UCS Tech Talk - "Meet the Engineer" - What's New in IMC Supervisor v1.1

Join Cisco for a discussion on the features and capabilities of the new Cisco Integrated Management Controller (IMC) Supervisor version 1.1. This new release was developed on top of v1.0, which provides centralized monitoring, inventory and basic management functions for select standalone C-Series (M3/M4) and E-Series Servers (M1/M2). In this session we will cover the background, architecture, use cases and use of this new offering which includes the following capabilities:
 
- Summary of what is new in v1.1
- Policy Based Configuration – Hardware Policies and Profiles
- Email Alerting enhancements
- Firmware Management
 
In this session we will not only demonstrate the new capabilities in this management platform, but also provide pointers to additional information and resources.

so so enhancing on a couple of the
capabilities in 1900 the first did email
alerting so email alerting enhancements
include the ability to configure
multiple profiles so if you want to have
an administrator that has email alerts
configured for a particular severity or
particular server or set of servers the
new email procup capability gives you
granularity individual scenario levels
and also individual group so you could
have an administrator that has very very
granular email notifications other
second is related to firmware
management's so with family management
we've made it even easier to hold down
Cisco firmware images from cio.com so by
entering your Cisco credentials or CCO
credentials we now enable directories
from supervisor the ability to download
firm are bundles and streamlines the
process you can download rates from the
interface and it will present you a list
of the available images referers system
so that's that's another new capability
and then third is hardware profiles and
the ability to configure a server
through a policy framework either with
the water more so that's really the
major feature a major thrust at the

customers across both the CSeries are
rack-mount servers as well as the
e-series servers and users that it in
the back of ISR routers adopting IMC
supervisor in particular where they're
running
remote office branch office operations
and meet a small number of systems for
sale
file and print services so that's that's
a use case you seen strong adoption or
another one that we've seen very strong
adoption for is retail where we've got
customers of I have just one or two
systems or site and and then they want
to be able to manage them from a single
pane of glass and then we do have
customers that are running using more
traditional environments but but I would
say that the key adoption point is the
other retail remote office branch office
of the agency if you're looking at the
e-series you might have just an ISR and
one or two of those very small ESR sir E
Series servers in the ISR great so you
can talk about the hardware policies
profiles a room can you tell us more

detail is the ability to manage power
and KVM and that happened largely on an
individual basis so you could select the
server and the Monitoring tab and then
powered on but that require generate
interactive processes you wanted to turn
on say ten or fifteen servers through
your remote so that multi-select at
capabilities for our controls and KVM
something I don't including warning
before the firmware update so we talked
a little bit about the firmware updates
and how are making it very easy and
streamlined for users to download that
image from CCL and then pushed that
outside their environment so with great
power comes great responsibility and and
a warning in this case so just letting
customers know that more deployments
because of the mechanisms are using with
with our NIH you are not interactive
host update utility will require an
outage to consume the new BIOS and some
of the firmware so you've got a call
warning there for customers
tagging so tagging the concept we also
covered in and one-dot one but it allows
metadata to be associated with the
server so we're allowing that now at the
global perspective of the global groups
and then the last item due to popular
demand and feedback from customers who
deployed
including support for hyper-v so today
we're supporting the empire spanning
support to include be hyper-v platform
so that's what we've got coming in the
in the near future and then one other
item worth mentioning is actually
related to UCS director so UCS director
is a a larger orchestration product that
encompasses are more capabilities but
because of the commonality in the
framework between supervisor and
director and the enhancements that we've
made here we've actually pulled those
enhancements into the director product
opry so for those customers that have
server licenses for director you'll be
able to take advantage
supervisor and going forward we will
continue to enhance supervisor on one
track and then as warranted pull those
features across into UCSB tractor to
make sure that for that premium
orchestration data center level tour we
have a possibility is that customers who
are running IMC supervisor are able to
are able to benefit from so just
providing more consistency across the
portfolio winner and that's great Jeff
so if a customer where do I go to get
started I would like to get role so best
place to go is cisco.com in the past
we've offered so in the window product
we had a 60 day trial 450 servers
we have continued to have that in 1981
the difference being that the license
capability is embedded and that
capability starts on deployment so if
you wanna go out kick the tires start to
work with the policies and profiles as

limited scope bases we do support that
see you can get an understanding of the
capabilities become familiar with the
interfaces and and and be able to do
that without a separate license keys so
those customers that are interested I
