Adobe Premiere Pro for Absolute Beginners
New to Premiere Pro? In this tutorial I show you how to create a video using Adobe Premiere Pro.

There are 7 simple steps to creating your film project.
1. Create a project
First you need to create a new project. Select a location and filename to save your project file and any temporary files Adobe Premiere will create.
2. Import media
The very first thing you need to do once you created your project is to import some media. You can import video, audio, image and other types of media files - Premiere Pro is pretty flexible.
3. Create a sequence
A sequence is a container for your media files, a template that you can use to organise your clips and then export into a final video file. There are multiple ways to create a sequence. The easiest way is to drag a piece of media directly onto the 'New Item' icon.
4. Edit your project
Once you have your sequence set up you can start to drag and drop your media items into the timeline, cut out the best parts and arrange them to create your film project outline. Make sure to familiarise yourself with all of the great editing tools provided by Premiere Pro and I guarantee your editing will flow a whole lot quicker.
5. Add transitions
Transitions are used to blend between two consecutive clips. You can find a large number of transitions in Premiere Pro in the Effects panel. Open up the 'Video Transitions' folder and drag the transition you want onto the start or the cut between the clips in your sequence.
6. Add effects
In the Effects panel in Premiere Pro you will find the 'Video Effects' folder. You can find a large number of cool deformation, colour correction, styling effects inbuilt into Premiere Pro. Simply drag the effect onto the clip you want to apply them to. With the clip selected, you can tweak the effect parameter in the Effects Control panel.
7. Working with Titles
Titles are usually text elements, but can also contain icons and graphics, that overlay your footage. You can create titles by clicking on the New Item -- Title option in the project panel. In the title editor you can then define the elements in your title. Once you created the title, simply drag it from the project panel into your Sequence to use it.
8. Exporting your sequence
Once you are happy with your sequence, you can export it. Before you can export a sequence you need to place the start and end markers - you can do this by positioning the timeline indicator where you want, right clicking it and selecting 'Mark In' and 'Mark Out'. This will define the working area of your sequence and tell Premiere which parts of the sequence you want to export.
With your working area defined, make sure the sequence is selected, then go to File -- Export -- Media. Select your export format and your target filename and then set any other options that you like.
I usually like to keep my bit rate between 10 - 20. I find it gives me decent video quality at a reasonable file size.

hey guys welcome to another very
exciting tutorial if you want to get
into filmmaking the very first thing you
need
well it's going to be a camera but then
the next thing you need is going to be a
solid medicine program there are quite a
number of great options out there but my
personal weapon of choice is adobe
premiere pro Premiere Pro has everything
I need for my own food projects and even
want to try to get into the other day
how's that coming along water
excellent he'll be a pro in no time now
premier Pro is a very powerful editing
program but with great power comes great
responsibility
there are quite a number of steps
involved in getting your film footage
exported into a final video in this
basic beginner tutorial i want to take
you through the process of editing video
in adobe premiere pro from start to
finish the workflow for adobe premiere
pro is actually pretty straightforward
first you need to import some media
these are typically video files but you
can report any other type of media as
well for example images or audio files
once you've got all your files in
Premiere Pro we need to create a
sequence think of the sequence as a
placeholder for your final video or
container for you media with a specific
resolution and frame rate in the
sequence you have a number for your own
video tracks and into these tracks you
can add all of the fact that you've
imported in any order that you want you
can then move them around you can stack
them on top of each other and you can
apply transitions between consecutive
clips Premiere Pro comes with a large
number of in the effects anything from
color correction to artistic filters
that you can apply freely to any element
in your sequence
once you're happy with your sequence you
can export it into a final video file
that you can then take away to your
friends or your family to show off
sounds pretty simple right let's fire up
adobe premiere pro so I can take you
through an actual practical example
welcome to my desktop let's fire off
premiere pro when you start premiere pro
you will see a little welcome screen you
can select one of your previous projects
or what we're going to do
create a new one so select the new
project option to create any project you
will have to tell premier a few things
about the project you want to create
first off is the name
that's called this one tutorial next you
can find a location for your project
pick the folder where you want premier
to save your project far as well as any
temporary faceted creates i'm just going
to stick it into my project folder which
is premiere pro for absolute beginners
there are a number of other options that
you can select for example whether to
use GPU acceleration for the playback
off your video which I would always
recommend if you have this option
available other than that you can set
things like the video and audio format
but i'm not going to go into that for
now
simply click OK if you're running an
earlier version of premiere pro you may
see another pop-up appear this pop-up
they asked you to create a sequence as i
mentioned before a sequence is just a
container for all your media i will show
you in a second how to create and work
with sequences so if you do see a second
pop up asking you to create a sequence
just click cancel the premiere pro
interface contains quite a large number
of different panels
now depending on which version of
premiere pro you are using there may be
arranged slightly differently or look
slightly differently but all of the Pens
