Browser-style document tabs for Word, Excel, Access, Project, Visio and more

Office Tab Pro: Document Tabs for Word, Excel, Access, Project, Visio and More

Office Tab Pro, formerly Office Tab Enterprise, is a $59 one-time-purchase Windows add-in from ExtendOffice that adds browser-style tabs to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Project and Visio, for people who work across the wider Office family.

If your day involves a Project plan, a Visio diagram and a few Access databases as well as the usual documents, each one normally opens its own window. Pro gives all of those programs the same tab bar.

Overview

Office Tab Pro is the larger edition of Office Tab. ExtendOffice renamed it from Office Tab Enterprise, and it replaces the old separate products such as Tabs for Project, Tabs for Visio, Tabs for Access and Tabs for Publisher, which are no longer sold on their own.

It installs a tab bar under the ribbon of each supported program, and an Office Tab ribbon tab for settings. Each program keeps its own tab bar, so Project files stay with Project and Visio drawings with Visio.

Features

Tabs in Project, Visio, Access and Publisher

Office Tab Pro extends tabbed documents to the four programs the standard edition leaves out. This is the only reason to choose Pro, and for people who use those programs it's a good one.

Open files as tabs in one window

Office Tab Pro puts every open document on a tab bar in a single window, like a web browser. You switch with a click or with Alt + N, and drag tabs to reorder them.

Save or close everything at once

Office Tab Pro adds Save All and Close All commands to the tab menu, so ending the day doesn't mean a dozen separate prompts. You can also rename a file right from its tab, without the Save As dialog.

Group documents by project

Office Tab Pro lets you collect files into groups, then open, save or close a whole group together. That's handy when a job always involves the same five files.

Make the tabs look the way you want

Office Tab Pro offers new and classic tab styles, color-coded tabs, custom fonts, and fixed, adaptive or automatic tab lengths. The newer layout shows two lines of text, so long file names stay readable.

Put the tab bar anywhere

Office Tab Pro can place the bar at the top, bottom, left or right of the window, and hide or show it with a shortcut, which defaults to Win + Q. Other shortcuts can be changed too.

Benefits

You get one way of working across seven programs. Project managers and engineers often have far more windows open than the average office worker, so a named tab per file makes a bigger difference to them.

Access users gain the most from Close All and groups, since moving between several open databases normally means separate windows with similar titles.

Real-World Uses

  • Programme management: several Project plans on tabs, with a group for each client.
  • Engineering: a set of Visio diagrams grouped with the Word specification.
  • Database work: flip between a live Access database and a test copy.
  • Marketing: keep a Publisher newsletter next to its source documents.

Who It's For, and Who Should Skip It

Office Tab Pro suits project managers, engineers, database users and anyone with Project, Visio, Access or Publisher open most days on Windows.

Skip it if you only use Word, Excel and PowerPoint: the $39 standard Office Tab has everything you need. Skip it on a Mac, where it doesn't run. Microsoft ended support for Publisher in October 2026, so don't buy Pro for Publisher alone.

Usage Guide

  1. Close your Office programs and run the installer.
  2. Open Project, Visio or another supported program. Files now open as tabs in the same window.
  3. Right-click a tab to find Save All, Close All, Rename and tab colors.
  4. Open the Office Tab ribbon tab to change the style, position and shortcuts.
  5. To update later, uninstall the old version from the Control Panel first, then install the new one.

Before you buy

  • Old Enterprise users: this is the same product line under a new name. Check your update coverage with ExtendOffice before buying again.
  • Lifetime means the version you have. Updates and support stop after two years unless you renew at a discount. Since new Office builds can break add-ins, consider renewing if you're on Microsoft 365.
  • No free edition. Older listings mention one, but ExtendOffice now offers only the 30-day trial.

Where it falls short

  • Office updates can break it. ExtendOffice's own notes for version 16.00 say a Microsoft Office upgrade had disabled the Word tab feature until that release fixed it. That's the risk with any add-in, and it's a good reason to keep update coverage current.
  • Occasional crashes are a documented issue. ExtendOffice keeps a support page on Office crashes linked to tabbed windows. Its advice is to update Office Tab, disable other add-ins and check any desktop-management tools, which can conflict with it.
  • Small quirks exist. See the Visual Basic Editor taskbar snag in the user comments below, which matters mainly to people who write macros.
  • The screenshots lag behind the product. Much of the vendor's gallery still shows an older Office look, so the trial is the better preview.

What Users Say

Reviews rarely cover the Pro edition's extra programs, so the comments below are about Office Tab generally. The tab features are the same in both editions.

Trustpilot

Trustpilot, ExtendOffice company page: 4.3 out of 5 from 8 reviews when we looked on November 6, 2026. That's a small sample, and it covers the company rather than this one product.

Vaibhav, "I have been using ExtendOffice tools", 5 stars, August 5, 2026, on Office Tab: "Excellent software and great customer service." He mentions a discount and help getting a new license key after reformatting.

Jesse Crenshaw, 5 stars, May 7, 2026, a retired banking analyst, has bought Office Tab products alongside Kutools and praises the no-subscription pricing and the support team.

Terry Bradley, 1 star, July 16, 2022, on recovering licenses after a machine failure: "It is a long and drawn out and impossible process to try and retrieve your very long serial code." He adds "I regret having purchased." ExtendOffice answered in May 2026 with an apology.

Microsoft Tech Community forum

Charles_Kenyon, January 18, 2023, answering a question about whether Office Tab is safe: "Like all third-party tools, it could break when Word is updated." He later adds: "It works in my installation and they offer a free trial."

He also reports one snag: "One minor drawback I have noticed involves use of the visual basic editor". With the add-in installed, clicking the editor on the taskbar takes you to the document instead, so "You must use Alt+F11 to switch to the vbe even if already open." His view: "For most users, this would not even be noticed."

AlternativeTo

Shoji VR, January 17, 2018: "Each document appears as a new tab in a tabbed window (not a new window) and can be accessed in one click."

A user writing on April 7, 2015: "I like this BUT the description says it is Free for personal use. It's not." Today ExtendOffice offers a trial, not a free edition.

Customers quoted by ExtendOffice

George: "Ku Tools for Word, Ku Tools for Excel, and Office Tabs are the very best tools in my software library. I use them every single day". ExtendOffice shows this on its own site, so treat it as hand-picked.

The pattern: people who install it tend to keep it for years, and the complaints are about licensing and small side effects, not the tabs themselves.

Comparisons

Office Tab Pro vs Office Tab

Pro costs $20 more and adds Publisher, Access, Project and Visio. If you never open those, the standard edition is the better buy.

Office Tab Pro vs Kutools for Office

Kutools for Office costs $129 and includes Office Tab Pro plus the Kutools add-ins for Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. It's the better deal only if you want those tools as well as tabs.

Conclusion

Office Tab Pro is worth $59 if you work in Project, Visio or Access most days. Office itself doesn't give those programs tabs, and the 30-day trial shows quickly whether it suits your files.
