[Music]
welcome back ladies and gentlemen to the
Chupacabra tutorials Channel I'm your
host Larry and we're back here today to
preview a new screen recording software
called screen grabber pro just made by
the company ace thinker and unlike a lot
of these screen recording softwares that
I typically preview this one isn't meant
for recording gameplay for your favorite
video games but instead is primarily
focused on recording presentations on
your desktop showcasing things like your
favorite software and how to create
stuff with it in the form of a tutorial
along with doing webinars and all pretty
much any presentation that you can think
of this would be a very nice software
that you can use to do that and the way
that it allows you to do that is it has
a couple of features that I think are
kind of handy the first is it allows you
to create live annotations to your
videos and I don't mean annotations like
on YouTube where you have a pop-up box
with text appear at a specific time now
what I really mean is that it allows you
to draw things like arrows or circles or
little doodles on the screen live while
you're recording to help illustrate
whatever you're doing on screen which I
would imagine would be especially
helpful when you are creating certain
types of tutorials it also has support
for webcams you can do direct webcam
audio you can also do direct audio from
your microphone for the use in making a
podcast and it also has support to make
a whole wide variety of screenshots so
we're taking a look at this here today
and previewing all the functionality and
the settings and everything to see if
this is the type of software that you
folks at home might be looking for so I
think the first thing we ought to do is
preview some of the functionality in the
recorder and to do that I'm gonna jump
in to Premiere Pro and we'll just start
talking about what it can do so your
primary bread-and-butter for screen
grabber pro is going to be under the
start button and you have the ability to
make a few different types of recordings
here
you can record a specific region of your
computer screen where you click and drag
over a little square and it'll just
record that section of your screen this
is really nice if you have a lot of
moving parts to your presentations let's
say you have a couple different pieces
of software that you want to use
together that you're gonna be moving in
and out with a little small minimized
window into that section of your screen
but you also want to have it all kind of
organized off to the side that's a great
functionality that you can use that for
you can also record full screen and this
actually has support from multiple
monitors it detects both of my monitors
so I can either record from screen 1 or
screen 2 it can follow your mouse which
I guess that's kind of cool I'm not
really sure when you'd want to use that
because it kind of looks a little bit
wonky but I would imagine if you're
trying to edit together multiple clips
and you want to focus on your mouse for
something very specific this would be
very handy you can directly record your
webcam and you can directly record an
audio recording in the audio format of
your choice it includes things like a
compressed mp3 file AAC audio which is
what's used in mp4 videos along with
uncompressed WAV files where you'd
probably want to use that for something
like a podcast but for right now I'm
primarily focused on the full screen
capability so I'm just gonna click on my
screen 1 or I've got Premiere Pro open
right now and then it'll give me a
little countdown before things start
recording and then a little bar appears
at the bottom to let me know that
everything is working I can dynamically
adjust my volume for both the system
sounds and my microphone sounds right
here from this little dashboard pause
stop the recording and also add a webcam
now the other feature that's kind of
nifty about this is that you also have
this little canvass of annotations to
add while you're making your video now
fair warning this dashboard is recorded
by the software screen grabber pro will
record its own little dashboard that
pops up here but if you had done with it
and you don't need it anymore you can
just hit the
and close it and then it'll show up in
your little system tray down here as the
flashing a sinker screen grabber pro
icon and with this I can do a couple of
different things that I actually think
could be handy for people that don't
necessarily have access to a robust
editor at home like I use Premiere Pro
obviously this allows you to do things
like to point out something with a big
honking arrow and you can make these
arrows multiple different sizes to say
like okay I'm gonna put my next little
clip inside of the water tastes like
wine sequence which is a game that I did
a interview for recently and then you
can also add some text here I'll just
add some large white text to say that
this is the let's say I'm making a
tutorial and I could say this is the
preview window and then it'll have this
little label here that I can then move
around if I want it says this is the
preview window I can go ahead and put
some more over here to say this is the
clips bin
you
and you know lots of stuff like that you
can make some little circles to
highlight stuff if you want to pay
attention to while you're working you
can draw some lines to different things
and you can just do two like you can
make a little smiley face right here
yay and when you're done with it you can
just hit the little eraser to remove
everything and I know with my experience
from working with programs like Camtasia
and seeing some of the stuff that other
people use that for I know that
annotating stuff as you go is often a
very heavily used feature that a lot of
people like unfortunately this doesn't
have the ability to dynamically animate
stuff as you go and I think a lot of
people who might be more in depth power
users would probably find a lot more
utility out of just recording a
nice-sounding video taking that clip
when it's done pulling it into a
separate editor and making adjustments
from there the other thing is that
