Living Room Design With Susanna Salk: A Valorie Hart Room

In her book, 'Be Your Own Decorator,' design expert Susanna Salk showcased the rooms of more than 75 acclaimed designers to illustrate the fundamentals of good interior design.

In this video, Salk talks about a living room designed by Valorie Hart and demonstrates how readers can re-create the room's eclectic beauty using Ballard Design pieces.

I'm not a designer I'm not a formally
trained designer at all but I've been
lucky enough to be exposed to some of
the best design work for the past 10 15
years and I've used designers work to
help me do my own home
this Valerie hard living room which I
featured in my book is one of my
favorites because it was filled with so
much personality and it's vintage and
its high and low and it's also amazingly
well edited
so I want to help you recreate the
spirit of that from using sand dollar
designs pieces
first of all of that clock I mean that
is really acts like the mirror of the
rum it really grounds it i love that
it's over that so it kind of centers
everything
this could work it's rusted it's paired
down that looks a lot like the picture
and we found the linear Walker Ballard
Designs it was just just fits the bill
I like how this sofa
it's serious but it's also whimsical and
it doesn't have a pattern it's all white
we found something pretty much identical
I love the detail on to those curved
arms
you know in the picture there's that
cute little full-out park cafe chair
yeah and then on it she had this great
long pillow with murders on it so I need
something whimsical now
ok I kind of love this the camping
folding chair was a nice little surprise
i love how it's just extra seating it
welcomes people in the Sieber rug that
is really that great finishing touch
that surprised
whoo it's perfect it's not like two
black-and-whites get but its exotic even
if you can only do one thing
get that great road with a lot of
personality and you know I've never met
a fever broke that I didn't love
the reason why all these different items
exist together because they've been
placed there with 11 confidence
there's a happy feeling to this room
that once we put all the pieces together
definitely mirrors what Valerie did
