what I was doing is on the YouTube
channel.
Uh a friend of mine was wondering how to
transfer files. Everybody knows you
pretty much just drag and drop it all
over from left to right or from one
folder to another. But I've been using
this program for close to 10 years and
it's just been getting better and
better. I have yet to have any really
issues with it. I have probably about
seven or eight licenses from my iMac to
my Windows computer to a Chromebook to
uh um a USB boot if you wanted to as
well, you know, uh so basically the
application is called GoodSync.
Uh I do also have their other product as
well, which is called RoboForm, which is
a
uh password protected of your passwords
and so forth. So, let me just go to
goodsync.com.
So, this should just be a quick little
video. Uh feel free to subscribe, put
your likes, put your comments down below
about other syncing programs from going
from left to right. So, here basically
is a file sync. GoodSync sync files
between your computer, mobile devices,
FTP. I've used it for FTP and that
definitely helps out. So, like say if
you have a website up, you have the FTP
address, you can just copy whatever
content it is on the FTP, download it to
your computer, so in case you go to a
different web provider, you can upload
that content to another FTP and then
you're pretty much done. Yes, that's
true and an FTP is just basically
another uh network folder or online kind
of statement. You can just download the
whole folder, put it in a folder, and do
the same thing.
Uh the reason why I use this is because
one, it gives you options of doing
backup files, so that's great. So, means
if your source, say you don't want
nothing wrong with your source or touch
your source, you just want all that data
to go to a specific computer or folder
or network or cloud drive, then it's
just going to transfer everything from
left to right, uh which is great.
Uh you can also do a P2P sync if you
want. I don't really use this
uh just because on some of my um
computers, I only have so much gigabyte
space. On this iMac, I have 2 TB and I'm
pretty much filled up with that.
Uh speed and real-time sync, yeah,
definitely that's what it is. Uh so it
basically
Uh yeah, I'll show you in a moment. So
basically uh this is how we use
GoodSync. So you can download a trial.
Trial gives you approximately 14 days
and you can do whatever it is you want,
but
uh definitely you'll like it unless you
have something else going and working
with you.
So this is GoodSync. This is the actual
actual application. I've already ran a
sync. Uh I'm going to go ahead and run a
new one just so you see what the
differences is and then I was going to
go right back to this to show you what
actually happens. So right here is a new
job. New job, you can give it any kind
of job name. Switch
uh left to right or what I do, I don't
have to be specific. Uh you know, I just
uh I'll just do this or you can just
leave it uh with just
I think with one character you can leave
it. So you have the option of
synchronize. So basically it's a two-way
job. It's going to find whatever is on
the left, whatever is on the right from
whatever your source is, whatever your
destination is and make them both
duplicate. Uh so they'll have the same
of everything from one side to the
other. Now they do have this option here
which is basically propagate changes
both ways. Hidden and system files are
excluded, which is true. You don't want
system files to be getting deleted or so
forth. Uh as for the backup, this is
primarily what I use. I use the backup
all the time. Backup is pretty much what
your source is. It's a one-way job, so
your source will not be touched in any
way. It's just finding out if your
source files are the same in your
destination file and then it just moves
it over. If it's not in the destination,
it'll move it over to the destination.
It doesn't do destination back to the
source and change or modify your files.
So, that basically goes back to being
synchronized. So, what I do is I always
do a backup
and then you just go ahead and hit okay.
And then basically creates this new
folder kind of deal. So, here you would
want to go ahead and select on please
select folder. So, you select this
folder. You look for where the folder
is, cloud, FTP, so forth. Then you go
ahead to
your source. So, my source right now is
going to be my iMac here.
It's actually going to be on my desktop.
So, let's open this up.
Let's go to my
users.
My user right now is iOS genius.
Uh no, it's uh it's actually in my
downloads. So, I'll go to downloads.
Here, export to Leo Drive. So, I'll open
this up. So, these are photos here that
I want to transfer over to my
destination, which is my external
Thunderbolt 6 TB drive, which I have
pretty much about 90% filled in. So,
let's go ahead and select choose.
