Quark to InDesign automation - QXPMarkz AppleScript

Quark to InDesign automation with QXPMarkz AppleScript is demonstrated in this how-to video tutorial. Markzware's QXPMarkz application, for QuarkXPress to Adobe InDesign document conversion, has a host of possible Automations.

In this video, you will see how QXPMarkz can be automated with AppleScript. Keep in mind, QXPMarkz has replaced Q2ID and offers many more features and options. It allows users to open QuarkXPress in InDesign, Affinity Publisher, older QuarkXPress versions, and more:

For instance, in the Preferences, you can automatically create conversions from Quark to InDesign, open in InDesign, close windows, etc. However, some users prefer to use AppleScript and integrate the conversion process, further into their workflow, or to use it in Enfocus Switch.

You can download the AppleScript used by
Eddie, a Markzware engineer, in this video tutorial:

For more information on QuarkXPress to InDesign automations, via QXPMarkz, see:
https://markzware.com/docs/qxpmarkz/1/en/topic/automation-preferences?q=automation

You can batch process QuarkXPress files, to convert into InDesign. With QXPMarkz, you do NOT need Adobe's InDesign application, to be able to convert QuarkXPress to InDesign!

In the video, check out the possibilities for workflow automation with QXPMarkz. A lot is possible for DTP and publishing professionals who may have thousands of .QXP layouts (or even .QXD documents).

Quark to InDesign automation - QXPMarkz AppleScript
Closed Caption:

David Dilling, on behalf of
Markzware, here.
And, today, we're going to show you
how to use QXPMarkz, with
AppleScript. For that matter, this can
apply for all the “Markz” line,
like IDMarkz, for InDesign files, and
PDFMarkz, for PDF files,
how to automate them even further, with
AppleScript, in your workflow.
QXPMarkz, for previewing and
converting QuarkXPress files,
is very handy to have,
particularly for
people with legacy Quark files.
Some might have thousands,
or tens of thousands, of old
Quark .qxp (or even .qxd) files.
Out of the box, QXPMarkz comes with a
host of advanced preferences,
which you find under the
QXPMarkz menu item and the
Preferences. For instance,
you can automatically
open IDML in specific
versions of InDesign.
Under the Automation section, is
where it really gets interesting.
There, you can do many things, without
even using AppleScript. For instance,
automatically, on open,
export an IDML file of the Quark file,
or automatically export a PDF. You can go
further, by suppressing dialogs,
changing the location of where you want
the file saved out to, and automatically
closing windows, when possible.
So, I’m going to hand it off to Eddie,
one of our engineers at Markzware, and
he's going to show you an example of
using QXPMarkz with AppleScript.
Alright, here's a quick example of using
QXPMarkz or really any of the
Markz products, for Applescript.
In this example, I’m going to
be opening up this test file, here,
and, then, converting it, with QXPMarkz.
And, then, after, the IDML will be
opened, in Adobe InDesign 2021. Go ahead
and just going to hit Run, here.
See? It launched QXPMarkz. The
conversion happened. Now, it's
opening up Adobe InDesign.
It should open the IDML, shortly.
And there it is!
And that all happened, pretty quickly.
I could show you, again.
Go ahead and close this.
InDesign's open. Nothing open. And the
AppleScript. I’m going to hit Run, again.
Pretty quickly, there, you saw QXPMarkz do
the conversion and, then, the IDML opened,
here, again. Alright. Hope you enjoyed
this information. Hope it was useful,
for you, on how to automate QXPMarkz, with
AppleScript and with the built-in automations,
even. By the way, I should also
mention you can also just
select multiple files and
open them all, at once, in QXPMarkz.
Pretty handy, as well, for someone
who just needs to do a few
Quark to InDesign conversions and might
want to preview them, first.
So, if you want to go
buy Markzware's QXPMarkz, today,

wishing you a fantastic day!
