How to Plot a route in Google Maps and Export to Garmin

This video describes how to plot a route on Google maps and then sent it to your Garmin Satnav to navigate it.

in this video I'm going to show you how
to plot a route in google maps and then
how to export that to your Garmin device
so that you can navigate the route with
your sap
now this procedure is one that everyone
is always asking me about so is is how
to do it
so what we're going to do is we're going
to do with that of hyde park in London
in England and then we're going to
export that to our garments so that we
can do that navigation

ok and i want to go around the park so
I'm going to left-click and drag the
route so it goes around the park
there we go
so that's the route I want so the next
thing i want to do is M send that to my
Garmin device so there's a couple of
stages we have to do him and the first
one is we need to copy a link to the
root
so we go over to the left here and click
link and there where it says at the top
10 top when they're not the mhtml the
regular one you right click and click
copy
now the next thing we need is a program
called tire to travel
you can download that from em to ir e to
travel TR AV el . com
there we go I've already got it
installed so I'll just fire it up
ok safe
file
import from website
now we need to paste our URL which we
copied in the top here so we do ctrl + V
or you could right click and paste and
then we click import and that will
import the route
so now we click import again
it's asking you now do you want to
import waypoints or brute tracks in this
case we want to import route trunk so we
click OK
and that's now imported the route into
tire to travel
now the next step we need to do is to
put it onto our Garmin device
so we go to em garmin
copy to garmin
I'm going
name so I'm going to quit lap or hyde
park and 3 i'll call it cuz I've done a
few examples this we click ok now that
sent that to my government
now when I fire up my garmin and click
and my data import groups and that route
will be available to navigate
now there's another stage which I'll
show you which I do which I just think
is is good practice and that's to check
the route in basecamp first because base
camp uses the map that actually on my
Garmin device so if I check it in there
I can check it for accuracy and make any
any changes I need to so what I'll do
I'll go to file
save as and i'm going to call it
I'm hyde park loop 3 and save that as a
garmin gps exchange file now the next
thing I'm going to do is I'm going to
fire up base camp
ok this
they're from a previous our previous
demo I've done and i plugged in my
garment already so it's fine that up and
it's using the map from my my garments
i'm going to go file

going to click that Hyde Park sleep

so now if I click on the zoom tool I can
zoom in on there that route there
that
it is and hyde park loop 3 and I can
have a quick look at it
there we go so I just
remove some of the other routes and so
we can see it a bit more clearly
there we go there's a route that so now
if I pan around it we can see that's
pretty much am I correct and double
click on it and open it
and click recalculate okay there we go
now we see we've got some issues because
M because of where and Google Maps has
placed the the waypoints it wants to do
lots of different loops around here and
these are the issues i was i was telling
you about so and we send this route to
our garment as is
it's possible that this will be the
rooted plots with all of these extra
loops and so on so we need to really go
and fix those so what we can do is to
fix these is delete summer delete some
way . so i go to my eraser here and this
one we don't need and this one I think
we don't need this one here and there's
one more we don't need I think that one
yeah

and there's an extra look down at the
bottom there we don't need and and if we
zoom in over here and that one we don't
need either
those three even and there's one more i
think it's one of these two
and we
and I'll and there's a few more
I think it's the ones close to the
Junction's RM are putting it off so
we'll delete a few more days
ok
is there
there we go so
it's the act
route that we wanted so what we can do
now as well as we can go
right click on that and send to send it
to the zumo fact we'll call it
i rename it quickly so i'll go to rename
call it high partly for then right click
send to and send that to my garmin zumo
and now when i load that up on the zoom
oh it's going to be a much fairer a
reflection of this route which is the
one we actually wanted so that's
something which i think is it is good
practice and something to be aware of
when when working in this manner
so that's how to and plot a route in
google maps explored it to your garmin
and also have to check it and modify it
in base cap