And then, now this is the backup. This
is not the switch from one from one
folder to another folder to synchronize.
So, this backup is going to just take
what's on the left and move it to the
right. So, my destination here is going
to be this drive here, which is called
Universal Universe Leo. So, once you hit
that, and then I'm going to go scroll
down here and this is where I want to
send it to, Pictures 2017.
Okay? So, in here, I'll go ahead and
open that up. Select choose. You can
select the option where it says show
files, but it then it's going to bring
it more granular,
uh and then it show you every little
picture and so forth. Uh rather just
save memory space on my computer and my
iMac only 64 gigs, I just have this
turned off. You can show hidden files
and folders if you want to, but that's
if you have files and folders hidden for
a specific reason so that you can sync
them. So, we're going to go ahead and
select choose.
So, now what we're going to do, and I
already have these two already sync uh
left to right already moved. So, I'm
going to go back down here, which I have
right here is left to right. This is one
I already just synced them a moment ago.
So, if I select this
and there it is. So, it pulls up the
information. So, like up here
all this up here in the top, which has
this equal, that means what's on the
left is on the right. So, pictures 2017
as I just listed on the other one and
photo backup 2017. So, whatever's on the
left is going to move to the right. If
the items are already on the right on
your destination, the left is not going
to recopy those files over. So, for an
example,
uh let me go show you where this
photos backup 2017, here is all those
files. I mean, there's a lot of them.
And this is how I export them from my
photos app on my Mac.
Uh and however you do it, if it's DCIM,
if it's some kind of name you have it,
it's going to look for all that
criteria. So, let's do photo backup
2017, select get info.
You're going to see it's 447
GB
of data. So, now let's look at my
Universal Leo here
which is right here on the bottom left
in my devices.
And then from here, here's the pictures
2017.
So, I'm going to go ahead and select get
info. You're going to see it's 1.61 GB.
So, you would think if you did it the
old-fashioned way, which is basically
going to go to your downloads, and like
say you you had this folder. This is
what you want to copy over. But then
what you can do, oops, wait, what?
Okay. So, what you would do normally is
here's my real drive. So, you would
normally grab this folder, we'll just
say for the we'll create a new folder.
So, we'll send this folder to your
destination, and you just drag and drop
it over.
Okay, it copied over quick because it's
just a folder. But if it had content,
you would have a little window that pops
up says transferring files or so forth.
So, let me see if there's something a
little bigger that I have here
for just a quick example. Here, we'll
just say Final Cut Pro.
We'll move this over here to the right.
And then,
actually that was pretty small.
Oh, it's just data files.
Uh
bear with me for a moment here. Let's
just check get info here.
Uh that's not large enough. Here, this
one's 3 gigs. So, let's transfer this
over.
And then normally you would get this
window that pops up. There it is. This
is the syncing. What if for an example
this crashes on you? We'll just hit the
X, but if it crashes on you, you
couldn't copy a file. So, it crashes,
your destination more or less likely
disappears.
If it doesn't, that means it transferred
some data but not all data. So, what I
use is GoodSync here. So, this GoodSync
here is basically just checking what's
on the left and moving it to the right.
So, what we're going to do for an
example, since I already sync it, it
already has everything matching from the
left to the right. So, what I'm going to
do is look for these specific folders,
delete them from my destination,
and then we're going to go ahead and
resync again. So, we're going to go here
uh Chicago Bucktown. What is that? North
Elston. So, here's a North Elston.
That's January 16th, 2017. Here it is.
So, if we open this up
we have a few pictures in here already.
But, on the left side here, it says
there's two
pictures that were missing. So, 72 and
74. So, let's get 72 here.
Ah, looks like there's two 74s. So, 74
here. So, let's delete these two.
Uh
let's see what this is. Oh, that's an
XMP. That Oh, that's just uh
that's like a cache file. So, that's
really not an actual data file.
