iPad or on your iphone or your ipod
touch and you want to print it
well with iOS 4.2 you can airprint to
any printer that is Wireless or is
connected directly to your network but
what about those of us who have USB
printers that are connected to our mac
and we don't have a wireless printer or
a network printer
well there's an application called print
topia that allows you to print to any
printer
whether it's wireless network or
connected to your computer via USB
it also allows you to print a dropbox
and allows you to print directly to
folders on your Mac it really is the
ultimate printing and file transfer
application
so let's first take a look at the print
topia interface and then i'll show you
how you can actually print to a USB
printer or to your computer or Dropbox
directly from print o piya
let's take a look at that first
so after you've downloaded and installed
. o piya
he'll simply come up . system
preferences and select print Oh Pia and
turn print opia on
it's really that simple now remember in
iOS 4.2 or greater
you could airprint to any wireless
printer or any printer that was
connected to your network with pronto .
you can do that and you can also print
to any printer that is connected to your
Mac the USB you can share documents from
any iOS device to your desktop and you
can share documents from any iOS device
to drop box on your Mac but the biggest
feature on toby is the ability to now
print from any iOS device directly to
any printer including your USB printers
so as you can see print OB is really
easy to set up and install just turn it
on
select the printers that you want to
print - and you're ready to go
let's take a look at pronto be and how
you can print from your iOS device to
your USB printer or to a folder on your
Mac or to drop box
so let's say I use the ipad and we'll do
a print example using the ipad so I've
got this document in pages open on my
iPad and I want to print but I've only
got a USB printer
now normally an iOS 4.2 or greater if
you had a wireless printer or a printer
connected to your network you can print
those printers
but now you must be printed and i'll
show you that I've got petopia off right
now I've got it turned off on my mac so
i'll go here to the tools button and
I'll go to share and print and i'm going
to print and i'll select my HP USB
printer and it is looking for printers
and it says no air printers found that's
because my HP printer is USB connected
directly to my mac so I can't print but
now if i turn print opia on my Mac I'll
turn it on all the sudden I now have
three new options for printing
I can either save to the desktop i can
send the document directly to drop box
on my mac or i can now print it to the
HP laserjet so i'm gonna go ahead and
select that i'm going to go ahead and
click print
and you can hear in the background the
printer printing
yeah
and the document has printed to my USB
printer
I'm gonna go back here to share and
print go to print
i'm going to select save to the desktop
and then it says print but it's saving
to the desktop so i'll click print and
it is now saved the document to the
desktop it on my mac and it will
actually open the doctor for you and go
back here
I can share print print I can go to send
a drop box says print but again I'm
really sending it to dropbox click print
and it is now set that document to my
dropbox folder on my mac and i can now
access that document anywhere
I might have access to dropbox so again
those options are now available on your
iPad or on your iphone or ipod touch
using print topia that's been my review