are going to use for this tutorial you
wouldn't have available in your version
of premiere pro now that we've created a
brand new project the very first thing
we need to do is import some media
there are two simple ways to import
media files into your project
locate the project panel in new
interface and then simply double-click
on some empty space within it
this will bring up the import dialog in
this download he can browse your fault
is to locate the media files that you
want to import
I've got a couple of them collected here
in my tutorial folder for now I'm just
going to select these three video clips
here which come from ours on behind a
short film and hit open to import them
BAM my fans have not been imported into
my project if you can see the icons for
your media files at the bottom of your
project panel there are two little
switches to decide whether you want to
show the contents of this folder in a
list or an icon view in I can view you
can hover your mouse over these clips to
scrap through the content of the video
files
let's quickly returned to the list view
as you import more media into your
project it can get quite messy so in
Premiere Pro you can easily create
folders to manage you mean
here to create a new folder at the
bottom of the project panel simply click
the new bin item
let's be really creative and call this
folder footage then select the three
video files with just important and drag
them into the footage folder
damn that's a little bit better
organized the second way to import media
into your project is simply to select
the folder that contains your media and
drag the files that you want to import
into your project panel
BAM you have just important an audio
file and an image file once you have all
the media that you need imported into
your project it's time to trade is
sequence when you create a new sequence
Premiere Pro will ask you to define
things like the resolution the frame
rate the pixel aspect ratio in all sorts
of other details which can get a little
bit confusing if you're just starting
out the easiest way to create a new
sequence is actually to take one of the
video files that you want to work with
hold down your mouse button and drag it
onto the new item icon at the bottom of
the project panel
BAM premier pool will create your brand
new sequence the settings of this
sequence will exactly match the video
file that he used to create it
you will also notice that the video file
that you dragged onto the icon has
already been added into the sequence in
our project panel you will see the new
sequence here that has been created next
to our media file that we used to create
it
let's drag this one out of the footage
folder because it's not really a piece
of footage in the sequence and let's
rename it to tutorial to rename any item
in the project panel simply selected
press ENTER and give it a new name now
let's use our sequence to create a small
video project the clip in the sequence
is a video from our zombie hunter short
film as you can see it contains many
many takes most of them really horrible
and blue / e but at what's the end
there's one take that alive one take
that actually want to keep I want to cut
this little piece there is very little
section at the end out of the video and
throw the rest away
you may notice that this video actually
has two layers the reason there are two
layers is because the top one is the
image the actual video and the bottom
one is actually the audio layer for this
video if you work with any video that
has an audio track Premiere Pro will
import them and deal with them as if
there were one item and they will always
be linked together
let's go back a little bit and let's cut
the video and this point just before
entering the shot for that in the tool
box you will find them by
the tool simply select the eraser tool
and then click on the video layer that
you want to split at the location you
want to cut it
BAM the video layer has been split in
two you can hold down alt and scroll the
mouse wheel to zoom in on to your
sequence change back to the selection
tool by selecting it from the toolbox
let's move forward a little bit until
just where i'm leaving the scene about
here and let's select the eraser tool
again
you can also use the shortcut key C and
then cut a video clip at the current
cursor location
go back to the selection tool by
pressing be on your keyboard and you
will see i now have three pieces i have
the before peace
I have the actual clip I want to keep
and I have a little bit of a tail that I
want to throw away as well let's delete
the tail and the beginning so we're only
left with a little section that we want
to keep out of this video zoom back out
by holding down the Alt key and
scrolling with the mouse wheel
obviously this clip alone doesn't make a
video you need other clips as well and
let's drag some of the other videos that
are imported into the project into this
sequence
simply select the piece of media in your
project panel and drag it anywhere into
this sequence this clip contains a
first-person shot of be approaching the
concrete pillar again I probably don't
want to use the whole clip so let's cut
out a little bit just as I'm approaching
the pillow me from here go back to the
razor tool by pressing see that your
clip for what
so maybe about here and because we still
have the resident selected kept the
video layer again as before change back
to the selection tool by pressing V and
then delete the beginning and the end of
the video layer if you zoom out and
scrub through your sequence you notice
that there are large stretches of black
which is obviously not what we want
so let's take these snippets that we've
cut out and drag them to the beginning
of the sequence and align them properly
you will notice that premiere pro
usually snacks clips together so they
align perfectly move the timeline
indicator back to the beginning of the
sequence and play you sequence back by
pressing space
you can pause the playback at any point
of time but
then let me quickly add one more clip
into this sequence
yeah I have a very small detail shot
just of my shoes and I just want to use
this very short section where I'm about
to make the move again zoom in and cut
the piece that you want to keep
now this little clip i actually want to
insert into the middle of this
particular one are probably want to have
the shoe macro shot appeared just about
here just as I'm about to make the move
