anyway? Believe it or not, there's no magic
involved. A barcode just represents a series
of alpha-numeric digits. Like this.
So when you take a soda to a cash register,
the barcode calls up an entry in the database
for that particular number. That's where prices,
descriptions, and other information about
your fizzy beverage lives.
A barcode scanner enters data just like your
keyboard would.
So instead of typing in the number, which
leaves lots of room for error, the scanner
just adds the data to your open document,
spreadsheet, or database. It's a lot easier
and faster than data entry. And way less boring.
