Hi everyone, today, its time to test and give you
my opinions on an AI video upscaler. The software
is called VideoProc Converter AI and you can get
it from the link in the description. VideoProc
can do a lot of stuff but today I want to focus
on AI super resolution, frame interpolation and
stabilization. I will later compare the
results with native 4K videos as well.
Here are 3 4K sample videos
depicting 3 different situations.
First is a closeup of a cat,
the second is a drone shot of an island
and finally some tourists walking.
All these videos are downscaled to a very
low resolution of 360p as you
can see to upscale them later.
For frame interpolation, we have
a cool dance, recorded at 25fps,
but I reduced the frame rate to just
10fps to see how capable videoproc is.
And for stabilization, here's a shaky
video of a person on a computer.
So without further delay, lets start off with
AI upscaling, which I'm most interested in.
We can just click on Super
Resolution, add the low res video,
I'm selecting the 4x option which is the
highest, now, the output will be 1440p,
but you can upscale to even 4K if the
resolution of input is at least 540p.
Just leave everything else
default and it's that simple.
Let's start the upscaling process.
Unfortunately, the upscaling
process took a bit of time as
there is only integrated graphics in my
computer. Anyway, here are the results.
For the first sample, VideoProc did an excellent
job when bringing out details
from the low res cat video.
On the drone shot, the upscaled video looks okay
as it can't properly generate foliage textures.
The last sample turned out to be good enough,
except for the faces, faces are messed up.
For frame interpolation, here is a dance
video shot at 25 frames per second.
I have reduced the frame rate
to just 10fps as you can see.
After interpolation, the 30fps interpolated video
looks good and smooth, if we don't
pause and inspect frame by frame.
And here is a shaky video to
test stabilization of VideoProc.
The stabilized video output doesn't
seem stable enough for me unfortunately.
Now, here's my final verdict.
I will definitely pick Topaz Video Enhance AI
over VideoProc anyday. As it's more matured
and run fast, while delivering better output.
The upscaling of simple high quality low
resolution videos worked out with VideoProc,
even the frame interpolation
turned out to be good.
However, Topaz Video Enhance AI is
a costly affair. It costs around
300 dollars lifetime license
with just 1 year of upgrades.
But look at the price of VideoProc. It's just
more affordable. The lifetime price of just
46 dollars seems like a nice deal to me.
So if you're on a budget, you can consider
VideoProc as a viable option as
its still a capable video enhancer.
