How to Install Canon EOS Utility Software with no CD on Mac OsX

You can follow a step-by-step guide with pictures on my blog at This a little lengthy and very detailed video tutorial to demonstrate to you how you can install the EOS Utility software on your Mac with no CD.
This comes in handy when you either have no CD's, as if you bought a Canon camera used, or lost the CD's or you have a computer that has no CD/DVD drive like mine.

This easy to follow guide will show you the needed steps to take and the changes that need to be made in order to install the software with no errors or issues.
I do apologize for the poor video quality of my screen grabs, I think it was the capture program I was using.

Some of this may be drawn out, but I wanted to explain every little step so that anyone could follow it and get good results.

You do not need to be a "hacker" or any kind of programmer or have any skills of that nature to do this.

your face photography and today I'm
going to show you how to install the
canon eos utility software on the system
where you either do not have the cds
where you have a computer system like
mine that does not have an optical drive
and so many may ask when ok why do you
really need this uh you know you just
put a you know download the software
which is true downright hear from Kenny
unfortunately there's a little file into
software that triggers something in the
system to look for previous install
software so if you don't have it install
previously in will not install i'll give
you an example here but first we're
going to go to the can website select
the canon of any kind of camera here I
usually choose 70 because it doesn't
require serial number as like the 1dx
does even though it uses the same
software for some reason to 1 DX does
require a serial number to allow you to
download the software so good idea us 70
just in case you're wondering I used in
the USA site since i am located in US
but whatever country you reside in
you may want to use that that cannon
website just just bc i mean it should be
should be fine either way but ok we're
going to select drivers and software my
system here is a OS x mavericks so it
should detect your operating system
right here if not just put on here just
select the window here select your
operating system going to select
software then we're going to select the
u.s. utility software now credit you'll
notice right here says updater so it's
not a problem i'll click on that and
going to give you this
make sure you just a disclaimer
basically saying that they're not
responsible for anything like Baba
you agree download click on it it should
download the summer window showing if
you're on decent connection should only
take a few minutes at this point you can
a closed window
the only other option I would suggest it
do not want to go through this is only a
few steps but you can download or you
can buy one of these contraptions where
you can connect your CD your portable
CEO or an IDE or anything like that
through one of these basically powers up
and connected to USB port and they run
anywhere from ten to forty dollars
online depending where you get it from
the software should work because
technically you have the CD at that
point but it may still give you issues
because it's not any drive that the
software can detect bullies
I don't know anyway ok anyway
the software is downloaded we close this
window can pull it up for download
window here let's see
as you can see i downloaded it once
before so don't take on this update open
the zip file and what you're gonna find
out if you're going to have the update
your software over the dmg file this is
the disk image you want to double click
that and going to mount the image can
close this window here and you know
you've done it right because you have
this little it looks like a portable CD
on your desktop and click on that that
opens up the installer and this is the
problem that most people have is the new
double click on this you get this this
is either this is a result of your
security and privacy settings in the OS
X so what you will need to do is open
your system preferences
ok moving out of the way here going to
go to security and privacy here and
notice this is mac app store now since
we didn't download that program the mac
app store change our privacy settings so
you have to click the padlock enter your
admin admin password then click on
anywhere it's going to ask you
impromptu do you want to allow from
anywhere you want to say yes or allow
from anywhere once the radio button is
highlighted you can click your pad lock
twist lock again and let's go back to
our installer now it gives you a
different window saying okay you don't
want this on the internet do you want to
install well since we downloaded from a
reputable site like cannon sure we want
to open
well here's the problem since you didn't
have the software installed before this
is where it prompts you for the CD you
can start a CD search and since that I'm
CD drive it can't find it
so this is where you have a portable CD
drive or USB adapter for CD drive is
where it may work it may not so just
want to cancel so here's the reason why
you would need this if you buy a used
camera that does not have disease or
you've lost the cds or you just don't
have a disk drive to put cds in this is
where this community
ok so we still have the canon software
here on the desktop going to take it and
put it on it but not to install it
click and drag it to your desktop you
should see a little red or 38 green
circle with a plus sign in all this just
let it go
test up once it's done copying we can
close the installer and actually eject
it this way to avoid
kind of confusion i think what troubles
a lot of people as they actually try to
alter the disk image which you have to
think of it as the virtual CD so it is a
read-only file so we tried all turning
the files at law take in the free one
error so anyway so now we have the
copied installer or desktop we want to
right click on it and show package
contents
this is going to open up the Finder
window you should have contents here
single folder click on that folder open
up two more and we'll look for the
resources folder double-click on that
and the file we're looking for is this
info . datx there are some websites that
say just strictly just delete this file
long I've seen situations where people
have done it and the installer still
does not work
why I have no idea but this is the file
that basically tells the software to
look for the previous versions to
install and are not do not install so
what we're going to do is going to click
on this enough to rename and right there
at the very end just going to add these
these . the LD so . old and enter not
going to double click or anything like
that so basically want you one highlight
it it should say info got the ATX . old
so in the software sense the original
file isn't there even though it is still
there has been renamed but as a small
percent it doesn't know that this is not
intuitive enough to find a rename file
anyway we can close explore our Explorer
as Finder window and now we can
double-click on the installer it's going
to ask you get down with this from the
internet you want to install your we do
so
and this is where you get the window you
select your language preference or
country Providence minds us going to hit
us they're installing now you know don't
say updater it does install the full
program go as click OK
yes and should prompt you for your admin
password which is pretty typical on OSX
enter that and this is what you should
see obviously if you have a solid state
drive this will probably take mere
seconds to install and since so you can
do this with all the other software of
that i'm aware of from Canon the image
browser i think it's called zoom
something the digital professional pro
and pretty much the same process so if
you have other windows open especially
internet windows you'll see them cycle
on and off that's pretty common
ok so now and there we go now the only
other issue you may have is within your
system preferences here
go to your security and privacy tab
under your general tab always make sure
that this is selected to anywhere you
can
once you install or uninstall and you
can click this enter your admin password
and you can select that back the mac app
and identify developer or just Mac App
Store depending on what your preferences
mine
I'm not too concerned with it being
anywhere this allows me to install
third-party software and I feel
comfortable go ahead and lock
whatever your preferences are go ahead
and make sure you click your lock this
way nobody else changes your settings
and go and close then you are done
and as you can see going to your
software is all click in there is your
EOS utility once you connect your camera
via USB these options will line up and
allow you to either download the images
or do remote settings remote shooting
games and other features like that and
