Quick Tip-Throttle Cleaning - EricTheCarGuy
This one goes out to BowlingBallOut who posted a question about a sticky throttle on his Saturn. It was a great question so I decided to make this video in response to it. There are many different configurations of throttle assemblies but for the most part if you have a throttle that is sticking you might be able to fix it using the procedures in this video. I am aware you may not able to purchase spray throttle cleaner in some states now but I'm sure they have some alternative available at your local parts store.
One very important note here is that if you have a drive by wire throttle (DBW), then I do NOT recommend this procedure. If you perform this procedure on a DBW throttle body you may need to have the throttle reset in order to get your engine to idle or even start. I only recommend this procedure if you're trying to correct a problem with a sticking throttle.
If you have idle problems, I recommend you check out this article on my website.

yeah
hello and welcome to yet another quick
tip from air cargo
today I'm going to be doing sort of a
video response to my good friend bowling
ball out of heaven he would ask me about
a sticky throttle on his saturn the
number one cause of this is basically
gum up or just varnish that builds up
around the throttle plate itself and as
it tries to move it gets stuck and can't
quite move
so you get that initial hard push on the
pedal so here's a quick and easy way to
take care of that problem
part 1 we need to get access to the
throttle plate which is the rebels
rubber snorkel in the way we need to
remove that in order to get to the
throttle plate itself
next you want to spray a little bit of
throttle cleaner up on the inside and
also as you do it
open the throttle up and really get down
in there up take a rag
sir
being around the top the bottom
yeah
ok
make sure it's all nice and clean down
in there
you done put this back
yeah
now you don't need to spray so much in
there that you basically flood the
engine now if you go to try and start it
is difficult to start cold gas pedal all
the way to the floor
why you crank the engine this will put
it into what's called clear flood mode
and it probably should start but you
don't need to use a lot mostly what
you're doing is cleaning up with a rag
also some throttle bodies have a special
coating on the outside of them that they
do not want certain throttle cleaners
sprayed onto it is usually a big warning
sticker on the top of those things and
most of the time I've seen them on the
boards
what is a special cleaner that you need
to use I don't know if the later
cleaners or whatever
universal or what have you in fact in
some states i think California and New
York and like that I don't even think
they make aerosol anything like this
anymore but you just need to find some
kind of cleaner that you can get down
there and get that gunk out so you can
get rid of that Ridge of of stuff it's
built up causing your throttle does
stick anyway
american car guy I hope this tip was
