Installing Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) on Windows Server 2012 R2
By default, the Disk Cleanup utility is not installed on Server 2012 R2. I will show you how to install this valuable tool. This same process will apply to just Server 2012 and should work with 2008 and 2008 R2.

hello everybody i'm dan got out windows
server 2012 r2 machine here that's
starting around a little low on disk
space they're basically I've got 3.5
seven gigabytes free of my 30 gigabyte
drive here on this one here is just a
virtual machine by the way that's why
it's got such a small drive on there but
so if we want to free up some space
using the good old disk cleanup button
is not here by default default it
doesn't install the cleanup manager
there this cleanup manager so we have to
install that here on server 2012 so
let's go ahead and do that and i'll show
you guys how to do that today
first thing we're going to do is open up
the server manager then you should have
dashboard highlighted over here
ok we click add roles and features and
unfortunately do we have to blow this up
a little bit just to get that one
feature but we want to get all the way
down through these little things until
it basically get the features down here
so just do next installation type
role-based or feature-based installation
that's cool their next server selection
that's this machine right here server
roles we're going to check anything here
we don't want to do anything there we're
just going to hit next on that and
features you want to scroll down until
we see user interfaces
ok let's expand that out and see desktop
experience this is what we have to
install here and then we'll give a
little you know message here say no you
cannot install desktop experience less
the following roll roll services or
features are also installed so I was
going to go with that right whatever we
have to install a whole bunch of stuff
to get one tool so be it
alright let's go to next and
and install now this will require a
restart when it's done there so just FYI
i'm not going to select the automatic
one here so but i'm going to just go
ahead and select install on this here
the installation should go fairly quick
go ahead and pause the video here until
it's done installing ok so you can see
our installation is complete and says
you know a restart pending must restart
it to finish the installation there
okay i'm gonna go ahead and close out of
that and i'll restart my server and
pause the video and pick that back up
and that's restarted their of course if
we right-click right now and go to
properties you see we still don't have
the disk cleanup button there
ok ok my servers rebooted and chewed up
a little bit more my drive space of
course installing all out that blow
their so but go ahead and right-click on
this come down to properties now you see
i got my disk cleanup and simply going
to select that there and let's see what
what what we can clean up here
ok the disk cleanup calculated here and
i'll be able to save 880 megabytes of
disk space after after around this here
so
oh no don't give me a little further
along their stuff just going to select
ok and let it go ahead and do its thing
there so that is how you get the disk
cleanup on server 2012 probably this is
our two specific it's probably same for
2012 this basic one there too and maybe
2008 r2 as well so thanks for watching