for that create a new cut in your video
layer move this piece forward and let's
drag this little section right in the
middle there and realign them
let's want the video and play this back
now these edits really don't align at
all to fix this up let's simply trim out
a little bit of the section of the very
last trip i am still standing at the
pillar
you can also extend any clip in your
sequence by dragging the corners left
all right let's extend the very last
little bit towards the right so that's a
little bit of a tail we're moving away
from the pillar
let's rewind and play this back
now that's
not perfect but I don't want to go into
too much detail i really just want to
show you the basics of premier pro
next let's talk about transitions you
see transitions in videos all the time
this smooth cross dissolves dips to
Black's additive transitions all sorts
of cool ways to blend from one clip into
another premiere pro contains a large
number of transitions that you can very
easily apply to the clips in your
sequence
you will find these transitions in the
effects panel in the effects panel you
will find a number of folders for
different audio and video effects you'll
also find a folder called video
transitions
expand this folder and you will see a
number of different categories for
different types of transitions one of
the most common one under the dissolved
folder is probably the cross dissolve
the way to apply transitions to your
clips is simply to select them and like
anything else in premier just drag them
onto your clips you can apply them to
the beginning of a clip or if there's a
transition between two different clips
just drag it onto the actual transition
between the clips and let go
BAM let's zoom in a little bit you will
see the premiere pro edit a cross
dissolve to fade from one clip to the
next
if you scrub through this transition you
will see that one layer fades very
nicely into the next one
you can also control the duration of
these transitions simply double-click on
the actual transition and a little
Donald box will pop up the duration is
currently set to one second
let's change this to a half a second
since the video we are working with has
actually been filmed at 24 frames per
second we need to enter 12 to define
half a second then hit OK immediately
will notice that the size of the trust
dissolve has half and if you scrub
through this effect now the transition
is only half as long
let's zoom back out and let's add a
little fade from black at the beginning
of our video submitted fades in nicely
from black the transition for that is
called dip to black so simply select the
dip to black transition and drag it onto
the beginning of the first clip in your
sequence
BAM let's play this back
cool our video is now fading in from
black
not only does premiere pro contain a
large number of transition it also
contains a large number of great video
effects in the effects panel and the
video effects you will find a large
range of different types of effects
I've got a whole bunch of different
plugins and so that you may not see but
there's different styles ations
transformations distortion effects and
all sorts of other cool stuff that you
can play with one of the arguably most
useful ones are the effects for color
correction i have separate tutorials
available on my channel that talk about
color correction and color grading and i
will put some links into the description
of this video
expand the color correction effects and
search for the fast color corrector like
anything else in order to apply in
effect to a clip all you have to do is
select it and drag it onto the clip that
you want to apply it to
let's drag it on the current clip that
is under our timeline indicator within
your interface somewhere you will find
an effect control panel
the effect control panel will show you
the settings and the effects applied to
the currently selected clip
if you select a different clip for
example even known as well we didn't
apply to ask character to this one but
if we select the one that we applied the
first color corrector to you will find
the settings for the first color
corrector in the effects control panel
every effect as a whole bunch of
different settings and you can't we can
play around with her for example it's
you know change this video color you'll
see you'll turn blue if we drag this
over here on to the blue side let's
scroll down a little bit and maybe let's
check out the contrast little bit to
make this look a little bit more
dramatic
there's all sorts of cool stuff you can
do it is a large range of different
video affecting and apply to clips play
around with them and try them out and
see what they do and just have some fun
with it
now that we've created a sequence we've
added our video into it we've created
traditions and we added effects
the last thing you may want to do is add
some titles titles are usually text
elements but they can be graphics as
well that's it on top of your footage
layer to create a title return to your
project panel and under the new item tap
if you actually click this you'll get a
whole bunch of different options to
create a sequence which was just it but
one of those options is a title so let's
select to create a new title you will
have to define a resolution as well as a
few other settings for Tyler's but for
now let's just leave this after fault
the name is fine let's keep calling this
title one and hit OK Premiere Pro will
now bring up
title editor this editor allows you to
place text elements draw graphics do all
sorts of crazy things to define the
contents of your title for now let's
simply select the text tool and click
into the preview window to add some text
let's change the font to something a
little bit more dramatic maybe we'll go
within the gothic and let's type some
text
switch back to the selection tool and
you can drag the front around on the
right hand side you can find all sorts
of properties or you can fly title
effects' that will go crazy here just
play around and have some fun once you
done editing you titled simply close the
title editor i click on the little X at
the top right hand corner
now you may be wondering we just created
this title why do not see it in my extra
preview window
the reason is that the time we created
actually just ended up in our project
panel in order to use the title you
still have to drag it into sequence and
position it where you want to notice how
i'm placing this title of bath my base
