Starship Act 1 Part 9

Bug forsakes the Hive and leaves it forever in favor of meeting the mysterious Pincer, a bug who lives outside the Hive, deep in his own hole in the ground. But who is Pincer? Friend or foe? Are his intentions as noble as they seem, or is Pincer about to put a twist into this plot? In any case, it's time to Kick It Up a Notch!

NEATO: *cackling*
Yo, boss!
VEETO: We got him! I mean, uh... look who decided to drop by
It's Bug, you know, the little starship ranger.
*growling*
PINCER: Do my eyes deceive me?
It can't be THE BUG? My good sir, might I shake your claw?
BUG: *screams*
PINCER: Oh P-p-pardon me. Sometimes I forget myself
and how terribly sharp I am. AHAHAHA!
Oh, but you have nothing to fear of me, Bug.
I'm Pincer, and might I say, I'm your biggest fan.
*laughing*
BUG: Wait, wait. YOU know who I am?
PINCER: Oh, yes. I've had my boys keeping a close eye on you for quite some time.
You see, Bug, I have a soft spot in my exoskeleton
For bugs who, like myself, can appreciate something bigger and grander than their job.
Or the hive. Or even this entire planet.
Something like the humans, for example.
BUG: You know about the humans?
PINCER: Oh Bug, I adore humans.
Why, I remember 18 years ago when that first starship crashed here.
BUG: Oh, I know where that starship is! I used to go there all the time!
PINCER: So did I.
Did you know there were survivors from that crash?
BUG: There were? Where are they?
PINCER: I said were. They're quite dead now.
You see, Bug, our planet is home to some very large predators
who wouldn't mind turning any human that they come across into a delectable-- *hbrrhbrrhbr*
mouthwatering-- snack!
BUG: *nervous laugh*
Who would want to eat a human?
PINCER: Yes! Who indeed? AHAHAHA!
Oh, but if only I had known their language, I could have shown them how to survive.
Perhaps, we could have even been friends.
BUG: Hey, Pincer. I know their language.
PINCER: GET. OUT. You do?
BUG: I sure do!
Maybe, I could talk to these humans, and they could be our friends.
PINCER: Pinch me, boys, I think I'm dreaming!
*hbrrbrr hbrrbrrbrrbrr*
Oh, I sure am hoping, but do you think they'll trust you?
BUG: Well, one human already does.
Oh, and she's something else.
PINCER: Oh, Bug! She? Tell me all about her.
BUG: Well, um
Her name is February and she's really nice, and funny--
PINCER: But is she pretty?
BUG: Is she ever!
PINCER: And smart?
BUG: She's a shy-entist!
PINCER: Oh, I'd love to have her for dinner! AHAHAHA!
And pick her brain! AHAHAHA!
VEETO: Yeah! Then, we'll suck her blood!
PINCER: Quiet, you.
VEETO: Ooh, oh, yeah. Sorry... right
BUG: Oh, but there's one problem.
She thinks I'm a starship ranger.
PINCER: Oh. Oh my. I suppose we're in a pickle then, aren't we?
Oh, wait I've got an idea!
Oh no, no, that probably wouldn't work...
BUG: Wait, wait, was is it?
PINCER: Oh, it's stupid. If I tell you, you'll think I'm stupid, and then I'll be embarrassed.
BUG: Oh, Pincer.
You don't have to be embarrassed in front of me!
We're friends.
PINCER: Oh, alright...
Bring 'em out, boys!
You see Bug, I have my own collection of curiosities that I've gathered over the years.
Well, this fella over here is called a "brain leech."
And it produces the most unique spore on its back.
Now, if I take one of these little treasures and place it on the brain stem of one organism,
and then do so with another,
the two creatures become psychically linked.
A sort of mind meld, if you will.
Oh, yes, and this over here, which I recovered from our crashed starship,
is called a cryotube.
It is used to cryogenically freeze humans during space travel.
Unfortunately for the poor chap inside the tube, a malfunction has left him quite brain-dead.
And, yet, his body is still very much alive.
Now, let's see, I've got the leech. I've got the body,
and I've got you.
(singing) Put 'em together and what have you got?
BUG: What?
PINCER: Oh, my dear Bug
