This is the flagship program of the AnyBook Professional Series. A full-feature

You publish a handful of titles, and your invoices live in a word processor, your inventory lives in a spreadsheet, and royalty statements get rebuilt by hand every period. AnyBook Professional Level 3 is meant to put all of that in one Windows program built for small publishers.

Quick facts

  • Version: 14.45 (Levels 1-3 share one installer)
  • Platforms: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10, 32- and 64-bit
  • Price: $239 for Level 3
  • Trial: shareware, so you can test it before you pay. The registration code is tied to your company name.

Key features

Invoices and billing statements without retyping

AnyBook generates invoices and billing statements, records customer payments and tracks consignment items. Level 3 adds batch printing of invoices and statements, and it can export invoices for emailing.

Inventory and book returns in the same place

The program tracks inventory and handles book returns, so stock counts follow what you actually ship and take back.

Royalty calculations and sales reports

It calculates royalties and produces sales reports, which is the part many publishers dread doing by hand.

Contacts, mailing lists and extras

You get an integrated contact manager, mailing lists, a weight calculator, import/export features, an internal credit card processor and two phone dialers. Level 3 also lists currency conversion, external emailing options and telephony features.

Who it's for

It suits self-publishers and small to medium-sized publishers who want a single business program for orders, stock and author payments. The vendor sells it in seven levels. If you outgrow Level 3, you can move up and keep your customer data.

Pros and cons

  • Pro: Built specifically for publishing, covering invoicing, returns, royalties and mailing lists.
  • Pro: You can try it free before paying.
  • Pro: Data carries over when you upgrade between levels.
  • Pro: The help system runs to over 1,600 pages.
  • Con: It is Windows-only.
  • Con: Level 3 is mid-range. Credit card processing over the internet is listed as optional only for Levels 4-7, and barcode reader support only for Levels 5-7.
  • Con: The installer is large, at about 93 MB.

FAQs

Is there a free version?

The vendor's Level 1 program is free. Level 3 is a paid level that you can evaluate first.

How does registration work?

Type your company name exactly as you want it on invoices and other documents. Your registration code is keyed to that name.

Will it run on a network?

The vendor says it runs on Windows-compatible networks, and the evaluation version is network enabled so you can check it on your own system.

Do I need Excel?

It isn't required, but Excel or a spreadsheet program is highly recommended.
