Hey what is up guys, Chris Connor here and in this after effects tutorial I am going to show you how to freeze a water drop mid air for supernatural VFX. This is linked to the Trance concept vid which pusses the cinematic limits of what one person can do on his/her own. From implementing dynamic camera movement based on real shake data to turning a comon bathroom into a film concept location, from props to an even more advanced layer system for achieving the cinematic look with color grading in after effects, to sound design...the list goes on.

- Canon 70D (no magic lantern use)

hey we're the guys Chris car here and
welcome to another creatrix tutorial in
this one we're going to take a look at
how we can create a cgi water drop and
suspended in time and space not created
very cool looking super natural effect
that said let's take a look at the clip
it's pretty cool
and the thing is on this the effects
clip was sown in last week's video
called trans and that thing has a lot of
things going for it

so the first thing I always do is set up
my project by clicking this thing
this is my selection and if you want to
know why I did those things as well as
my remote settings make sure to follow

and now I am ready to import my files
so all open my folder clip my video clip
and drag it in drag and drop with it
selected i will drop it into a new
composition and this is what we got so
far
if i scroll through let me zoom out
it's basically a club a static lip with
a water drop moving very slowly and this
is going to be used as a template to
create our drop
so here's one going to I'm going to keep
composition and same frame as file photo
shop works fine
simply click render are some and then i
will drop my image
basically which is still frame into
effect
I will go to my composition and drag it
in
awesome so we're going to use this image
to create our water drop so I'm going to
affect and cook and hit CC lens and this
is a pretty cool effect that basically
takes the video and makes fear out of it
now of course this is insanely big so he
s on the keyboard and change the scale
of image
- let's say five i will zoom in here and
we'll reposition the word drop towards
should be no five looks pretty good but
let's make it
no you know what five is good let's give
it 5 and if you guys can see
so here's what I want to do now i will
manipulate the values to make it look
more like a water drop that because now
it doesn't really seem like it reflects
the environment
very well so go to the size and start
changing the values and as you can see
the fire ago
the more on the environment you can see
but after a while its plates and doesn't
really look that realistic so i'll go to
around 19
let's go to 19 and this looks pretty
good so now i would propose this by
hitting right clicking pre compose and i
will call it drop a hit enter now make
sure to move all attributes
it ok cool so here's what I'm going to
do now i'm going to select my rotation
tool and I'm going to rotate the drop to
where I think it should be in terms of
like a reflection
so if i put it there looks pretty good
to me
so we're good for now now here's what I
don't like there's too much detail in
the middle and usually can see through a
were dropped so i will click my lips -
and if you can see this go to this icon
hold it and then all the options will
come up
so with my ellipse tool selected i will
zoom in here and make a shape basically
a circle and now we'll subtract the
valium and then I will take that circle
and put it in the middle
now all we select my lair the heat and
twice in this open the mask properties
so i will actually expand
the mask by 2 and feather eight by ten
actually let's make it five and
feathering 15
now this is our an experiment phase
so you're on values may vary depending
on the situation and how far away you
are from the image but this looks ok for
now but actually i'll select another hit
him twice and lex makes this
let's make this 7.5 keep the mask
yeah let's pick up ten awesome
this looks better so now now that we've
done that now this looks way too big for
to be a water drop so i think i made a
small error so i will click my lair
twice to open the new composition and he
s now it's five so it's correct so i
will make it smaller to like three
let's make it four ok then I'll go back
to my composition so this why that and
it looks ok
like convincing you know but it's too
perfect to be a water drop
so what I'm going to do is go to effects
resort again and now hit the reason this
place
of course things are kind of crazy right
now so let's change the amount to arm it
15 and 35 for now
and still got it seems the complex t2
and analyzing on high and what I'm going
to do I'm going to play with evolution
to see what happens
as you can see now it looks like a word
drop way more than before because it has
the dynamic water effect
I'm pretty happy with this so i will hit
ctrl-c to make the value zero and i will
basically time frame
the evolution but not from this point
where i need to scope back to where we
first see the faucet or the tab which is
it's down right there right there
and now click the evolution keyframe and
i will move forward to where our clip
stops which is right there and i would
put the cycle 2 x 3 and then just
randomly select the place
so if I ass hole in my lair and zoom in
you can see what happens here
same it's pretty cool so i will select
the layer so this is what I got not
again
this looks way too much in terms of like
a drop size so i'll click s on my scale
and make it like 75 and reposition it
under the faucet pretty cool i will keep
control
d to duplicate and then he s and change
the scale to prevent smaller so it has
like a very small bubble next to it
which I think makes it look more called
now 25 is too much so I will go for 15
right there are some that looks pretty
cool
and that's it that's the effect are now
what I need to do is basically called a
great
the clip and then put it on the sequence
of the original file
so now let's preview this one
yep that's it pretty good now with that
