Recover a LOST password for a Outlook Data File (PST)

I used the Passware Forensic Kit in this demo but they do have cheaper suites to get the PST file reset. These product sutes vary greatly in capability and price.

hey guys and welcome to a new video from
supertech boy calm so have you ever run
into this problem where a user has set a
password on outlook data file and
perhaps they go on vacation or they for
whatever reason they just can't remember
what that password is they open up
outlook and in our case we have a lot of
2013 they get this password prompt they
have no idea what it is
password you have typed is incorrect hit
cancel tell them they can open their
default folders and hit OK and they are
locked out now if you run into that
problem there is a great tool that I use
called password kit and in this
particular demo we're going to be using
password kit forensic which is their top
tier top-level program this will
actually crack hundreds of different
passwords but they do have just a
version just for outlook or outlook key
so if you don't need the full version or
you don't want to pay that price there
is a much cheaper version so let's go
ahead and try them on my lab pc right
here and I've just for the sake of
simplicity i've just installed password
kit directly onto this machine but you
can have this on administrative work
station you would just need to get a
copy of that PST file to wherever you
have password kit installed so let's go
ahead and open it takes a few seconds to
open
and we're going to go down and click on
internet and network which is right down
here and from there i'm going to click
on where it says microsoft outlook data
file and you can see it says recover a
password for microsoft outlook data file
or PST file and then i'm going to click
on this link that says browse for a
protected PST file and this is already
in my location this is under you know my
particular instance this is under my
documents out of files folder and this
is my outlook PST default file my god
which God created when I created the
profile let me go ahead and double click
on that and it just takes a few seconds
and it is already done it is done a
force reset that password and you can
see here the file open password which is
this bunch of numbers in the brackets
that's my new temporary password and
what I recommend is you just click on
this copula language all save that for
paste operations later on so if i click
copy and i'm going to go ahead and open
up outlook now now what I'll do is I'll
right-click in the password field and
click paste and that will copy the
password ahead in memory and I must say
okay and this will open up my outlook
now this is a temporary password so if i
close and reopen up outlook i'll need to
put in that string of numbers every
single time now if I want to clear that
out or reset that I just come over to
outlook data file right-click properties
or sorry data file properties go to the
advanced button and then click on change
password now i can paste that password
in there again under old password that's
my temporary password and if i want a
blanket out you can just leave these
blank or you can type in a new password
i'm going to go ahead and blanket out so
I'm just going to leave those empty and
click ok click OK
and click OK again now let's test this
I'm gonna go ahead and close outlook and
it should open without a password prompt
and it did

versions the forensic kid is the most

will also break the outlook password as
