welcome to day one in window cited by
fluence i'm sonia guilt and in the next
few minutes i'll explain how to form the
key expressions you'll need on your
first day in a spanish-speaking country
I'll cover the basics on how to
communicate with a cab driver
what to say to a waiter at a restaurant
or cafe to ask questions when pointing
at a map and a few other essential
situations faced by travelers after this
video you'll have interactive exercises
to practice with
all right enough babbling ready to get
going
here are the two words that I learned
first when learning a new language a
stick and a see this and that
if you're going to know very little voc
up these words are ideal
I need this I want that how much is this
so repeat after me SD SD
open your mouth
great not stick s day
ok so how do you say this
SD ready to go if you need to make it
stay in your brain and that AC again
repeat
for me and exaggerated AC now you can
say things like is the stuffing
can you guess
means this coffee tastes a cafe and how
would you say that
coffee
AC Buffy keep watching this because
slowly i'll show you how to form your
own sentences after years of work
creating language learning programs at
fluence we know that you will learn very
fast
if our explanations have common sense if
we use relevant material that you
actually need and if we stay away from
those immersion methods that treat you
like a child and where you end up
matching words and images over and over
again
instead we'll show you how Spanish works
and off to Argentina we go
once you get there you'll probably hop
in a cab to go to the hotel and then get
something to it
let's work on the basics at the
restaurant first then we'll work on the
cap
it's all connected black door dish or
plate glad to open your mouth and note
the sounds
how do you say this glad to
and how would you say this dish
come on you know this este vato that
dish AC lat oh good
now you know how to point at things and
say I want this dish or that dish
what we're missing is the I want easy
I is jewel not yo the why
sounds like a J as in job and the oh
just call Joe come on with me do so how
do you
the eye Joe and I want is Jo here
Joe Chiodo
let's learn
a sound here when you have q u plus I
the queue you sound like a key yet
and this
r is a bit
pickle it almost sounds more like a d
than our say like Addie
but place your tongue further back on
your palate
jo ta do I want or the negative form
Joe know kiddo I don't want
let's
phrase together Joe Chiodo este plateau
I want this dish
Joe
no quiero este plateau
good now let's say I want that dish
go for it Joe quiero SI plateau
Bravo see that wasn't that bad
let's throw in a please and well
45 water please
lots of
I know a little trick with the arse is
to exaggerate the sound before it
45 water
Joe Chiodo is a plateau porfavor now how
about I want the menu please
easy may know is menu
the menu would be El Nino
yo quiero el me
forward
let's come up with some more phrases
pho
SI plateau poor flower
or you could just say yo quiero que
a 45
awesome now to finish up the restaurant
basics
let's ask for water and the bill ready
the bill is locked Quinn de la quinta
think of the word count the bill counts
how much money you owe right
la quinta so go for it
I want the bill please Joe
quiero la cuenta por forward or perhaps
you just say la cuenta por forward
now you may be asking yourself why do we
say in middle and la quinta well in
Spanish mounds have a gender some nouns
are feminine and some are masculine in
is the masculine a little
la is the feminine
la quinta usually words that end in a
are feminine and those that end in an o
are masculine but unfortunately that is
not always the case
this is Spanish we're talking about and
nothing is black and white
so really practice is what gets you to
naturally use the feminine and masculine
this is stuff for us english speakers
because it's just not natural
thus far we know these masculine words
and feminine
we have
up la quinta and let's add one more one
that doesn't follow the rule
agua water
even though
and in a it's a masculine word so the
water is in Iowa
I what
water please
agua de la cuenta
follower water and the bill please
e is and step
eat ASAP
good
I think with these you can survive at a
restaurant at least you can point to
things that you like and explain
I want this or that better than pure
hand signals right
the other thing that you might need in a
restaurant is in biannual so you could
just say aww poor flower
someone is bound to show you the way
ok let's jump over to the second topic
the cab you land grab your suitcase and
hop in a cab
I want to go to the hotel window situs
you already know I want Joe Chiodo Joe
Chiodo ear is I want to go
I love
in Buenos itís to the hotel window
scientist
let me break down that last part for you
here is to go
the infinitive to go it's the neutral
form of the verb
say it with me come on an exaggerated
each other
Joe Chiodo ear I want to go now say the
hotel window situs you can do this one
al
any way no situs the H is silent in
Spanish good too
in spanish is ah - as in a direction to
the hotel
meaning in the direction of the hotel to
the restaurant
same thing very different from to go
to go works as one word
so direction to is ah
to the hotel Buenos itís ah in OT
window situs the thing is that when you
have aa plus in one after the other
they become I
so I el hotel when a scientist would be
I
no scientist
I want to go to the hotel window
scientist
Joe Chiodo you a little window Silas to
the restaurant in the restaurant which
becomes I'll go
don't and why not
let's learn
other word that uses the structure
l I know where you can get the meaning
right
the airport in
I don't boil so to the airport would be
I aeropuerto
so we have these three wonderful and
check
out look at when
I already say Joe Chiodo you
I still tell Joe Chiodo you up a still
tail
pretty cool huh Joe Chiodo you
I still I want to go to this hotel

Description:
Most of us don’t remember what it was like to learn the language that we speak. We were babies. But we do remember trying to teach our baby or someone else’s to say “daddy”, “mama” or some other word. It takes a baby a lot of time, effort, persistence to learn those words. But with those words and a few others … communication starts. Communication opens up a whole new world. As we communicate we start to understand other people, places, and cultures. Communication is magic. Magic because it ...