All right. So, let's say for an example,
let's pick something else here. Logan
Square North Francisco January 21st. So,
we're going to go look Elston North
Clark.
Oh, wait. That's Logan Square.
So, F G H I should be down here
somewhere.
J K
Here, Logan Square. And we're looking
for what date? It's January 31st, 2017.
So, there's Logan Square here. It's
2017.
December
January. We don't see a January Oh, it's
North Francisco. So, it would be more
down here.
All right. North Francisco North
Francisco
So, we have 2016, 2015. We're looking
for 2017. Here's a 2017.
January 31st we're going to look for.
Here's January.
Here's January 31st. So, we want to go
ahead
uh you can expand that to see what's in
there.
And then, if you look on the left,
there's There's of them. There's 38, 39,
43, 44.
Uh
So, let's see what we can do here. These
are all numerical order. There's not a
57.
57,
and that's it. And then again, these are
data files. These are not actual
pictures, but we're going to go ahead
and delete them. So, here it is. Let's
go from 36.
We're not going to do 60. We're going to
do
We'll do this. We'll delete these many.
Now, this is my destination. This is
what I'm deleting. So, technically, when
I run this sync, you're going to see
this Chicago Logan Square North
Francisco January 31st, 2017 appear in
the list, but it's going to have all of
these from 38 to 59 except 57 cuz 57 is
not here. And it will
um
um
it will show you that 54-60
will not appear in this list because
it's already in the destination. So, now
let's go ahead, and then we'll just
analyze. And normally, you want to do
analyze because you want to see what's
on the left moving to the right. So, go
ahead and select analyze. This just
takes a quick moment because it's uh
even though one side is 1.6 TB, the
other one on the left side is 447 GB.
So, instead of me drag-and-dropping over
to my pictures of 2017 at destination,
instead of having duplicates called
triplets, and that normally happens.
Yes, there's an app called a duplicate
finder, but I found using the duplicate
finder is that you would have to select
each individual. And if you have 10,000
photos, you got to do each and
individual. You can do a smart lookup,
but that doesn't guarantee all of them
that are duplicate will be deleted. It
actually will delete the actual original
one.
So, this is almost done at the bottom
left here for scanning volumes.
And then once it's done, it should just
have two folders per se that uh are not
that did not sync.
So, which is the uh
What is that? January 31st one and then
there was one all the way up here, which
I don't think I have expanded. Yes, I
do.
Uh Bucktown North Elston Avenue.
All right, there you go. So, here's the
Bucktown North Elston Avenue as I stated
and there's a North Francisco January
31st, 2017.
So, as you can see, these are the ones
that I've deleted.
Now, this one here for the 31st, we
should see all the numbers, but we
should probably not see 60. So, as you
can see, there's 58,
there's 59, but there's nothing else. I
can't scroll more down. So, because 60
actually exists on the destination
and not uh
and so, these are the ones that are
missing on the destination that the
source file I've already saw. So, now we
just go ahead and select sync.
Or prior to selecting sync, you want to
select on options. When you select on
options, it actually gives you more
granular details of what backup is.
Backup, do you want to go from left to
right or you want to go from right to
left?
You can change that. Here is a check
mark. Normally, it's by default. I have
this unchecked prior to this video and
propagate deletions. So, basically, it
will delete
any of the folders or files
that are on the right side of the
destination were coming from the source.
So, if the source says, "Hey, look at
the destination and say
on the destination, the folder 1 2 3 4
doesn't exist." So, the source is going
to automatically assume, "Oh,
if it's not under the source, it's going
to delete it on the destination." So,
you want to make sure you have this box
unchecked because what if 1 2 3 4 had
some
uh files or software that you were
reviewing and that's how you name it.
You name it as
So, if you had this check mark and you
synced it, whatever's on the left, if
1234 is not on the left, on the right
sees 1234, it's going to delete 1234.
So, you don't want that. So, you make
sure on that's unchecked. These two you
can save as save deleted replace files
last version only.
