This presentation introduces seven free technology tools that enable teachers of all content areas to embed the literacy skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening into their instruction and facilitate the use of higher level thinking skills with their students.

a science classroom a social studies
classroom
a health class room when you talk about
teaching literacy
you're talking about reading writing
speaking and listening
so these tools are able to keep the
content love the subject
well using those skills in reading
writing speaking and listening
and all tools here are free so the first
2i wanna talk about
is subtext subtext isn't you reading
program for k12 schools
for educators can embed questions
discussion prompts polls
videos and weblinks in digital text it
used to just be an iPad app
but now it also has website access as
well
and again you can't use that text
additional tax and all the students can
access the same questions they can
answer polls you can embed video that
shows them something
about be taxed right there in the
margins
so subtext is or even interactive easy
reader
for students when you're talking about
some of the advantages
students begin to read closely and with
purpose
and the assessment can be right at the
point everyting
each question that you're asking can be
right there where their
reading that text on the only drawback
I would a mention is that each student
needs to have access to the app on
you the iPad or be able to access the
website
so if you're assigning homework in our
love your students have
devices at home this might be I'm
a problem but if you're able to get
access in the classrooms
or if you're able to provide um
classroom
use for those jeans you can get theirs
done at home com subtext is a really
powerful tool

what that writing is
so if you are a high school teacher you
could say I don't want you submit it to
release reads
seventh or eighth grade reading levels
or something so that you have sort of a
floor fight you expecting for example
um it could be used by teachers
who are some engineer for writing or
students am it could be something you

to use or just make them aware and
about it a key be helpful in in college
classes and other things we like to
writing
computer editing of course isn't perfect
it's not the same as somebody
who knows what they're talking about
they can customize their
their advice because it is a computer
trying to flag things

but in high school when you're talking
about this content subjects
students might rightly re non-fiction
maybe a story of a scientific process
or in a vent their study in social
studies or
and some person in history to their bed
students are studying in any content
on subject on this story what happened
to your lines if you smoke if you're in
a health class I mean really could be
any kind of story that's told there's
something about having these pictures
that's really helpful for students
can get those creative thoughts going
I'll of course creating anything is the
highest level I'll that revised Bloom's
taxonomy
so if you're having students create
something on the subject they have to
really know that subject
on that really know that person or that
events in history or whatever it was to
be a great book
and stews love to be creative they they
enjoy this more than
write an essay saying all the things
that happen and and
on it's free but an account is needed
in other words the same setup required
to set up to arm
accounts for students so there's no
charge for just be aware you
you don't wanna plan on going to lead to
do story but one day and you haven't
done a little bit in the lead
