Backup and Restore Outlook pst files CompRx 402-706-1718

In this tutorial, we discuss backing up and restoring outlook email files (.pst files) without running outlook to find the files.
I will show you where to find the original files on both a vista and XP hard drive. and then show you step by step how to restore them into outlook.

okay in today's tutorial we're gonna go
ahead and cover
how to recover Outlook files when
switching computers so if you have a
computer that died
or you just bought a new one for the
record it or
any thing really peaceful a backup this
is a good way to do it you don't have to
use the backup feature with an outlook
because
kinda is but not its redundant it just
makes
duplicate up the same files so what
we're gonna do
is we will go ahead and
locate where outlook stores its files
store them in slightly different places
if its Vista or XP the year on
I'm going to be doing this from %uh
Vista computer
but I'm going to pull files from it XP
computer
and %uh Vista computer well I'm on this
computer the
process is the same whether you using XP
or Vista is just whether at
it so the first thing your gonna do
is your gonna go into your control panel
open up shoulder options
they will click on view and what we want
to do is we want to get to the point
that
rate your sis hidden files and folders
you wanna show hidden files and folders
you want to uncheck hide extensions for
known file types
also on unchecked protect hi protected
operating system files
its gonna ask if you're sure here on
this they might ask you
sure more than once what I said okay
going to minimize that cuz I'm gonna
wanna put that back when I'm done
and then the first or going to do it on
is the
just a hard drive so open up computer
and we'll go on to that this is hard
drive
and here's one of the only places it
differs
it's gonna be a different spot on tests
or go under users
then when I click on the username of the
person
who's out well your bare backing up a
net comp rx on this for
the new double click on app data
see this is hidden why we had to go into
the control panel
then a double click on local go down to
Microsoft
double click on that you want to open up
outlook and there they are these are the
two files we need
so you a copy those two files to
wherever you want wattage
desktop removable drive anything that
you want to go ahead and copy these
files
and then we're going to restore them in
a moment but first I'm gonna show you
how to do this on an XP hard drive as
well so we close this
and then we're going to do the same
thing where you don't text yeutter
open up the XP hard drive and then hears
that abusers were going to open up
documents and settings
again the same thing really going to the
user name which is administrator on the
next week
pewter and we're gonna open up local
settings
application data
Microsoft and
outlook and here they are same thing
copy these files as you would need
and then what their copied we're going
to go ahead and restore them into
Outlook

open them into so
open up Outlook go
then you would go to File import and
export
ill bring up this dialogue and we want
to open a file from another program or
file
so that next the issue with a different
kind
files a stroll down you want click on
personal
folder file PST it next
and then you wanna browse for the file
and out here it's already getting over
my files are at but then you just
double-click on the file that you wanna
import
and it will start important for your
once you hit next and
when is done it will be as if you were
on the same outlook file you were before
you may have to do with more than one
out file depending on how many folders
and what
what have you have set up that's
essentially it that is how you do it
I'm gonna go ahead and leave the exact
file name: paths
for a where to navigate to to find those
files
in the comments and that way you open up
any folder
LCD address bar here yes is the file
path that this exact spot
and I'm gonna leave them in the comments
how to get to those files
so that you could just pasted into the
address bar
or you could space it into a Internet
Explorer address for either way
but that should be helpful for you so
