▬ VIDEO SUMMARY ▬
Mondly Review (Is It Effective?) In this review, Bianca from Guide2Fluency shares our thoughts on the Mondly app. We've compared them to others several times in the past, so it's time we gave you our thoughts on their pros and cons and how they compare to other apps for their paid version. Mondly is similar to a lot of other popular apps, but with some distinct features like an AR & VR app, a brain tool to track your progress, and a pin-style dashboard that gives you more freedom to choose how you want to learn, it's been worth considering over a Duolingo or Babbel depending on what kind of learner you are. By the end of this video, you should know whether Mondly is the right app for you.

Hi, welcome to Guide to Fluency where we
review language programs and apps to
help you on your language learning
journey. [music] Today I'll be reviewing
the language course from Monley. I'll
discuss how Monley stacks up against
other [music] apps in terms of pricing,
pros, cons, and of course whether we
think Monley is a good choice [music]
for you. We'll also be giving away on
language course to our subscribers. It's
really easy to enter. Just subscribe and
comment on this video. Also, if you find
you need some more information, we have
a written article over on our website.
All you got to do to get there is Google
guide to fluency Monley review. So,
let's start with a quick overview of how
the Monley app works before we share our
thoughts. Monley starts with a daily
5-minute lesson, then has you pick a pin
from their map style dashboard. [music]
Each pen has lessons that cover a
specific topic or theme, like travel or
anatomy, [music] but these are really
just lessons you complete after the core
daily lesson. The daily lessons, like
the thematic lessons, are a mix of
drills and exercises similar to Rosetta
Stone. There are also some weekly
quizzes and monthly challenges. And
Monley does offer VR and AR apps, but
those are extras and aren't part of your
usual lessons. Now, let's get into the
pros and cons. Starting with an
important one. Modly offers a free but
limited version. Even if you choose to
unlock the full program by subscribing
to one of their packages, it's still one
of the most affordable apps out there.
[music] The monthly subscription runs
for around $10 a month. The 12-mon
subscription costs $48 for the year or
$4 a month. And the lifetime package
ranges depending on promotions that are
going on, but you can sometimes find it
for under $100. For comparison, Babel's
month-to-month subscription costs closer
to $18. Super Duolingo is $13 and
Pimpsler comes in around $20. So, Mley
has most of the competition beat. To get
the lowest rates with Mley though,
you'll usually need to find some kind of
discount code. I'll have links to any
discount codes we can find down below in
the description, so be sure to check
that out before you upgrade. Moving on
to the next highlight for Monley,
[music] which has to do with their
quick, engaging lessons. Once you get
past their dashboard, you'll find Monley
lessons are similar to a Dualingo or
Babel style lesson. After your core
five-minute lesson, you can complete a
variety of lessons and topics you're
interested in. And each lesson within
those topics is also usually just 5
minutes. [music] This is great for
knocking out lessons on your phone
during your lunch break or for those who
can't commit to a 30-inute audio lesson
with several exercises to review every
day like you'd get with Pimpsler. These
exercises even include voice drills.
After each lesson, your progress is
tracked in the brain tool, which
provides useful data that tracks your
progress with that language. Next, I
want to call out Mley for having a bit
more grammar coverage than other
game-like courses. Mley offers no frills
definitions and grammar breakdowns for
things like verb endings and tenses.
These are just a tap or click away
during any of their standard 5-minute
lessons, which is going to be key for
those of you hoping to reach a high
level of fluency in this lighter course
format. Lastly, we have to mention the
VR and AR apps. These aren't a part of
their free version, but they are really
cool if you happen to have a VR headset
or you're interested in trying some more
novel learning methods. We don't see
many other companies with them, but we
do think they offer a nice immersive
experience when you're hoping to mix up
your learning a bit and keep things
interesting. Now, for the things we
don't really like about Mley. But first,
I wanted to mention that here at Guide
to Fluency, we're on a mission to help 1
million people learn a second language.
As part of that goal, we're giving away
a free language learning course to one
of our lucky subscribers. It's really
simple to enter. I'll leave all the
details down below in the description.
First up, the grammar and cultural
explanations are pretty light. While
Mley does offer some grammar breakdowns,
they are pretty basic. For example, when
you're trying to figure out why a verb
ending changes, you'll get a simple
definition, but it won't really explain
the nuances or cultural context that
often go along with proper usage. This
can make it hard to really grasp the
intricacies of a new language and apply
them correctly in a real world
conversation.
Another con is that Monley speaking
exercises can feel a bit robotic and
limited. You're mostly repeating phrases
or answering simple prompts, and the
app's speech recognition software
sometimes struggles with variations in
pronunciation or intonation. This means
you might not be getting the realistic
practice you need to feel confident
speaking with native speakers, which is
a big part of reaching fluency. Lastly,
the daily and thematic lessons can
become repetitive over time. While the
bite-siz format is convenient, the
structure of the lessons and types of
exercises don't vary much. This can lead
to a sense of monotony and if you're not
consistently challenged with new ways to
learn, it can be easy to lose motivation
and just stop learning altogether.
Okay, so now let's wrap this up with our
final thoughts on Mley. If you're not
looking to set aside half an hour to an
hour to complete a lesson and prefer
shorter drill-based exercises with
definitions a click away, you'll
probably prefer Monley over other apps.
We really like the app's brain tool that
tracks your progress and the AR and VR
apps are really neat additions to their
program that can offer a nice change of
pace during your usual lessons. So yes,
we do recommend Monley and think it will
be especially helpful for beginners.
[music]
While its free version isn't as complete
as Dualingo, its subscriptions are more
affordable than most of the competition.
So now that we've talked about MLY and
given you our thoughts, do you think
this app is right for you? Let us know
in the comments below. And don't forget
to subscribe and like as well for a
chance to win one of our courses in our
monthly [music] giveaway. Best of luck.
See you next time.
