Hey, guys. This is Harsh and in this video,
we are going to learn how we can fix broken
links in WordPress. Basically, broken links
are those that give the 404 Error and mostly
if you're blogging for a long time, a lot
of links which you have added in the past
from other websites might have gone down or
the website itself has been taken down, or
the pages don't exist anymore. Those links
are not useful for search engines and they
are seen as a negative point for the blog
so it's always a good idea that every month
you should work once and fix all the broken
links on your blog. When it comes to WordPress,
there are so many plugins which can actually
help us to fix all these broken links in a
few clicks. I'm going to talk about Broken
Link Checker Plugin, that's a plugin I'm using
on one of my blogs. Once you install it this
is the Settings page of the plugin, settings
and link checker, and here, you can configure
the settings. I just generally use two, three
settings. Whenever I install this plugin,
I go here, "Forced recheck," this is the option
I use so that it check all my links and find
all the broken links and redirected links.
If you're using [inaudible] server or a shared
hosting server and your blog is getting good
[inaudible]. It's always a good idea that
you use Server load limit so that your website
does not go down. You can also configure where
you want to check your links in. Once you've
done all these settings, you can go to Tools,
then Broken Links, this is what this page
looks like. All these pages, all these links,
are my 404 links. I have to options here,
either I find working links and I click on
"Edit URL," and replace it directly from here.
If I know I can't find the link, I'll simply
select the link and I will click on "Unlink."
Basically, all those 404 links will be unlinked
and my blog will have lesser number of broken
links. Apart from that, another good feature
of this plugin is called Redirects. What it
does is if you have links added in the past
and now are being redirected to another webpage,
you can see all of those from here. You can
go here, select the link, and click on "Fix
Redirects." What it does is it will start
linking to the actual page instead of the
redirected page. This is a good thing, you
should keep doing this. One suggestion, don't
keep this plugin running all the time because
this plugin slows down your blog. But once
in a while, it's highly recommended that you
use Broken Link Checker Plugin. If you still
have any questions, feel free to ask me via
comment. Thank you for watching, this is Harsh.