through this little dashboard if you
decide through the middle of your
recording that you want to add a webcam
to your recording you can just pull down
this drop-down menu and find your video
source that you want to use in my case
it's a Logitech c920 webcam and click on
the Add button and they'll actually
bring up your webcam in a little pop-up
window that you can move around wherever
you want I'm mostly used to different
software's that have the webcam start
recording and then you can either move
it around after the fact or tell the
program where you want the video to be
recorded so we can appear in like a
little lower left corner or a lower
right corner and you might notice that
there's a slight lag in my webcam right
now that's actually because I'm
recording a recorder with a recorder so
a slight frame delay in my webcam is
going to happen but for you know quick
little things
like adding yourself in for a
presentation like a webinar where you'd
want to engage with people a little bit
more directly to see your face to see
what you're talking about so you can use
your hands to talk like I'm so fond of
that's kind of an interesting feature so
we're going to go ahead and close out
the recording right now by hitting stop
and you can see that it's actually
processing our recording right here and
I like the fact that this recorder
automatically if I open up the
containing folder by clicking on this
button here I like that all of your
recordings in this software
are automatically put up in the form of
a useable mp4 video
they just mute this so that you don't
hear my voice echoing on you so I like
that it automatically exports these
videos in the form of an immediately
usable mp4 video at very good quality
and you can actually set the quality of
your video using a known bitrate whereas
a lot of recorders will only allow you
to say like I want a high quality video
without really telling you what any of
that means so you always have these
videos here in an immediate mp4 version
and if you want you can click on edit to
bring up the video editor to do some
basic trimming add some little basic
effects to it like a vignette or
something and you can also convert it to
practically every video format under the
Sun which actually surprised me so just
going along the menu here you've got the
ability to set up what kind of audio
recording you want to do if you want to
record your system sound or just your
microphone or both you can also adjust
the volumes by clicking on this button
and it'll bring up the volume slider
which directly ties in to your system
audio so it'll direct LIGO into your
like your desktop audio if you were to
go to lower right hand corner and right
click on your speaker's icon you also
have the ability to take pretty decent
screenshots actually so if I click on
the screenshot button it'll bring up
this interesting looking window where I
can click and drag on some portion of my
screen to take a screenshot of this
section by hitting a hotkey or hitting
one of these buttons down here this also
allows you to either take the screenshot
or directly share this section of your
screen in a still image online you can
email it you can upload it somewhere you
can print it you can add your own
annotations again from this screenshot
which is something I'm not used to
seeing from a lot of software so that
was kind of interesting so if you want
to just make a quick little image and
you want to like highlight something
like edit this guy's nose out he's got a
blemish here you got to remove that in
Photoshop before we send it to print
that would be a good way to do that once
you're done creating something
can select it you can tell it to upload
it to YouTube or to an custom FTP server
of your choice that would be like a web
server and then they've got some pretty
decently in-depth options and also a
task scheduler so you can actually
schedule this software to automatically
record something happening on your
computer at a specific time of day and
get into some pretty detailed recordings
as to when you want it to do that if you
want it to use the webcam or not cetera
et cetera I again I'm not sure when I'd
use this particular feature but it's
there if you think you have a particular
reason like maybe you want to make sure
that the FedEx guy delivered your
package on time so you could point your
webcam out the window out front of the
door you could do that I don't know but
the the option is here if you want it
and then let's just dive into some of
these options and see what you've got so
by default we've got some pretty
standard features you've got the ability
to turn on the program when windows
starts if you make a lot of recordings
you make a lot of presentations let's
say you want to make a video to show
your clients at the next upcoming
meeting so you can run them through what
the software does on your computer so
that before you even get to the
conference room
you know you've got stuff going on you
can include your mouse cursor in the
recording minimize it to the system tray
while you're recording etc etc you can
dynamically change any of these hotkeys
to pretty much any key that you want
although me personally I've got so many
hotkeys on my computer I tend when
evaluating software to just use whatever
buttons I have available
and then of course you can change the
directory that your recordings are sent
to now the thing that I'm not as keen on
in these settings is that while you've
got the ability to by default record in
pretty much any video format including
an animated gif if you want so if you're
one of those people that likes to make
cute little gifts about stuff that you
do on your computer you can do that
right here but the thing that I don't
like is I feel like these other settings
down here should just be in their own
tab at the top because adding these to
what looks like a hyperlink
- like going to a website can confuse
some users so I'm not entirely sure if
that's super great but you have the
option here and this is something you'll
see in a moment to add certain effects
to your mouse and this is what I meant