video that is to ensure that the title
actually appears on top of the video
doesn't just replace it
since x aesthetic elements you can
extend them it at will by just dragging
the sides to any length that you want
the title will only be visible for the
duration of this layer
as with any other clip in your sequence
you can add transitions and effects to
it to you know stylists titles in any
way that you want
you may have noticed that not all of the
elements are imported into my project
actually video files
i have also imported one image it's an
audio file into my project premiere pro
is pretty flexible in the evening is
almost any type of media within your
project and to use it new sequence you
simply have to drag it in here for
example i fended the Grunch image which
is just a really dirty vignette kind of
effect on top of all my videos
let's extend the end of this layer to
the very end of my video so that I've
got the Grunch effect going throughout
my entire video and you will notice it
even sits on top of the title because
while in my sequence it sits on top of
the tide layer finally let an audio into
the project you can actually expand the
lanes in your sequence by dragging the
top of the bottom border up or down
for example if you expand line for an
audio file you will see the actual audio
waveform if you expand a video lane you
will see little . near said indicate the
piece of footage that is sitting in
their lane
you may have noticed that before i was
turning on and off the visibility of
different video layers by clicking on
this little guy I can hear you can use
it to show and hide any video layer
while you're working with it all you
know for your final export for the audio
lanes you will see a little m this am
actually stands for mute and you can
enable the switch to turn off the audio
for that track for example i don't
actually want to hear the audio with the
video that I recorded on my camera I
really just want to play the audio track
that i've just added
so let's mute the audio for the video
layers that are added
finally because the audio extends way
past my video let's trim the end down
so everything ends at the same time
let's go back to the beginning of the
sequence and play this back
very dramatic once you're happy with
your sequence you can export it when you
want to export a sequence you first need
to tell premier where you sequence
starts and where it ends for that you
need to define the start and end markers
if the timeline indicator to the very
beginning of your sequence right click
on the head of the timeline indicator
and select mark in then move the
timeline indicator to the position where
you want the video to end right click on
to the little trick hat and select mark
out the area between these two markers
has been defined as our work area and
when we now export the sequence it will
be premier will know that this is the
area of the sequence that we want to
export in order to export the sequence
go back to your project panel make sure
that the sequence you want to export is
selected and then go up into the main
menu and select file export media
this will bring up the export dialog on
the left hand side you have a little
preview window and at the bottom you
have a little time line you can scrape
through this time not to verify that
what you are about to export is what you
actually want to export over on the
right hand side you will find a large
number of export settings and yes things
can get a little bit confusing
in my opinion however there are only a
few settings if you really need to care
about the first one is the format this
option defines the format of your output
file for example it may be an avi it may
be in my movie in mp4 a gift sequence or
any other form of output for my exports
I usually prefer to select the h.264
option next because I don't really want
to set all of these options manually I
usually like to select a preset and the
preset option
yeah I'm not sure you can see this
there's a huge amount of different
presets for different resolution
different frame rates for different
devices and one of the opposite i have
actually been added in the later
versions of premier options for youtube
so i usually like to select the option
youtube 1080p HD next you will define
way to output far to simply click on the
output name a small dialog box will pop
up and here you can define where you
want to output the file - and you can
give it a name for me the name is fine
next very important the two options to
enable exporting the video track and
exporting the audio track
if you go further down into the settings
you will see basically settings which
determine the width and the height of
the exported video
- going to be exported at 1080p at Full
HD and a little bit further down there's
one more setting that I usually care
about and that is my bid rate the bit
rate determines the level of compression
a very high bit rate will mean the video
will get exported and very very good
quality but it also means that the size
of the exported video will be very large
by reducing the betrayed you are
reducing the quality of the exported
video but they are also reducing file
size
personally i usually leave the betrayed
somewhere between 10 and 20
I found that it gives me a pretty good
video quality at a reasonable file size
you may have to play around with the
settings a little bit until you find
options that you know just work well for
you
finally premiere pro would actually give
you an estimate on what it thinks the
file size will be like mine is currently
estimated to be 25 megabytes
now this is actually pretty small but
remember our videos really just about 20
seconds long
once you happy with only settings click
the export button it will be pretty will
now export your video and this may take
a while depending on the length of your
video of the complexity and the power of
your computer once the export process
has completed
navigate to the folder where you
exported the video to play this clip
back and enjoy your first completed
premiere pro video project
yeah
it's really not that complicated and it
certainly certainly should not set the
computer on fire
I really hope you . this tutorial as
always if you have any comments
questions or suggestions just leave them
down in the section below
please remember to subscribe by clicking
on the floating subscribe button up
there hit that like button and share the
video around it really helps out a lot
and if you want to see more
