very often the case that you need to
send more than one PDF to somebody you
need to send a few when you need to send
a collection of various documents all
related to the same event or situation
or maybe know all the files you want to
send to prospective clients or to a new
employee
there's a number of ways to do that with
acrobat probably one of the most common
ways is to send one PDF with a bunch of
attachments but a much more elegant way
is to actually create a portfolio in
Acrobat that's been around since version
9 portfolio doesn't have anything to do
with you know like photography portfolio
is actually the name for a single PDF
that can include various other files
within it kind of like PDF rapper and to
the end
recipients they just receive one PDF
that's attached to an email they double
click it and they immediately have
access to all the files inside they can
preview them or they can open them
really cool it's very easy to create a
portfolio let's do that in this video
you can see that right at the get-go
you can choose either to create a PDF or
create a PDF portfolio
you can also choose from the create menu
PDF portfolio and if you watched my
video on combining files you will
remember there's a radio button right
there you change your mind you I don't
want to combine everything into a single
PDF let's just grab it all in a
collection like a portfolio click cancel
and i'm just going to create a PDF
portfolio right here we need you so it's
a very simple wizard just want to know
two things one what layout you want to
use and to which files you want to
include and the best part is that you
don't have to know for sure you can just
choose one and then once the portfolio's
created you can go ahead and change the
layout a different files and so on so
we'll look at all these different
layouts in a bed right now let's just
choose grid and then we're going to
click add files and i have a bunch of
files that we can use
I'm just going to select a see let's get
the employee handbook and I'm holding
down the control key to select multiple
files an excel file brochure and one
more PDF this one and click open
an acrobat puts them all together and
show you what it's going to look like in
the layout that you chose in this case
we chose grid he so essentially a
portfolio contains previews of all the
files that are continuing the portfolio
down here but it's still one simple PDF
portfolio to that PDF is the temporary
file name and gave it and then you can
go ahead and customize it with different
layouts different themes and color
palettes backgrounds you can add content
and folders you can add a banner at the
very top with your logo with some type
gonna be looking at all that in this
chapter but for now let's take a look at
the different portfolio layouts and
themes this is the grid layout
there's also a click-through layout just
kind of like a little light table where
you have a strip at the bottom showing
you small previews so you select one of
these you see a larger preview here or
you can use the right or left arrows to
go to cycle through we have free form
layout which is kind of like a whole
bunch of photographs spread out on a
desk you know and you can drag them
around and move them in different
positions
however you like and so like if you want
to add another file click add files go
ahead and add think we have NDA yet just
added it right there and so I'd rather
have that right down here and then put
that one over here someone grid we saw
linear and wave are kind of the same in
that it shows you know a PDF coming in
and then the old ones going out and this
one it has a strip at the bottom for
linear and what's also interesting about
linear is that you can put a little bit
of descriptive text its optional for
each one of the files that are inside
the portfolio and wave wave is very
modern and as you select files the ones
that you just looked at a piercer of
like fading off in the distance and you
can see the ones coming in like a wave
or you can just click down here and they
move
kind of fun after you choose a layout
let's try the click-through kind of like
that one you can choose a different
visual theme
these are the same visual themes that
you can apply to different layouts you
can bounce back and forth like for
example if we look at the spring visual
thing that the click-through layout you
could also look at the spring visual
theme with the grid layout didn't
remember it
let's come back here to the spring
there we go and we also have the modern
visual theme want to go back to click
through and then we'll try the
elasticity and the translucent visual
theme you can import custom themes and
custom layouts these things can be
created in flex and illustrator so adobe
assume that they're going to be lots of
people who are creating these and
offering them for free download for sale
which i'm looking forward to but in the
meantime these are really nice start
working with in addition to layouts and
themes you can also choose different
color palettes so this is the current
palette but you can choose a different
one to give a slightly different look
and tone to your portfolio and you can
even create your own pallets down here
so once you've selected a color palette
a visual theme and a layout and you've
added all the files that you want to add
then your portfolio is basically done of
course you can customize it will be
talking about in another video in this
chapter you can add a header with your
company name and artwork you can add a
background picture you can add details
about each file but essentially all you
need to do is choose a layout add your
files change the theme or color palettes
if you'd like and that's about it so
just go ahead and save this save
portfolio i'll save it on the desktop as
well call it employee packet and then we
go ahead and send it out
