FolderMill is able to convert multiple types of
files into PDF
In this video we will do it step-by-step
First, create a new Hot folder
Create new Action set
Select 'Convert to PDF' and click 'OK'
Apply changes
Press Start to run FolderMill
Go to the FolderMill parent directory, at C:/FolderMill Data/Hot Folders by default
Proceed to Hot folders -> 1 -> Incoming folder
We have 7 files with different formats: DOC, XLSX, JPEG, PPT, PSD, TIFF, TXT, as an example
Now we'll drag'n'drop them into the FolderMill Incoming folder
Go back to Hot folder 1
In the Processed folder we can see files being
processed real-time
Now open the Output folder and we can see the result - our 7 documents are now in separate PDF files. The task is complete!
For instance, you have files related to a single criteria, e.g. - a client ID, invoice number, etc.
They can be of single, or various formats, but have the same filename
Let's append these files one-by-one to a multipage PDF
Create new Hot folder
Create new Action set
Select 'Convert to PDF' and tick 'Append to
existing PDF' checkbox
Apply changes and press Start
Afterwards open Incoming folder
Now just drag'n'drop the files to Incoming folder
Please note: files are added to existing PDF
consecutively. So it is important to place them
in the right order
It can be done from any location or device and
by any user linked up to this Hot folder
Let us check the Output folder
Voila, we have the input files appended to PDF. The task is complete!
Documents were added in the same order they were placed into the Incoming folder and the output PDF has the same filename
If we need to append files with different filenames to a PDF, we'll just add one more action to the Action set - Rename document
Select 'Rename document' as 1st action
Replace {Name} with a desired name for the
output file
Leave {Ext} (Extension) untouched (!)
Add 'Convert to PDF' as 2nd action
Tick 'Append to existing PDF' checkbox
Apply changes
Open Incoming folder
Place the input files into the Incoming folder
They will be renamed and consecutively merged
into a single PDF file
Now we'll check the outcome in the Output folder
We get a single multipage PDF titled as
'Document A'
It contains all our input documents, and the task
is complete.
