I will go
here under the Clip Properties and maybe change
this to red, so then it would suit my needs.
You just play it back here, so
you can see the final result.
So, in this way, I've customized
a title for my video clip. There's
quite a few titles available. Some of them
are static, and some of them are animated.
This is a nice asset and will definitely, if used
in the right way, add a nice touch to your video.
You likely want to have more clips in your edit,
so why not add a nice transition between them?
Let's start by adding another clip from
the Project Files selection, and we simply
select the clip, and then we drag it into our
timeline and put it next to the first clip.
Adding a transition can be done from the
Transitions menu. And as you can see here,
there are a lot of options available here too. You
can preview the transition by simply clicking it.
These are some pretty fancy ones. Let's
pick one that's a little bit more subtle,
like Fade to Black.
I simply drag it and drop it in the
intersection between the two clips,
and now I have a transition.
Let's just play it so you can see what's going on.
You see, now it fades out, and it fades in
again. Very, very nice and subtle transition.
No doubt, transitions are super cool,
but don't overdo it. Just because you can put
in a transition does not mean that you have to.
You can adjust the properties of the transition
by simply double-clicking it. This will give
you access to the Transition Properties, where you
can also adjust the properties for the transition.
If you just want to change the
duration of the transition,
you could do that directly on the timeline
by stretching it or compressing it.
The next option is the Effects menu.
Here, you have access to filters,
which are quite useful when
it comes to video editing.
You have all the filters
nicely organized in categories,
making it easy to locate whatever it is
that you're looking for. And you can put
these filters into your videos to
give them a nice look and feel.
Let me just show you. Let's pick
one of the light leaks here.
We just add that and drop it onto the frame
that we want to apply it to. Then you can see
at the edge of the screen that we will
now have light leaking into our frame.
What you also would see is that you will get
sort of an FX icon down here on the clip where
you have applied the filter. And it says FX1,
meaning that we have applied one filter option.
You can add multiple filters
on the same clip. Let's just
try that and pick one that's a little bit extreme.
Let's take the Glass Mosaic. We just
drag that onto the clip and drop it,
and now you can see it
changes the footage instantly.
And you also notice that the number FX has
increased to two. And if I double-click that one,
I can see what effects have been
applied to this specific clip.
From within here, I can basically change
sort of the intensity of each filter. I
can temporarily disable it, and I can
even remove it if I don't want it.
This gives you very easy control over the filters
that have been applied to each individual clip.
From the Effects menu, you also have
access to all the effects. Let's just
take this fluttering flush and then drop that
on top of our footage, and then you can see.
It's like an overlay effect, like we are looking
through some blinds while watching the video. So,
there's some funny ones that
you can play around with there.
You even have access to LUTs,
which is short for lookup tables,
that will allow you to color-grade
and color-correct your footage.
If your drone camera contains a
flat color profile that will help
it preserve as much information
as possible in the footage,
the manufacturer will often provide you with
a LUT that will bring the footage back to
normal and not flat and desaturated, as
it would look directly off the camera.
Maybe you're editing for social
media and want to add some fun
to your footage by adding some stickers.
You can do that from the Elements menu.
And you can see it has a lot of things to
choose from. Let's use this OMG sticker,
and I simply drag that into the timeline
here, and I position it like this.
Because the drone was passing
behind the wind turbine here,
maybe it would make sense to have,
like, an OMG, yeah, in the footage.
This is just an example, just
to show you what's possible.
There's also the option to add callouts
and frames to your footage. Let's just
add this stripe frame here to the
section where we have the drone.
Just put it like this, and then
I can move it on top of the clip,
and I can shorten it so it
fits the duration of the clip.
So, see, when I play it back, first we have
the nice transition from before. Then we are
getting into the clip with the drone that's
nicely framed by the frame that we just added.
It might not be the prettiest you have
seen in your whole life, but at least it
shows you the functionality. And because it's
layered on top of the original video track,
you can position it at any location
that you want for an instant effect.
Moving on to More Tools, you have access
to some pretty powerful adjustment tools.
The More Tools are divided into two main
categories, one for video and one for audio.
This is where you have some pretty
powerful tools that will help do
wonders to your footage. Let me
just show you a few examples.
Let's say that you have recorded a video clip with
too much wind noise that you want
to take care of, like this one:
Flight video, and as you can see here, it is
insanely windy today, so this is the
perfect condition for test flying.
In the More Tools options, under Audio,
there's something called Noise Removal. Here,
you simply select Artificial
Intelligence and press Apply.
Then it will denoise the
clip that you have selected.
After some processing, the
audio will sound like this:
Welcome to my DJI Air 3 first flight
video, and as you can see here,
it is insanely windy today, so this is
the perfect condition for test flying.
Apart from all the usual stuff that will allow
you to modify the footage, like color adjustments,
crop and rotate, positioning, pan
and zoom, stabilization, animation,
highlight and conceal, chroma
key, scene detection, logo,
and slow motion, there is a feature that's
called Background Removal that will make
it possible to remove the background in a
video clip without the use of a green screen.
Normally, this requires a green screen, but with
AI, it's possible without. Let's just try that.
I select a clip, and then I go onto the menu here,
and then I select Precise. I want it as
good as possible, and then I press Remove.
Now you can see the background has been removed,
and we can replace it with something else.
Let's just grab this clip, shorten it a bit,
and then just throw it on top of the
drone clip that we had just here before.
[Laughter]
We can turn down the audio of
the drone a little bit here.
So, if I don't want to stand in the middle of
the frame, I can simply highlight the clip here,
and then I can go and press Position.
And it needs to work a little bit.
Yeah, ah, a bit tough on the computer.
So, I can move myself here to the side
of it. Yeah, sort of the prop here.
So, if I play it back now, which I
probably can't because my computer is
struggling a little bit doing this,
let's just see what happens here.
So, see, now I'm standing next to the
drone, speaking with the background
removed. The playback is not super smooth, as it
requires a lot of the computer to process this.
So, my computer really
struggled playing this back,
but that doesn't affect the
final output of the video file.
So, if I just play that one here, you
can see that it renders pretty smoothly.
[Laughter]
My Mac computer did struggle a lot
playing back video with multiple
layers. But as you can see here on the
final edit that has been rendered out,
there's absolutely no problem
playing back clips like this.
Now it's time to render the final video,
and you do that by pressing Export.
Here, you have a chance to add some
final settings to your video edit.
You can give it a name. Let's just call
it Demo. You can select the destination.
You can select the quality. You can change
the resolution, as well as the frame rate.
And at the bottom here, you have
an estimation of the file size
that will depend on the quality
settings that you have selected.
Talking about export options, something that
will speed up your workflow tremendously
is that you can upload directly to the
social media platform that you're using.
And in this case, you will have access to YouTube,
Google Drive, Vimeo, and you can
also upload directly to TikTok.
But for the sake of this video,
let's just render a file.
I press Start,
and then it will start to do its thing and save
the file to the destination that you have chosen.
It takes a little time, and of course, it
depends on the computer that you're using.
[Music]
And now it says Open the Output Folder.
So, now I have my little demo
movie that I can play back.
If you want to save your work and
maybe continue to work on it later,
I would recommend that you go onto the File
section up here, and you save the project as
Demo, or whatever name that you
want to give it, and then save it.
Because then, next time
that you open the software,
you will be able to launch this project,
and everything is exactly where you left it.
So, this was my review of
the Movavi Video Editor 2023.
If you decide to purchase the software,
you will get an additional 20% discount,
and you will get a free set of My
