Steve here and in this video I want to take you through transferring email from one
computer to another computer
it's the kind of thing you do when you
purchase a new computer and you need to move
all email off the old computer and
onto the new computer.We're actually going to
move from one computer to another
computer and will also change
email clients when we do it so we
are going to go from Outlook Express
on the old computer to
Windows Live Mail on the new computer
that's because
Outlook express is no longer supported
on Windows seven and so if you are
moving from
old XP machine to a Windows 7 machine
you'll need to use another email client
so it consists of three
parts we need to first export the
email accounts that we use then
export the contents and then we
need to export the actual emails
themselves
and obviously we going do the reverse
when we go to the new computer
We are going to import the email accounts import the contents
sorry Contacts and import the emails
but in this video we just going to
concentrate on the export side
so let's start by exporting the email
accounts so
to do that we go to Outlook Express
tools
and to go to accounts. go to mail
highlight the account. I have only got one
email account here and a click Export
it already gives it a name here
Now what I've done is a created a
folder on my desktop call transfer
and I suggest you do the same thing I'm
going put all my
export files into this folder so I'm
going to save
that file there and that's it I'm done
and then I'm going to export my contents
sorry contacts the exports
and we're gonna go for the address book
and
text file export now
I'm gonna put it back into this folder
here and I'm gonna call it
exports a and
save it i'm happy with
the selection here if you need to select
more
you want to include the first name last
name middle name etc just
tick the appropriate boxes and then
click Finish
and then it is exported
so we done they're nice and quick now
you can't use the export
facility here to export messages because
it will only export to Microsoft Outlook
or Microsoft Exchange and
we're not doing that we going to
be importing them into Windows Live
Mail so we can't use that
so let's just cancel that and what we
need to do is do it manually and to do
that we need to actually
transfer the database files now to
find the database files we go to tools
options maintenance store folder
and here is the location of the file so
we highlight that press control C to
copy it
now just okay that we can cancel that
now if you go to the start
run and just paste it in there. It's already
pasted in there
and OK it now it opens up
and you can see here's the location here in the window here
you can use my computer to navigate to
it
If I can find my computer
you can do it the manual way
gut it's easier to go to run command
now what we want is the actual folder
itself so we need to go up
folder and that's what we want
so I'm just going to right click that and copy it and now I'm going to the
transfer folder
and I'm gonna pasted into there and
there it is there
and just opened up a just checked it's
in there.There it is
the database files. there are the dot dbx files
okay so I've got my three export falls
now what I need to do that now with
these experts I need to actually copy
them onto a memory stick so I can
transfer them over to the computer
so the last stage is the copy these
onto s removable drive
okay that is the end of this part of the
transfer and in the next video will look at
the import side