when I said you can add specific little
accoutrements or effects to your mouse
clicks like you could and say Camtasia
because this particular software allows
you to have a little blue sphere that
follows around your mouse to highlight
where your mouse is in case you have
somebody watching your video that isn't
very tech-savvy and has trouble
following along and then you can change
what color that is
and you can also make it so that when
you click on the mouse and it does you
know you click on something it does a
little pulse of color to let people know
what you're doing they're left clicking
or right-clicking on some object
on-screen which I think was actually
pretty handy you can also animate the
mouse buttons that tell people with a
little animation on-screen what's going
on and while you don't really have
control over this after the video is
done recording if you just want to add
like a neat little effect to help keep
people's attention and to help them
through your tutorial or your
presentation so they can follow along
better this has those features you've
also got some pretty standard audios of
effects and settings where you can tell
it what speakers to use like record my
system sounds coming from my headset and
record from my Yeti stereo microphone
and record in a high quality quality for
audio on this program is pretty good
it's not as high as say using Adobe
Audition to record nor would I expect it
to be but it's on par with the default
settings for other programs like OBS
studio so I wasn't disappointed by that
at all it was pretty much what I
expected and it did a pretty nice job
for video options you have quite a few
things here you have the ability to
allow the movie recorder to record a
region while capturing
or you know you can see what these other
basic features are but what I'm focused
on down here are the video formatting
options you have the ability to record
again in just about every video format
from WMV to avi you have the ability to
pick what recording codec you want to
use and you have the ability to record
in a lot of quality with a high bitrate
of about 20,000 kilobits per second or
20 megabits per second and to give you
some reference material on YouTube the
standard 1080p recording recommendation
from YouTube to upload is about 8
megabits per second or 8000 kilobits per
second so this is pretty good it's not
super HD quality if I wanted super HD
quality I'd want this pulldown to offer
me something along the lines of 45,000
kilobits per second but for right now
this is a perfect amount of quality for
a presentation for a webinar for
uploading basically anywhere on the web
this is actually a little bit of
overkill then you can set the frame rate
all the way up to a smooth buttery 60fps
which is what you would expect if you
want to make a really gorgeous video for
places like YouTube since they support
that now and then depending on the power
of your computer you can either set it
to give priority to the performance of
your computer so you don't lag while
you're recording or you can give it
priority to quality on a pretty beefy
computer if you select balance it's
gonna give you good quality recordings
so I wouldn't really worry about that
advanced video extra that's already
already said set temporary folder you
can change the temporary folder where
this stores temporary files for when
it's recording
I really wouldn't mess around with that
that's probably not going to take up too
much space but if you have multiple hard
drives that your that your operating
systems running on you might want to
change that location so for the last
little section I think I would I'll do
is I will preview what it looks like
when you see those little mouse click
effects that I was talking about in the
settings so if you look over here this
is my mouse cursor and you can see
there's a little blue
circle around it to indicate where it is
to help people see what I'm indicating
on screen and then whenever I click on
something there's also a little
animation of red popping out and blue
depending on if I'm left clicking or
right clicking to help draw people's
attention to where my mouse is because
again depending on who you're talking to
and who's watching your video
presentation your tutorial whatever it
can be very difficult to keep track of
where a mouse cursor is especially
because like on my screen my mouse
cursor is often very small so it's hard
to see where it is hard to keep track of
what's going on if you're a less
tech-savvy person so I thought that was
a nice little effect to have in there
you can obviously you saw you can turn
it off if you don't want it but a lot of
people this is potentially a
deal-breaker for them as being able to
add quick annotations to point stuff out
in their presentation while they go and
overall I would say for your
run-of-the-mill user who's looking to
make concise presentations at home with
some additional frills and effects that
doesn't get too crazy and it doesn't
have a crazy price tag screen grabber
pro is a good not just a good but a
great software for that purpose it
allows you to quickly make screen
recordings of anything on your desktop
any software that you've got running the
only limitation that I found is that
sometimes when you're trying to run a
webcam at the same time as you're trying
to do annotations live annotations it
can sometimes cause the software to
crash if the webcam image is really big
on your screen otherwise I didn't run
into any major issues that was pretty
much it
it works the quality is good the audio
quality is solid it basically sounds
like I sound right now so I just didn't
worry about putting too many of those
sample clips into the video and you can
pick it up for around $40 it's currently
on sale at the time of my recording this
video for around 30 ish dollars so
that's it for this one I hope you found
this little video preview / review
informative or if you're looking to pick
this software up for yourselves I fully
recommend it
don't forget to Like and subscribe and I
will catch you next time bye everybody
and have a good one
