. com today I'm going to show you a very
quick and easy way that you can extract
pages from a PDF or split a PDF up just
using the preview program that comes
with your map
previews the application that you get
when you double-click on a PDF that's
preview and full disclosure this tip is
completely ripped off from a Smith over

ok so you can see that we have a PDF up
here and you can see that i scroll down
you can see I've got a bunch of pages
and what we want to do is we want to
split it out
so the first thing we want to do is go
up here and click on this button here
that's the button that's going to show
the thumbnails if you have an older
version of mac OS 10 it might just be
one button that says sidebar
but what we want to do is we want to
click this one if you're online and you
can see over on the left hand side it
will probably the right hand side if
you're on snow leopard earlier you can
see little thumbnails of each page
so let's say all we want is this page
here
all we need to do is highlight it and
then copy it either by going up here and
going
edit copy or I could just hit command C
as well and now we've copied the page
and all we need to do is go up to file
and then new from clipboard or command +
and you can see it's created a brand new
PDF just with that one page that we've
selected so it's a really easy way to
extract a single page or out of a PDF
but what if it's multiple pages I'm just
going to close this down
no I don't want to save it let's say we
wanted this page and if I hold down the
command key i can click here and now
we've selected the first two and let's
say we want the last this page as well
so i'm going to hold i'm still holding
down the command key and i'm going to
click here so we've highlighted page 12
and seven
so same thing if we go command C to copy
and then command and to create a new PDF
you can see we've got a three page
PDF just with page 1 page 2 and this
page 7 that we had selected earlier
again i'm going to close this down and
then from there if we wanted to split
this PDF
all we need to do is hit the i'm not
going to do it here but just hit the
Delete key and it will remove those
pages once we've created our new PDF it
will remove pages from that from the
original if you want to highlight a
series of pages that are together
all you need to do is highlight the
first one and say we want these four
pages here so we've highlighted the
first one go down to the fourth one hold
down the shift key and then click and
you can see we've got just those four
pages highlighted and again command C to
copy command and for a new for a new PDF
and we have those four pages all
together
so that's how you can use preview to
very quickly split out and extract pages
from a PDF form or going paperless tips
