hi I'm Lisa Reese interior decorator and
home stager and today we're at a 6,000
square-foot custom home
that is absolutely gorgeous and just
dying to show you some of the tips and
tricks that you might use in your own
home
so one of the things I wanted to point
out is when you walk into a room like
this
you want to look for focal points if
you're trying to resell your home
what are the areas that people are going
to be drawn to and you want to make sure
that those places are not cluttered so
for example here we have a fireplace
that's a focal point
this beautiful windows a focal point and
this stunning coffered ceiling is
definitely a focal point and it sort of
frames the entire room
so if you take a look at our before shot
the furniture was placed right up
against the wall and in a room of this
height and this size it makes the room
look very vacant so we pulled the
furniture into the middle of the room as
you can see and right away
the room looks a lot more inviting one
of the things you'll notice the
fireplace which is a very much a focal
point of this room was having
competition from the television the
television was kind of invading on the
space of the fireplace
so what i've done here is i've just
tucked it off to the corner and it fits
very nicely in this little Manish and
now with fireplace has its proper focal
point and if you recall the previous
sofa set was black
it was quite dark and it didn't feel
inviting in the room
so now you'll see what I've done here
we've got a light carpet a darker
ottoman / coffee table and then a light
sofa and then the pillows dark again and
then you can see the frame on the wall
is dark again so you can see that
there's a balance in the room as opposed
to just a dark pit of furniture
something to be careful of when you're
decorating quite often in a large room
you want to create little vignettes
so in this case the sectional is so
large it took up a large part of the
room but we also wanted to create and
reading nucs so if you take a look at
our lounger really achieve that to space
where someone can just sit quietly and
read while the rest of the family's
watching TV
remember to keep some of these tips in
mind when you're staging your decorating
