If Stereo Mix does not display, please try the solutions provided here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.... Some of the newer laptops may have problems with stereo mix. Updating the drivers may work for you. Before updating, please don't forget to create a system restore point. I have not come across this problem and I don't know how to solve this problem. This is just a suggestion.

description i have used windows 2007
but you can use this method for most of
the versions of windows open audacity
i have used an offline audio in this

the procedure is the same for all the
audio for internet or streaming audio
play the audio and click the recording
button in audacity
let me play the audio and let us see
what happens when we click the recording
button in audacity
oops there seems to be no audio recorded
the problem is stereo mix is not enabled
in my computer
let's see how to enable it go to system
tray in the right hand side bottom
corner click the speaker icon click
mixer and system sounds
the sound box will open click
bring in that box look stereo mix has
been disabled
let's enable it just right click on
stereo mix and click Enable
once you have enabled it you can see it
active
click OK and close the mixer box
now you can see stereo
drop down menu of microphone icon of
audacity
that's it now you can report any audio
coming out of your system with audacity
select the stereo mix option let me play
the audio once again
let's see how audacity behaves after
clicking on the record button
now you can see that audacity has
captured the sound playing in my
computer
let me go over the controls in audacity
for you you can stop the recording by
clicking on the square box and pause the
recording by clicking the pause button
play the recording using the play arrow
button
let's save the recorded audio click file
and then export give your music a name
the default file extension is mp3 if you
want you can select the other options
click Save
click OK and your music will be saved
remember that if stereo mix is not
selected
