Economic Transformation Programme (ETP)

The Economic Transformation Programme is a focused, inclusive and sustainable initiative that will transform Malaysia into a high-income nation by 2020. It is driven by 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs): Oil, Gas and Energy; Palm Oil; Financial Services; Wholesale and Retail; Tourism; Business Services; Electrical and Electronics; Communications Content and Infrastructure; Healthcare; Education; Agriculture; and Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley.

131 entry point projects (EPPs) have been clearly outlined within these sectors to grow our economy. These Entry Point Projects (EPPs) within the National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) will lead Malaysia towards achieving a high-income nation status with a per capita income of RM48,000 (USD15,000) and create more than 3.3 million new jobs by 2020, throughout the country.

the EP is a program to transform the
Malaysian economy by 2022 become a
high-income economy with inclusiveness
and sustainability that is what we call
the new e common model in lemon language
this means let us be rich all of us for
a long long time
some of the top line key performance
indicators to show that we are heading
in the right direction we need to grow
the economy at six percent per annum to
reach minimum income or 15,000 US
dollars per capita we need to add an
additional 3.3 million jobs with a
higher income jobs in terms of
investment we need to have something
like 444 billion US dollars of
investments and because the
transformation is private sector-led we
expect ninety-two percent of that
investment to come out from the private
sector let me quickly touch base on some
of the approaches in the month
methodologies that are be used for the
transformation program our definition of
transformation is encapsulated in three
words big results fast the approach that
is taken to achieve big results fast is
that we take transformational action and
consequently we become transformed in
the process
in other words the big reasons fast
actions lead to confirmation we focus on
the doing to transform the being big
results fast methodologies that we
employ in this EP our laboratories open
days or town hall sessions and we have
published promises by the ETP roadmap we
also promised to publish our annual
report on the performance of the ETB we
get down to continuously communicate to
the public and engage stakeholders on
what is being implemented along the way
and most of all
in the process of implementation there
is tremendous leadership intervention to
ensure that we on track we achieved the
results
let me now quickly cover on what is
needed for us to succeed and I do
believe high-income economies there are
two prerequisite if you like two keys
access fact this number one we must
focus on specific national key economic
areas we've identified 12 of them when
we scan through all countries that have
achieve high income status we realized
that the successful countries are those
that provide such a focus and it would
pretend and one to do everything in
malaysia we will never be able to
achieve that
so hands we have identified the 12
national key common areas that will help
us achieve such status
secondly in our scanning through the
successful countries that teams such as
status we recognize there is a need for
competitiveness so we've created or
other we would like to create we work
towards creating the conditions for
competitiveness by our strategic reform
initiatives
altogether there are fifty one of them
all of these that I've just described by
way of that 12 national key economic
areas and 51 strategic reform
initiatives all of these are fully
explained in our detail ETP roadmap for
the hard-working and every treatise we
have a 600 page document that is meant
for them for those folks that are
relatively lazy we have a shorter
version that's only 50 kids executive
summary for the very lazy fox we have a
six-minute video let me just quickly
talk about what we have achieved so far
you know since their prime minister
loans the ETP document in October 2010
in six months we receive tremendous
results the first result 72 projects
have already begun and up constituted
something
like hundred and six billion ringgit of
confirmed investment those 72 projects
contribute to a GN I or gross national
income 454 billion ringgit those 72
projects are creating 290,000 806 five
jobs or together so let's start now in
six months its tremendous progress if
you like on this journey to an aircraft
this is equivalent to a vertical
take-off I believe that with the
momentum that we've started here and as
long as we have the stamina to keep
doing this i have no doubt in my mind
that by the year twenty twenty we will
achieve our vision
