odac is a library of data access
components that provide both native and
direct connectivity to oracle from
delphi c plus builder and lazarus i'm
going to show you how to create a very
basic delphi application that connects
to oracle database directly without the
oracle client
my application will be using a bare
minimum of components a button a grid an
aura session or a query and or a data
source
to set up the connection parameters
check the direct box in the aura session
and specify the server address and
database credentials

click connect and you should see a green
circle meaning a successful connection
open or a query and enter your sql
statement

now specify the data source for the grid
and the data set for the query
double-click the button component and
add the method that will send the query
to the server and populate the data set
with the result set
compile the application and retrieve the
data from the server
the resulting application is lightweight
and doesn't require any external
libraries for communicating with the
server
