How To Make a Wireless Connection Without a Router (Ad Hoc) With the HP Photosmart

If your traveling with a laptop and a printer your will have to make a wireless ad hoc connection in order to print, since you will be using WiFi or other mobile internet and not your router. This tutorial shows you how to do that with the HP Photosmart printer and a Window 7 laptop.

this type of connection is called an
ad-hoc connection because it doesn't use
an internetwork it can only be used for
devices that are close to each other so
the first thing to do before inserting
the printer installation CD rom is to
turn on the printer and turn on the blue
radio symbol
after you do that you should check your
available networks and see if you now
have an available connection to the HP
set up now
if you don't disable the blue radio
symbol and enable it again once you see
the HP setup connect to it then insert
the CD rom and install the necessary
software that HP photosmart needs to
operate now when you get to the screen
you'll have to choose how your printer
will be wirelessly connected
you should see this HP set up network
notice how it is listed as an ad-hoc
network if you don't see the HP setup
option connect to your regular networks
finished installation and then turn on
and turn off the blue radio button to
make sure your computer sees the ad hoc
network and then make sure to connect to
it then click on the cd-rom again to get
to this menu click on the
reconfiguration option and continue to
configure settings to the ad hoc network
before you close all the applications
make sure to check this new network
works by unplugging the USB if you
haven't already and printing something
an important thing to notice here is
that whenever you want to print
something from your computer you have to
be connected to the HP set of network
for instance you can be connected to the
Internet and the printer once so you
have to first connect to the internet
then find the page you want to print
and then go back to your network
settings and switch to HP setup
and now you can front

order to have the printer always
connected to the computer but I don't
