How To Backup Your .htaccess File Via File Manager On Your Apache Server | WP Learning Lab

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to backup the .htaccess file using the file manager.

The .htaccess file is a very important file. If even one character of code is out of place it can take your whole site down. To bring your site back up all you have to do is go back into the .htaccess and fix what's broken, but finding the problem can sometimes be difficult.

It's much easier to make a backup of the .htaccess file before you start monkeying around.

All you have to do is log into the folder that contains the .htaccess file and copy or duplicate it. I usually change the name of the duplicate to contain "-bkp" at the end, so it would be labelled .htaccess-bkp.

bkp is shorthand for backup.

Then you can go in and start editing the live .htaccess file. If everything goes well I'll delete the backup.

If something goes sideways, you can either copy the contents of the backup to the live file and save. Or delete the live file and rename the backup to remove the "-bkp".

The .htaccess file can help a lot for WordPress security and hack prevention.

it's Bjorn from the BP Learning Lab in
this video I'm gonna show you how to
make a backup and reach the Access file
which is what you wanna do won every
making changes to that file
so I lied into my hosting account for
the website I'm working on
and in a scroll down to where it says
file manager an hour click on that now
open the document root
for the website that I'm working on and
you can also use the FTP
you just gotta open FTP client and go to
the website root folder
so here we have read c-axis fun we're
gonna copy
I have to do is highlight it and right
click on it
and then choose the copy option and what
you have to do is
copied into a subfolder because we can't
change
the file name appear if you change a
funny be real easy
but we can't do that view the file
manager so we have to copy it into a
subfolder
sums gonna copied into the PP dash
admin folder and we all the dirty dash
admin folder
and we have the copy here and I mean
change the file name
to include a dash BKP
at the end which is short for backup my
own shorthand for backup
and then I will right click the file
again and choose move
and I will move it back into the root
directory
now if we go back to the root directory
we now have reached the Access file and
our backup file
so we can use the regular is jackson's
father when it's actually being used by
the Web Site maker and its
if we find that something goes wrong we
don't know what it is really quick fix
we can just delete this file and then
change the founding of the backup file
to remove the dash
BKP and then you have a run each access
file again any webb says back to normal
so that's how you back up each access
file is pretty simple