Uh, you can also uncheck this if you
want for the last version only, and you
can check this one down here where it
save deleted {slash} replace files
multiple versions. So, if you have, say,
this picture down here, which was
basically showing uh, 1072 on the right
side near here to the bottom.
Uh, if you had 1072 and say you have
1072 34567.
But, correction, not with a parenthesis.
Say if you have 1072 {underscore} 1. If
it's in parenthesis, it won't even look
at that. So, it won't even account it as
another one. So,
um, so that's basically what it what
what will happen. Um, and then you can
also do a cleanup history folder after
these many days. You could select that.
So, basically what basically happens is
that it puts a cache file on the source,
cache file on the destination. So, next
time when you try to sync,
it already knows the 10,000 folders that
you've already scanned over, it knows
those are accurate. But, it's going to
still rescan those individual folders
because maybe you put something else in
it in the destination, but not in the
source. And then, it will make sure
whatever's on the left is going to match
to the right. So, let's go ahead and get
started. So, we're going to go ahead and
hit okay.
You would, after once you hit okay and
change your settings, you need to do
another analyze.
Now, there's other features up here
where it says auto run on new group. Uh,
on the older versions didn't have a new
group, did not have a auto run option.
Auto run, I'm thinking that's if you're
having data that's constantly being
generated on the source automatically or
through a camera system or so forth, you
would want the auto run on so it can
sync it over to your backup drive all
the time.
So, this is almost done.
Then it's going to find those two
folders again, the Bucktown, North
Elston, and the Logan Square, and
Francisco.
And this is also transferred all your
metadata and so forth, so everything
it's it's working. This is
And if you want to move from one
external hard drive to another, this is
a great program to use because you just
say do this to do this, run it, you can
come back in a day, two days, depending
on how much data there is. My data
transfer I just did the other day took
nine days.
And make sure your Mac doesn't go to
sleep. That's the more more important
So, there it is.
So, what we're going to do is scroll
down here
if we can find that Logan Square, North
Francisco.
Uh, January, uh, what is that? January
31st.
Here's the January 31st.
Let's open this up.
And then you're going to see in real
time
the file should appear right here under
the 5460 and above.
So, let's go ahead and sync.
It's going to start to sync process.
It's syncing.
It's almost done.
There you go. You see all the files just
appear.
So, they're they've been transferred
over. So, now the source file and the
destination are good to go. Now, my
destination is 1.6 terabytes, so that
means I've just been merging to it all
the time.
So, now I'm done with this specific
folder, so now I can Now that folder
that is 447 GB, that's taking up my hard
drive space here, in which I only have
134 gigs left. Uh I can easily delete
that because now I know with confidence
it's already on my new drive. So, I can
go ahead and delete that.
Close that and
get rid of that folder as well.
And then I can just with confidence,
since I use
this program for many, many, many years,
uh I know it's it's already synced over.
So, it's gone. So, that's great. It's
deleting it. Now, if I go back to get
info again, now of course that's going
to be increasing as you can see there.
So,
you know, I'm getting another 447
gigs, uh the 100 gig there. So, I got a
good 500 gigs now to play with. So, the
next agenda is basically now I've done
that and I put my folders here on my
desktop. I have GoPro here. So, on my
GoPro 5, I've been recording a lot of
4K. Uh 97 gigs is not a lot, but it's a
lot of editing, video editing in Final
Cut Pro. So, you know, I've been
uploading those to my YouTube channel.
So, in case you came across my YouTube
channel by accident or so forth, by just
easily going back to it by visiting iOS
Genius

And then that would redirect you over to
my YouTube channel. So, feel free to
subscribe on this video. If you have any

subscribers as we can. The 100th
subscriber from the airport run videos
that we have listed here,
uh the 100th person, right now we're at
1839, but that 100th person is going to
receive a gift card of either through
Amazon, McDonald's, or
some other store or so forth. But, feel
free to put those details in comments
down below what kind of gift card you
would like. That'd be great. And this is
