Using chkdsk to fix a corrupted SD card.
Sooner or later, everyone will experience a corrupted memory card in their camera. This is a short tutorial that provides at least one solution to this problem.
Please note. ChkDsk won't fix all of the problems with SD Cards. Please don't Dislike this video if it doesn't work for you. It may be that your SD card is beyond fixing, as they do go bad.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
. Notes:
Sometimes you may receive the following error when using ChkDsk:
"The type of filesystem is RAW"
This means that ChkDsk cannot identify the filesystem, which usually results from a corrupted SD card that ChkDsk cannot fix. If you receive this error, the problems are beyond ChkDsk's ability to fix them.
One thing to point out - this is not a 100% fix. If your computer does not recognize the SD card, it may be corrupted beyond the ability of ChkDsk to fix it. If this occurs, the LAST RESORT is to format the card, then run ChkDsk.
When you format the card, it should be readable again - but all of your photos will be gone. However, as long as you do a "quick format" in Windows (leave that box checked), a file recovery utility such as "Recuva" (you can download it free) can recover the files.
However, if you do a long format in Windows - or select low-level format in a Canon camera, you will NOT be able to recover the files using Recuva or any other file recovery utility.
Since there is a chance of losing your files, formatting then recovering files can be a lengthy process, and should be only considered as a last resort.
Also, if you don't have permission to run ChkDsk, then make sure you are running ChkDsk as administrator.
Microsoft states the error "cannot open volume for direct access" error may come from either having a virus checker active (they suggest temporarily disabling the virus checker), or your computer is not up to date. If you don't have Microsoft updates enabled on your computer, you may need to run Update prior to using ChkDsk.
Unfortunately I cannot provide every error scenario that may occur when using ChkDsk - otherwise, the video would be an hour long. If you receive an error, then something is bad with your SD card. You can further research the error on your own.

this is a tutorial on how to fix a
corrupted SD card SD cards me corrupted
in many ways one of the most common ways
if you remove your SD card from your
camera when the power is still on or if
your battery dies while the camera is
still writing to the card or even if you
remove the card incorrectly from your
computer without properly this morning
that are all reasons why you could have
corruption and one of the easiest ways
to try to fix the corruption is by using
the program called check disk now this
is only available in Windows machines so
we'll continue on with this tutorial on
how to use check disk
the first
yep is to bring up one of those Explorer
as you can see here the thing we have to
find out here is what the drive letter
of the SD card is because check disk
requires that information as you can see
here and the right side there is a dry
called cannon DC that is the SD card and
it is drive letter e :
you have to be very sure that you are
using the correct right number one
you're using the check disk application
the first time to do when using check
disk is to open the command line then
type in chkdsk space your drive letter
space / f
now this instance the drive letter is
showing is e :
because that's what we found in the
previous step
however the driver may be different on
your machine
so make sure that you match the driver
here with the step that we did
previously
when you press the Enter key after
entering the check disk command of the
check disk will run through the SD card
and find any corruption that may have
occurred and will also fix that
corruption
if it did not find any problems and
you're all set
there's nothing else to do however you
may also want to consider formatting the
SD card and sometimes that will bring
the car back to life
if we are still having some problems
in this step
when you do an in-depth or a deep format
when you do this type of format you will
lose data on your card and you will not
be able to recover that data by using
any of the file recovery programs such
as recover and others so save your files
if you have to or if you can to another
area before continuing
then select the SD card
right click on that card and select
format which will bring up this dialog
box
now the settings in this dialog box
aren't all that important
other than the file system should show
fat which stands for a file allocation
table that is the format that the camera
can understand because will be actually
having a format a second time in the
camera after this step
be sure to uncheck the box click format
by doing so it will do a long format and
when you're done with that you just
simply click on the start button and the
format will begin this format will take
quite some time to do though so it may
take 10 to 20 minutes even in some cases
at this point the format will begin and
you'll get a little progress box at the
bottom showing where you're at when
you're done with this you should up then
take the SD card putting your camera and
formatted again
this will ensure that everything is
going to be working properly
to summarize always remove your memory
card correctly and you probably will
never have a problem with the corruption
but if you do first run check disk then
format the long way
if needed and finally format again in
your camera
you should go a long way in keeping your
cards running properly
